Master 16

Master 16

Song Jing blinked. She thought of many possibilities but she never thought that He Mian would have such a connection with this animal hospital.

He certainly didn't look like the type to be around kittens and puppies, so she hadn't thought about it in that direction before.

It turned out that He Mian had done so many things in places she didn't know about.

Song Jing always thought that the two had known each other for a while, and she had a certain understanding of He Mian. It was not until today that she realized that she actually only knew He Mian's educational background, hometown and work situation. Apart from that, he seemed to have many secrets that she didn't know.

From the very beginning, Song Jing always inexplicably felt that He Mian was a man with many secrets. At first, it was probably because of his unusual eyes that made her feel a sense of unknown.

Song Jing felt that she seemed to understand He Mian even less now.

Seeing Song Jing's surprised look, He Mian coughed uncomfortably twice, "Well, actually my family has done this kind of investment before, so I'm used to it."

Song Jing lowered her head and was silent for a moment. "So that's how it is." She sighed heavily, "This misunderstanding of mine is really quite big."

"Now you finally believe me, right?" He Mian bent his waist slightly and looked at her. He found it hard to forget the look on her face when he saw her at home in the morning. The fear and resistance in her eyes at that time were real. She even took out the things she used for self-defense.

If he had noticed earlier that something was wrong with Song Jing these days, he could have explained it to her earlier and she wouldn't have to worry for so many days.

It is indeed a terrifying thing that the neighbor is a violent pervert.

"Well, I believe it." Song Jing forced a somewhat embarrassed smile.

Before she could say sorry again, He Mian interrupted her, "It's still early. Did I delay your weekend plans today?"

Song Jing glanced at the clock hanging in the ward and said, "Fortunately, I went out alone today. I just wanted to go hiking." She had been rummaging through the closet for a long time today for her sportswear, which she bought specifically for exercise. However, she had worn it less than the number of times on one hand.

"I don't have anything to do today. Do you mind if I go hiking with you?"

Since He Mian had asked her this, Song Jing had no reason to refuse. However, she hesitated when she saw He Mian's formal attire of shirt, suit and trousers. "But wouldn't it be uncomfortable for you to wear this when climbing a mountain?"

He Mian followed her gaze and glanced down at his outfit today. Actually, he didn't like wearing formal clothes that much. It was most reasonable for a company like theirs to wear casual clothes.

It's just that Song Jing once said that people with good figures are more suitable for wearing formal clothes, and formal clothes will make them look better. Everything is just because Song Jing likes it, so he wears it this way.

"It should be fine. You're going to climb Yunhe Mountain, right? It's quite flat. It's just a few more steps."

The terrain of City A is relatively flat, and the mountains that have been developed into tourist attractions are just small hills compared to the famous mountains in China.

"Well, we can always take the cable car if we get tired anyway." She smiled slyly.

Song Jing has been nervous these days, and the excessive stress makes her feel particularly uncomfortable.

Now that I have relaxed all of a sudden, my body seems to have not yet adapted to the situation. The most important purpose of planning to climb the mountain on Saturday is just to avoid He Mian who was misunderstood by me.

So she actually doesn't have enough energy to support herself to climb to the top of the mountain.

It was still early when the two of them came out of the hospital. Song Jing had wanted to go hiking early, so she had gotten up early. Normally, she would still be asleep in bed at this time.

Yunhe Mountain is not far from their home and the animal hospital. It only takes a few minutes to drive to the foot of the mountain. The two found a parking space and entered the gate of the scenic area.

Although it was still early, the sun was already out. Today's weather wasn't the hottest of the summer, but Song Jing still felt a burning sensation from the ultraviolet rays when the sun shone down.

She squinted her eyes and dared not look at the sun in the sky. "He Mian, how about we take the cable car up the mountain, and then walk back when we go down the mountain?" Song Jing said while wiping the sweat from her forehead.

He Mian turned his head to glance at Song Jing's expression. Seeing a layer of grayish-green in her eyes, he could guess that Song Jing hadn't had a good rest recently. He nodded and said, "Okay, walking down the mountain is exercise anyway."

-

"It's so high." Song Jing glanced at the cable car window. There was lush greenery below, so she moved away from the window.

Song Jing has a slight fear of heights, especially the height of the cable car is a bit too high for her.

In fact, she felt that most people have acrophobia. Song Jing touched the goosebumps on her arms caused by physical fear and trembled.

He Mian, however, looked like nothing had happened. Seeing Song Jing looking at him, He Mian's eyes became even more dazzling under the sunlight.

Song Jing thought of the little rabbit's golden eyes again. The little rabbit's eyes were also very beautiful, and the little cat's eyes were also very beautiful.

She leaned back in her chair and said to He Mian, "I don't think I've mentioned this to you before."

"What's the matter?" He Mian responded to her quickly.

"Actually, I had a kitten before, a gray and white Maine Coon. I picked it up when I was in college. He Mian, we've always been on the same campus, right? There are quite a lot of stray cats in our school."

Song Jing paused. "I don't know if you've noticed, but there's a garbage dump near the south gate of the school. Every time I pass by, I see stray kittens from the school rummaging through the trash cans."

He Mian looked at Song Jing nervously. This was the first time she had mentioned his past in front of her. He agreed and continued, "Yes, we have always been in the same campus. There are many little orange cats and little white cats in the school."

"I also picked up my cat from the garbage dump at the south gate of the school." Song Jing suddenly lowered her voice, "But it's not an orange cat or a white cat, it's a Maine Coon."

He Mian feigned surprise and replied, "Maine Coon?"

In fact, it is rare to see Maine Coon kittens among stray cats. Most of them are orange cats, tabby cats, white cats, calico cats and the like.

"When I saw it, it had a lot of injuries on its body." She choked and took a deep breath before continuing, "The wounds didn't look like they were caused by fighting with other kittens. They were probably caused by humans."

"So I might be more sensitive to these things." Song Jing sniffed and turned her head to look out the cable car window. "It's a pity that he got lost in the end. I still failed to protect my kitten."

At first, Song Jing was very anxious when the cat got lost, but no family that has ever raised a cat has never encountered the problem of a cat running away. Song Jing had to calm down and look for Xiaomian, but she still couldn't find it after searching for a long time.

She never gave up but it ended up with a bad result.

"He's so attached to me, how could he get lost?" Song Jing raised the back of her hand to wipe the corners of her eyes.

In Song Jing's impression, Xiaomian is very clingy and would roll around and cry at Song Jing's feet before going to work every day.

Song Jing had heard a saying before that kittens would think that their owners went out to work or hunting, and they were afraid that their owners would encounter danger and "die" outside while hunting, so they were unwilling to let their owners go out.

So every time she went out to work, she had to reason with him and tell him that she was going there to earn money for cat food.

However, Xiaomian was just acting coquettishly at her feet and didn't really stop her from going out. Song Jing touched his belly and coaxed him a little to make him feel less sad before going out to work.

But she knew that after she left the house, Xiaomian would sit at the door waiting for her to get off work, sometimes for a long time.

Sometimes Song Jing wonders if Xiaomian has separation anxiety, but he is really obedient and sensible.

He Mian wanted to hug her and tell Song Jing that her little rabbit was doing well. He still had his own work and his own mission. It was dangerous for a person with an ID to disappear from this world for half a year. He Mian had no choice but to leave.

But now he still didn't have a chance to hug her openly. He Mian handed her the paper and said, "He must be fine. His master is so kind, so his luck won't be too bad."

"Thank you." She smiled with the corners of her mouth. "I hope so. It would be great if we could find a richer family to live with." She turned her head away, not wanting He Mian to see her crying.

The cable car ride was not very long, and they soon reached the top of the mountain, where there were many elderly people exercising.

When Song Jing got off the cable car, she had already wiped the tears from her face, and the tip of her nose was still a little red.

"I feel that these old people are in much better health than me." She muttered softly, looking at the elderly people who were practicing Tai Chi.

"Then we should exercise more." He Mian patted her shoulder lightly. If he couldn't hug her, he would just have to bear with it for now.

"Let's go down the mountain!" Song Jing swung his arms back and forth and walked towards the road down the mountain.

Although Yunhe Mountain is relatively gentle, there is still a certain slope on the downhill side. The two people went down the mountain faster than usual walking.

"By the way, Song Jing, do you remember the night you happened to see me when you were taking out the trash?" He Mian recalled that there seemed to be some unclear points between him and Song Jing. "Did you..."

"I smelled blood that night." Song Jing interrupted He Mian.

She still remembered the date on the photo in He Mian's study, which happened to be the date of that night. "Did you get the blood of those two kittens on you that day?"

"Well, yes. I remember that the expression you gave me that day was also strange, as if you saw something unusual. Suddenly I remembered this and I should have explained it to you more clearly." He spoke in a lower voice, sounding a little innocent and aggrieved.

"How could you tell I felt something unusual back then?" Song Jing looked at He Mian, who looked like he was being wronged. She touched the tip of her nose and said, "Well, I just thought it was a little strange for you to go out at night, and you were wearing all black. It's rare to see you dressed like that."

He Mian smiled and said, "Your expression is always written on your face. I think it's hard for you not to know it."

Song Jing cupped her hands to cover her face, "Is it that obvious?"

He nodded. "If you find anything else strange about me, you can ask me. Don't keep it in your heart." He Mian stopped and looked at her. "You're making you feel bad."

"Well...it seems to be gone," Song Jing shook her head.

"Oh. By the way, I haven't seen your friend's Maine Coon cat for a long time. Its fur color is very similar to my kitten. But I haven't seen your friend's cat recently."

He Mian was stunned for a moment. He didn't expect her to ask such a fatal question. "I've been too busy with work recently, and it's not convenient for me to keep a cat, so I haven't brought it home."

Apart from what happened between him and Xiao Mian, He Mian thought he couldn't lie to her about anything else.

It was almost lunch time when they got down the mountain, so they went to a nearby restaurant to eat and then went home together.

Although she didn't go up the mountain in the morning, she still walked a long way down the mountain. When Song Jing got home and took off her shoes, her ankles were sore.

After a quick wash, she stretched out her arms and legs on the bed. She had been tense for the past few days, and after the truth came to light, she suddenly relaxed. However, her body did not feel relaxed but felt more tired.

He slept until He Mian finished cooking dinner.

When Song Jing sat down at the dining table, He Mian was still wearing a white shirt and an apron, and looked even more dedicated than the cooking robot she had bought before.

Halfway through his meal, He Mian received another call on his phone.

Song Jing was used to his busy work. When she thought about the fact that he was busy as a department director in the company while working with his friends to rescue stray animals, she felt that time passed very tightly.

He Mian still didn't avoid her and answered the phone, saying a few words quickly and then ended it.

"What's the matter? Is there something urgent?" Song Jing stopped eating with chopsticks, looked at He Mian's frown, and thought that he might have something urgent to deal with.

He Mian nodded. "It's not the company's work, it's the rescue team's work. It happened suddenly, so I might have to go out first."

Although Song Jing occasionally fed cats and dogs, she had never participated in this kind of rescue activities. She held her chopsticks excitedly and asked, "Is there anything I can help with?"

This time, He Mian was investigating the illegal cat-car incident. Although it was now the final stage of the investigation, it was not as simple as rescuing one or two injured kittens. "It might be a little dangerous, and I don't want you to be in danger. Just wait for good news at home."

Song Jing pouted and said, "Then I wish you all the best. Come home early."

"Okay." Although He Mian knew that she was just saying it casually and that "home" only meant a house or residence in general, he was still somewhat happy.

After Song Jing finished speaking, she realized that there was a subtle feeling in their conversation, but she couldn't figure out what the feeling was.
