Chapter 4

Min Xi looked past Fu Yanzhou at the long row of temperature-controlled wine cabinets behind him. The dim yellow light on the top of the cabinets reflected warmth on the glass doors of the wine cabinets, and the outline of his straight back could be vaguely seen.

"I didn't even give you a wedding present."

Min Xi picked up her phone and continued to edit the half-edited photo. Because of the wedding gift he gave her, her tone became lighter: "I'll give it to you later to show my sincerity."

"No need." Fu Yanzhou touched the lighter on the corner of the table, "I don't need anything. The most sincere gift is that you are not angry with me."

“…”

The pleasant atmosphere between them never lasted more than a minute.

Fu Yanzhou didn't think there was anything wrong with what he said. Min Xi remained silent, so he didn't think much about it. There were two sets of candles next to the cake, and he took them and opened them.

Secretary Bai specifically asked the cake shop for two sets of candles, one set in the shape of his age and the other in the shape of white roses, to prepare for Min Xi.

He put both sets of candles on the cake, the set with numbers on his side and the rose candles on Min Xi's side.

With a "hiss" sound, Fu Yanzhou lit the lighter.

Min Xi finished editing the photo and was slightly surprised to see the candles on the cake. He didn't expect him to take the initiative to add two sets.

She stood up and reminded him, "Wait a minute before blowing. I'll turn off the light."

Only the light in the kitchen was left on, and all the lights in the living room, dining room and corridor were turned off.

The warm yellow light on the wine cabinet perfectly sets off the romantic atmosphere of the restaurant.

Fu Yanzhou lit the candle, Min Xi sat down, and a gust of air came back from his body, causing the candlelight to flicker.

Under the light and shadow, his face was half bright and half dark, deep and coldly handsome.

"Make a wish." Min Xi turned on the camera and pointed it at the cake on the table. Suddenly he remembered something and adjusted the lens to hold the phone vertically.

Fu Yanzhou glanced at her phone. From this angle it looked like she was taking a picture of him, but not completely.

"I don't have a wish." He looked at her. "If you want to make one, make one to the candle over there."

Min Xi took a photo that he was satisfied with, locked his phone and put it aside. Before making a wish, he wished the birthday boy: "I hope your biological age will always be 18 years old."

This wish inevitably makes people think a lot. Fu Yanzhou's expression remained unchanged as he nodded: "I heard your wish. You don't have to make a wish so loudly. I can hear it even if you make it softer."

“…I haven’t made a wish yet.”

Fu Yanzhou stared into her eyes for a few seconds: "Then continue."

"Promise me something I can help you achieve." He then added.

Sometimes a few words from him could make her feel disheartened, and sometimes a casual word from him could move her beyond words.

Min Xi has only one wish for him: she hopes he will fall in love with her.

Fu Yanzhou picked up a little cream from the cake with a fork and put it into his mouth as a gesture, completing the cake-eating process.

She didn't say anything for a long time, nor did she squint at the candle to make a wish. I urged her: "Hurry up and make a wish."

Min Xi said, "It's done."

Fu Yanzhou: "If you don't tell me, how can I help you realize your wish if I know what it is?"

Min Xi wanted to interrupt: "Didn't you say that you don't have to make a loud wish? You can still hear it clearly even if it's quiet."

She is just being argumentative.

Fu Yanzhou looked straight at her, with a hint of helplessness in his narrow, dark eyes.

He tried his best to remain calm and said, "Pray again."

She couldn't make a wish in front of him that he would fall in love with her. It was not the right time yet. They couldn't even live in peace now. In fact, even if the two of them get along well before making this wish, she may not get what she wants.

Liking him was her secret alone, full of passion and courage, and no one else knew it.

It can only be said that other wishes conceal the real wish.

"Then listen carefully." Min Xi narrowed his eyes, even his eyelashes showed piety, and began the wishing time.

"I have many wishes, I will tell you one by one. I am a person who cares about my reputation. I can't bring myself to apologize when I have conflicts with others. I hope that from now on, no matter whether I am right or wrong, the person who apologizes can be Fu Yanzhou."

Fu Yanzhou sighed softly in his heart.

"The second wish is difficult, I'm worried it won't come true. I hope that after tonight, I can have a husband who won't make me angry."

"Min Xi, you..." Fu Yanzhou laughed out of anger, "Go on."

He decided not to interrupt her and wait to hear what other sarcastic remarks she would make to him.

"The third wish is a bit long. I hope to be a woman with substance and determination, not to be easily seduced by a person's appearance, and not to be easily mesmerized by some carefully retouched wedding photos and waste money on buying scarves to cover the photos."

"The fourth wish..."

She is a person who will never give up until the very last hurdle. Fu Yanzhou couldn't listen any more: "Xixi, that's about it. I celebrate my birthday every year and save the wishes for later."

Min Xi opened his eyes, curled his lips, and said seriously: "Then I'll make three first."

She blew out the candles and Fu Yanzhou went to turn on the light.

Min Xi pulled out the candles, took down the two fresh flowers on the cake, and took them to the kitchen to carefully rinse the cream on the flowers. The petals soaked in water were fresh and elegant, and she put them in a vase.

"Why do you like white gentian?" Fu Yanzhou asked, which was a rare request.

"It looks nice. I like its flower language."

"What is the language of flowers?"

"Hopeless love." Unrepentant love.

Fu Yanzhou was just picking up a wet towel to wipe his hands when he paused after hearing this. Hopeless love seemed to imply that their marriage life was hopeless.

After all the birthday ceremonies were over, Min Xi picked up the fork and started eating the cake, one bite after another.

Fu Yanzhou pushed the cake aside and said, "Take a couple of bites to show your appreciation. The main course hasn't been served yet."

"I'm hungry." Min Xi stretched out his arm and picked up a piece of meat. "I didn't have lunch."

"lose weight?"

"Do I still need to lose weight? I'm busy. I don't have time to eat."

Fu Yanzhou frowned slightly, said nothing, and pushed the cake over again.

Thinking that he would show some concern, Min Xi planned to tell him about her work. After waiting for a long time, he still didn't respond. She put away her desire to share and lowered her head to eat her cake in silence.

While I was eating, a WeChat message came in.

Min Xi pursed her lips and swallowed the cake in her mouth, then opened her phone to check the message. Fu Yanzhou shared a business card with her.

She looked up with a puzzled look.

Fu Yanzhou: "The WeChat of the chef in the kitchen. The dishes he cooks suit your taste. Next time you don't have time to eat, ask him to cook. He will deliver the food to you anytime as long as you are in Shanghai."

He passed Min Xi's business card to the chef and left a message: [My wife Min Xi's contact information. 】

Min Xi found herself that she was not satisfied. After solving her meal problem, she still hoped that he could care about her a little. She hoped that he would ask her why she didn't even have lunch, and ask her how her work was going and whether it was going well.

Ask her again why this business trip takes so long.

Soon, the appetizers were served.

Fu Yanzhou took two wine glasses and opened the wine.

Min Xi put down his fork and moved the cake aside. Fu Yanzhou poured a cup and handed it to her first. She took the cup and then noticed that he was not wearing a wedding ring on his ring finger.

Maybe she took it off while taking a shower, she thought.

The chef came over from time to time, but since there were outsiders present, she didn't ask much.

The only tacit understanding and the only telepathy between her and Fu Yanzhou was that they should try not to talk to each other while eating. The food was delicious, and if they were angered by what the other person said, it would affect their mood and waste the food, which was not worth it.

Except for occasionally looking at each other when clinking glasses, she and Fu Yanzhou got along well with each other the rest of the time.

The meal was almost over. Min Xi was only seven-tenths full when he put down his cutlery and wiped the corners of his mouth with a napkin, looking at him from time to time.

Fu Yanzhou shook the remaining wine in the bottom of the glass: "What do you want to say?"

Min Xi held his chin up: "I heard that you have the ability to predict the future."

Fu Yanzhou smiled, his smile was very faint, and said nonchalantly: "Really? Who said that? This person not only spread rumors, but also spread rumors everywhere."

Min Xi: “…”

Fu Yanzhou raised his head, drank the wine in the glass, put down the glass and looked at her: "Min Xi, if you have something to say in the future, just say it directly. There is no need to test or beat around the bush."

"Then let me be frank. Can the three wishes I made come true?"

"Next time, make a practical wish. I can help you realize it with money. Any amount of money is fine." Fu Yanzhou picked up his cell phone and lighter, "I'm going to the study to smoke a cigarette."

Min Xi poured himself another half glass of wine and sipped it slowly.

Looking down from the floor-to-ceiling windows of the restaurant, you can see thousands of lights and endless streams of light.

The cell phone rang and it was Yu Chengtan calling.

Min Xi came back to his senses and picked up the phone to answer it.

"Boss Yu, what instructions do you have so late at night?"

Every time they talked on the phone at night, Yu Chengtan would habitually ask if she was still working overtime, and then ask if she had arrived home. After learning that she was at home and had already eaten, he got to the point: "You will be back tomorrow. Sheng Jianqi will be in Beijing on a business trip tomorrow."

"What's the meaning?"

She was making her project plan and there was no conflict with Sheng Jianqi's time and place of business trip.

Silence for a few seconds.

Yu Chengtan didn't want to upset her at night, but he couldn't hide it since things had come to this point. He didn't plan to hide it, and he would not keep her in the dark.

"Sheng Jianqi asked me to meet him to discuss Shengshi Technology. He wanted me to take over this project personally. Min Xi, you come back first, and we can discuss it after you come back. I will find a way."

Min Xi understood that Sheng Jianqi had made up his mind to replace her.

Shengshi Technology is a major client of Jiachen Public Relations. Even the boss Yu Chengtan cannot do whatever he wants because lost clients will go to competitors.

Even if she was upset, she would not target Yu Chengtan, nor would she embarrass him: "Okay, book me a flight for tomorrow afternoon."

After hanging up the phone, Min Xi quietly drank half a glass of wine.

Fu Yanzhou hadn't come back from smoking yet, so she went to the study to find him.

He was leaning lazily on the desk, looking at his phone. After dinner, perhaps because the cufflinks seemed restrictive to him, he took them off and placed them on the corner of the table. His sleeves were rolled up a few times, revealing clear and strong lines on his arms.

The ashtray was clean with no cigarette butts and there was no smell of tobacco in the room.

"Don't you want to smoke?"

Fu Yanzhou glanced sideways: "I remembered it wrongly. The cigarettes in the study were all smoked last time."

He only smokes occasionally and doesn't have the habit of carrying cigarettes with him.

Min Xi crossed her arms and tried to lean on him several times. The distant feeling he exuded when they were together made her finally lean on the edge of the table, about half a meter away from him.

The curtains were not closed. She looked out the window at the endless night while he worked beside her.

A quarter of an hour later, Fu Yanzhou left the work group.

She waited quietly for so long, he asked: "What's the matter?"

"I've finished my work here and will be back in Beijing tomorrow afternoon. It's the weekend, so I'll go back and take a couple of days off." Min Xi stood up straight and paused for a moment. "I have to give you a birthday present."

She took a step forward and stood in front of him, tiptoeing, with her hands on his shoulders. When she got close to him, the cold hormones in his body disrupted her breathing.

Min Xi kissed him lightly on the side of his face: "Happy birthday."

Fu Yanzhou's Adam's apple moved slightly, and he could smell her faint fragrance in his breath, the same as the fresh scent in the bedroom.

He lowered his eyes to look at her. Even though she was full of thorns and could easily make him angry, he still planned to take her with him: "Do you want to go to Jiangcheng with me?"
