Master 17 (going to be V~)
He Mian finished his dinner hastily and left. Based on Song Jing's understanding of him, he must not have eaten enough.
It was still daylight when he left home. Today was the weekend and people usually ate early. When Song Jing returned to her home, she sat on the balcony and enjoyed the cool evening breeze for a while. The sky was still bright. She stared at the clouds moving slowly in the direction of the wind and was stunned for a while.
Song Jing leaned back in her chair, listening to the wind rustling through the floors, the occasional sound of aircraft passing by her ears. She pulled out her phone and took a few pictures of the sunset.
As she scrolled through the albums, Song Jing saw that the one named "Little Rabbit" was still safely stored in her phone. Even though she had changed her phone two or three times in the past few years, the photos were still synced.
She is not actually a person who likes taking photos particularly, but she took thousands of photos of Xiaomian. Apart from landscape photos and some information photos, the rest of the photo album are photos of Xiaomian.
When she took the little rabbit to the animal hospital that night after she picked it up, the doctor told her that the cat was probably less than two months old and looked to be only a little over one month old.
Song Jing didn't know why the one-month-old kitten was injured and thrown into the university's garbage dump, but since she took it away, she decided to keep it.
When the little rabbit is just starting to grow up, its fur color is mixed together and dull. As it grows a little, its fur color becomes lighter and it looks much better.
It had been two months since she last dreamed of the little rabbit. It hadn't appeared in her dreams for a long time.
"Why don't you tell me how you are doing every time you appear in my dreams?" Song Jing closed his phone and sighed.
He Mian still hadn't returned home until she finished taking a shower. Song Jing had been sitting in the living room watching variety shows but didn't hear He Mian come home and open the door. Looking from her large balcony, she saw that his house was also pitch black.
In the evening, she couldn't help but take a bowl of ice cream from the refrigerator, and her stomach started to hurt when she finished eating the ice cream.
Song Jing put down the spoon and rubbed her stomach. Suddenly, both sides of her waist began to ache and swell. Song Jing's eyebrows jumped and she thought something was wrong.
She crouched down and ran to the bathroom and exclaimed - why do some people always eat something cold before their period?
Song Jing rubbed her waist as she walked back to her room and discovered something even more upsetting: the nightshades at home were gone. "I clearly remember buying a lot of them during the last shopping festival."
Not sure if it was the hormones or if she was just a little irritable, but Song Jing pouted sadly, and reluctantly changed her clothes and prepared to go downstairs to the convenience store to buy some food to cope with the situation.
As soon as the door was closed, Song Jing turned back and said, "Hiss, I almost forgot to take my bag."
Song Jing has many bags, but she usually carries this one because it has a large capacity and the appearance suits her aesthetic taste.
There were also some items in the bag that she had prepared when she went out to climb the mountain that morning.
The nearest supermarket in the community is still some distance away, but there is a 24-hour chain convenience store across the street from the community gate, which is the nearest convenience store to the apartment building where she lives.
Because she didn't want to walk too far, she simply went to the convenience store across the street.
"Is 420 or 440 better? They should be about the same." Song Jing picked the most commonly used brand and paid the bill.
As she walked out of the convenience store, she stamped her feet in the cool night breeze.
Although this community is located near the city center, it is considered an older urban area and the nearby buildings are relatively old. The alley next to the convenience store is the route Song Jing often takes to get home.
There was only one street light a long way away, and the one closest to her was even broken.
Song Jing subconsciously looked back at the endless alley. In fact, this road cannot be called an alley because the width of the road is wider than that of an ordinary alley.
It is not a problem for a small car to drive through here.
Song Jing squinted her eyes. Although she was nearsighted, she recognized that the car parked in the alley with its lights flashing was He Mian's car.
He bought a parking space in the parking lot, so why is he parking here now?
Song Jing tilted her head and leaned forward to look in the direction of the alley. He Mian was standing under an abandoned old building, talking on the phone.
Feeling the gaze not far away, He Mian raised his head and looked at Song Jing, and their eyes met in the dark night.
Song Jing waved her hand, and then saw He Mian seemed to smile at her.
Her eyelids suddenly twitched several times, and she felt a little uneasy all over. She slung her bag over her shoulder and walked towards He Mian.
He Mian hung up the phone and looked at Song Jing who was walking towards him. "Why did you come downstairs?" he asked her.
Song Jing glanced at her bag and said, "I came to the convenience store to buy some things." She suddenly stopped and looked past He Mian into the deeper part of the alley.
The quiet, dark alley has a sense of the unknown.
He Mian was startled. He smelled the scent of other living things in the air. He took a few steps and suddenly grabbed Song Jing's wrist, whispering to her, "Go home quickly."
The sound of stones being crushed underfoot reached their eardrums. Song Jing was stunned for less than a second and immediately walked towards the light. However, she was blocked by a tall man after taking two steps. He was holding an object reflecting light in his hand.
Song Jing couldn't see clearly, but instinctively turned around and called out, "He Mian."
"Be careful!" He Mian's reaction and movements were faster than those of ordinary people. The moment Song Jing received his reminder, he had already held her hand and stood in front of her.
However, the body was not strong enough to react to the attack so it took a defensive stance.
He Mian took a breath, and although he dodged quickly enough, he was still cut by the knife.
He knocked the knife off the man's wrist with his backhand. The man on the opposite side glanced at it and wanted to bend down to pick it up while He Mian was injured, but his eyes were covered by a layer of irritating liquid. He covered his eyes in pain.
Song Jing stood there holding the pepper spray tightly in her hands. Seeing the man covering his eyes, she knew that her spray had taken effect.
Fortunately, she carried this bag when she went out.
The spray is placed in the side pocket of the bag - where you can reach it with just a bend of your right hand.
The watch on her wrist reminded her again because of her rapid heart rate. Just when her mind was still blank, two uniformed men came from the other side of the road and handcuffed the person on the ground.
The spray bottle fell from her hand as she lost strength.
Although the uniforms seemed a little different from the usual police uniforms, Song Jing could tell that the two uniformed personnel were police officers. She had never seen such a scene since she was a child. What happened in just a few seconds shocked her so much that she gasped for breath.
"It's okay, it's okay." He Mian was relieved to see that she was just scared, and walked over and hugged her out of his heart.
Song Jing did not struggle to break free from his arms. She was so scared that she felt dizzy and could hardly stand, so she had to lean on him. Song Jing bit her lip and tried to make her breathing steady.
Her breath was filled with the scent of He Mian, a faint fragrance. The alley was uneven, and Song Jing happened to be standing in a sunken area, her head resting on He Mian's chest.
Even though I was leaning against his right chest, I could clearly hear the heartbeat on the left.
"I'm sorry I dragged you into this. Are you hurt?" The vibration of the chest and the sound of the heartbeat reached her ears.
"I'm fine." Feeling something sticky on his hand, Song Jing lowered his head and looked at his bloody hand. He felt dizzy and said, "He Mian, your hand is injured."
"It's okay, it's not a big deal." He looked down. This was nothing compared to the injuries he had suffered before. Besides, his body could endure pain like a cat.
He Mian smelled the strong scent of shower gel on her body, probably because she had just taken a shower. He glanced down and saw that she was still wearing casual clothes. "We may have to go to the police station. We'll have to take up some of your time."
Song Jing glanced sideways at the man and nodded silently.
-
He Mian has been investigating a group operating in several cities, including one near City A, that is trapping domestic and stray cats on a large scale and illegally transporting cats without undergoing inspection or quarantine.
Although all the illegal cat cars were stopped, He Mian still could not find the real leader of the entire group. The investigation lasted for a full year and a half, and there was no new progress until recently.
The leader, like him, was not a real human being, but an adult wild raccoon.
Wild raccoons are the natural enemies of cats. If it were simply a matter of survival of the fittest, He Mian would have no right to interfere. There would already be a reasonable food chain in nature.
No animal is truly good or bad. There is no absolutely good cat, no absolutely bad raccoon, and no absolutely good person.
Of course, in He Mian's opinion, Song Jing is the absolutely good person.
The leader, Ye Lizi, took advantage of the good and evil of human beings and used improper means to kill many kittens. He Mian has been in contact with the police.
Tonight, He Mian was followed by Ye Lizi on his way home from cooperating with the police.
But after He Mian returned to the downstairs of the community, he found that Ye Lizi seemed to have lost them, or perhaps he found that there were also police officers following them and turned around.
He Mian didn't expect that he arrived downstairs of the community earlier than him, and he didn't expect that Song Jing would be involved in the closing of the case.
However, when Song Jing heard about all the things, it became that the leader of the illegal cat car gang was deliberately taking revenge on He Mian, a member of the rescue agency. She could not know the real details for the time being.
Her behavior was considered self-defense, and she was frightened, so the police quickly took her statement and took her to the hospital.
When Song Jing arrived at the hospital, Jojo He Mian had just treated his wound. She stood at the door of the ward and looked at his right hand which was wrapped in white gauze. She pursed her lips and looked a little sad.
"I'm glad you're not hurt." He Mian smiled with the corners of his pale mouth.
Song Jing actually seldom cried. The last time she cried was when she mentioned that Xiaomian was missing. This time she cried because he was injured while protecting her.
It turns out that both times of crying were because of He Mian.
She sat on the edge of the bed and muttered, "Whether you're protecting your subordinates as a boss, or you're worried about your neighbors or friends getting hurt, you shouldn't rush in so fearlessly on your own."
Song Jing hadn't recovered from the scene yet. The man must have intended to kill him with great force, leaving a long wound on He Mian's arm.
If He Mian hadn't reacted quickly, the wound would have been more serious.
No matter how advanced modern medical technology is, scars would definitely remain on his forearms. It was really unsightly to have such long scars on He Mian's fair and strong arms.
He raised his left hand and wiped the tears from Song Jing's eyes. He Mian's hands were very hot, and his body temperature seemed to have always been higher than hers. His warm fingertips carefully and gently stroked Song Jing's face.
Song Jing shrugged and stepped back a little. Seeing He Mian's frowning expression, she silently moved her face closer.
Forget it, let him wipe it if he wants. He is a wounded person after all, and his mood is more important.
After being given the strong medicine, the wounds on his body were indeed not as painful, but He Mian was a little drowsy. He shook his head reluctantly and tried to explain, "It's not these reasons."
"What, what, these reasons?" Song Jing sniffed and suppressed her sobs. When she cried, the tip of her nose and the corners of her eyes would turn red. She usually looked aloof, but now Song Jing looked particularly fragile.
"I like you, so I'm willing to protect you at all costs. It would be more painful for you to get hurt than for me to get hurt myself."
"Ah?" Song Jing was stunned.
There were only the two of them in the single room, and the room was instantly filled with silence, so quiet that they could almost hear each other's breathing.
He Mian's warm fingertips stroked the corners of her eyes and gently wiped away the overflowing tears, his amber-gold eyes looking at her with burning eyes.
