Master 05
When two people's eyes suddenly meet, the person who made the first move will usually avoid the gaze reflexively. But He Mian is not like that. If he is looking at you, he will not dodge. He is probably not nearsighted, his eyes are very bright and his gaze looks particularly clear.
Qianjin called out a few times in the direction of He Mian, and then ran back to her exclusive office without even picking up her little mouse toy.
Song Jing bent down to pick up the little mouse from the ground, looking helplessly at the ragdoll cat's back. She glanced at He Mian from the side, then quickly looked away and stood up to follow the cat to its office.
The boss turned a blind eye and ignored them playing with the cat at work. Mr. He wouldn't have any objections to her, right? Song Jing thought so and played with her daughter with the cat toy for a while before returning to her workstation to continue.
He Mian stood at the end of the corridor and looked at her silently. He knew that Song Jing had no need or mood to pay attention to him at the moment.
The daughter's office was completely transparent, and he could see the scene inside the office from where he was standing. He Mian pursed his lips, feeling a little unhappy, with a hint of resentment in his eyes.
She would feed cat food to other cats and play with them.
He Mian sighed slightly and watched her quietly while working. He didn't leave until Song Jing had played with her daughter enough and left Maomao's office.
Song Jing washed her hands, wiped the water stains on her hands with a tissue, and slowly sat back in her chair.
Jiang Qixin pulled Song Jing's sleeve and said, "Sister Jingjing, Mr. He seemed to have glanced at your desk several times just now. I don't know if he has something to ask you, but he didn't ask me and I didn't ask him either."
Song Jing threw the balled-up tissue into the trash can at her feet and turned to look at Jiang Qixin. "Is there something about work? Then he should find another time to contact me."
"I just realized that Mr. He seems very young. I thought it would be an older man who would take over the position of director."
Song Jing pursed her lips and said, "Well, he is quite young, probably only two years older than me. His official position is much higher than mine. It's really hard to compare him with others."
"Hey, Sister Jingjing, you've been promoted to senior engineer. You'll be able to move up to chief engineer soon. You're amazing."
Song Jing lowered her head and smiled sheepishly. She wasn't outgoing, nor did she like to get involved in other matters. She'd probably always pursued a career in technology. She wiped her glasses and continued to stare at the data on her computer.
"By the way, have you noticed Mr. He's eyes? The color is so unique. I wonder if he's mixed-race or a genetic mutation."
"Genes." Song Jing narrowed her eyes and stared at the data chart on the computer, and agreed casually.
"How do you know?" Jiang Qixin was a little surprised.
"Uh, Mr. He told me..." Song Jing raised her head and finally moved her eyes away from the screen. She touched the tip of her nose and realized that what she had just said was a little too smooth.
Song Jing felt that it was necessary for her not to let others know that she and He Mian were neighbors, even if they were indeed neighbors by chance.
Fortunately, Jiang Qixin was a generous person. Thinking that Song Jing and Director He worked together yesterday and had some interactions, and probably chatted unintentionally, she didn't ask any more questions and ran to see how her experimental mice were doing with the form she had just printed.
With midsummer drawing ever closer, the weather in City A was already incredibly hot. Even with the curtains drawn in the evening, the sun outside could still be felt. Fortunately, it was cool enough inside, and Song Jing toiled through another day as usual. Work wasn't exactly busy, but it wasn't exactly relaxing either. She stretched out in a chair, taking off her glasses to glance at the time. She still had an hour until she'd be done.
It's time to start thinking about what to eat tonight, but Song Jing only spent five seconds wondering whether to buy groceries and cook or order takeout. Then she decisively opened the takeout app and spent another five minutes ordering takeout.
Thanks to Song Jing's careful planning, her takeaway arrived shortly after she drove home. Song Jing happily carried the fruit pizza she ordered today and waited idly in front of the elevator on the first floor.
His fingertip accurately touched the number sixteen, and the elevator went down to the underground floor first. As the elevator door opened, three or four more people walked in.
Song Jing lowered her head, concentrating on the screen on her phone, but she caught a glimpse of a pair of legs on the ground that looked familiar. She looked up and realized it was He Mian. She frowned, wondering why the more she didn't want to see him, the easier it was to see him.
She huddled in the corner of the elevator, keeping her head down and pretending to be busy.
As the elevator door slowly closed again, He Mian, who was standing in front of her, took a small step back and whispered, "What a coincidence, are you having takeout again tonight?" He looked down at the takeout bag in Song Jing's left hand.
She raised her head and glanced at He Mian, then hummed and laughed dryly a few times, "It's troublesome to cook alone, so it's more convenient to eat takeout."
Song Jing had bought the first generation of her company's fried rice robot, but when the robot broke down she was too lazy to provide after-sales service.
It is really inconvenient to buy groceries alone, so it is not a problem to just order takeout for dinner.
Her left hand subconsciously clenched the handle of the takeout bag, and her eyes quickly fell on the bag in He Mian's hand. The bag was printed with the logo of a nearby supermarket. Not surprisingly, the bag should contain the vegetables bought by He Mian. "Do you cook for yourself?"
He Mian nodded, "Well, I'm used to cooking for myself."
"Oh, then you are quite healthy." Song Jing continued to reply. Just as she finished speaking, the elevator had already reached the sixteenth floor. He Mian and she walked out of the elevator one after the other.
Just as He Mian was thinking about how to continue talking to Song Jing, she opened and closed the door silently, leaving him with a neither loud nor soft sound of the door closing.
He glanced at the door of Song Jing's house with some resentment and sighed. He had bought the house opposite her specifically to communicate with her more.
But now it seems that he has not achieved his goal.
Song Jing didn't know what He Mian was thinking at the moment. She just wanted to sit quietly at the table, eat pizza, and then start her happy weekend life. She turned on her phone and read the novel she was reading recently while eating.
The novel was neither long nor short, but Song Jing was the kind of person who liked to read a story in one breath. By the time she had finished dinner, showered, washed her clothes, and was ready to go to bed, she hadn't finished reading it yet. Thinking that tomorrow was a weekend, she rarely went to bed early tonight.
After she finished reading the last chapter, she finally put down her phone reluctantly, crawled out of the warm bed, ran to the bathroom, and walked to the living room to pour herself a glass of warm water.
The lights from street lamps and shops shone into the house. Even though the lights in the living room were not on, Song Jing could see the scene in front of her clearly. She walked straight to the table and poured a glass of water.
The cold mug touched her warm lips. It hadn't rained for a while and the weather was very dry. It was so dry that she felt a little thirsty after sleeping in bed for a while.
Song Jing tilted her head back and drank most of the water. Suddenly, a dark shadow flashed across her sight. "What is that?"
She placed the cup on the table with a crisp sound and then turned on the main light in the center of the living room. Song Jing was a materialist who respected science. She certainly didn't doubt that the black shadow was a ghost, but she didn't expect it to be a cat.
A Maine Coon cat sat outside the balcony's glass door, looking at her with a look of grievance. Song Jing rubbed her eyes, her brow twitching, and pinched her arm to make sure this scene wasn't a dream. But why did this cat look so much like the cat she had dreamed of the night before?
Song Jing's balcony was only fenced off, not fully enclosed. Having a cat on the balcony was dangerous. Without giving it much thought, Song Jing hurriedly opened the balcony door and let the cat in.
"Come in first?" Song Jing tried to communicate with it. The Maine Coon cat walked in as if it understood what people were saying, and then sat down obediently on the carpet in front of the sofa.
Song Jing looked down at the cat. Based on its size, she guessed that it was an adult. If the cat stood up, it would probably be half her height.
Although she hadn't kept a cat for a long time, the basic knowledge still remained in her mind. Based on her simple judgment, this was a Maine Coon cat with a very pure bloodline.
Maine Coon cats are expensive and their fur looks good. They are definitely not stray cats and are most likely domestic cats in the community.
"Whose cat are you, and why are you here?" Song Jing squatted down and looked at the Maine Coon for a few times, but she didn't see any markings or pet tags on it. The cat still sat there obediently.
Although some Maine Coon cats are gentle and obedient, Song Jing has never had any interaction with this cat. She cannot be sure that it has a mild temper and will not bite or scratch people. In order to ensure her own safety, she stood up and kept a certain distance from the cat.
Because she had been looking at the text on the screen for too long and was not used to the change from a dark environment to a bright environment, Song Jing's eyes felt a little sore and swollen. She closed her eyes to relieve the pain for a while. When she opened her eyes again, the Maine Coon moved closer to her, as if it was determined to stick to her feet.
Song Jing scratched her messy hair awkwardly and took out her cell phone. "Don't move."
She spoke human language to the cat.
Afterwards, she took a few photos of the Maine Coon cat. Song Jing opened the owners' group, which she hadn't opened for hundreds of years, and sent all the photos.
【Whose Maine Coon cat is lost? Come and claim it. 】
"I'll help you find your owner." Song Jing held the phone and showed the screen to the Maine Coon cat.
"But everyone is probably asleep at this time, and I want to sleep too. How about you just sleep in the living room?" This was said to the cat, but actually Song Jing was talking to herself.
The Maine Coon meowed at her a few times and rubbed his head against the leg of her pajama pants.
Its fur color was very similar to that of the rabbit, both gray and white. Song Jing was suddenly lost in thought as she looked at it, and then she bent over and touched the Maine Coon's head.
The cat didn't resist and let her touch it obediently.
"Very good." She murmured and yawned again.
The Maine Coon shook its head and ran out of her hand, sitting on the carpet and lying down next to the sofa.
"Are you sleepy?" It was quite cool outside the living room, and the carpet in her house was soft, so it shouldn't be uncomfortable to sleep on.
Song Jing glanced at the owner group. No one replied to her and no one added her. "Your owner may be asleep. You can just make do with it for one night."
This cat looks bright and beautiful. I guess its owner treats it very well. It is indeed a bit awkward for it to sleep on the carpet.
But the Maine Coon didn't react at all, it just lay there obediently.
Song Jing walked around to the balcony door to make sure it was closed tightly, as well as the doors to the living room and kitchen. Having solved the problem of the Maine Coon cat not being able to wander around from the sixteenth floor again, and after making sure the cat was alright, she returned to her room to sleep.
She slept until almost noon, but when she woke up, the Maine Coon cat was gone.
