Chapter 20 Rice Soup with Dried Shrimp, Squid and Chinese Cabbage

"Knock knock knock!" There was a soft knock on the door. Yan Zi wiped his eyes and was about to open the door, but suddenly stopped.

"Knock, knock, knock!" After knocking a few more times, Feng Xiaoyun heard no sound from inside. He guessed that Yan Zi drank too much yesterday and had not woken up yet.

Yan Zi tiptoed to the door and peeked through the peephole. He saw Feng Xiaoyun knocking on Aunt Mei's door across the street.

Soon Aunt Mei opened the door: "What's wrong, Xiaoyun?"

"Aunt Mei, didn't Yan Zi drink a little too much yesterday? I just bought her some rice with shrimp, squid, and choy sum. It's the best hangover cure. They won't sell it if it's less. Look how much I bought. You and Uncle Ma should have some too. It's good for the stomach."

"Hey, kid, you always find ways to send things to Aunt Mei's house. Yanyan just got up, and for some reason she banged on your door. I told her you weren't home, and she went back home. Look how mad she was just now, and you bought her this and that. If she dares to bully you, tell Aunt Mei and she'll scold her."

"Oh, that's great. You don't know how fierce Yan Zi can be sometimes. I feel relieved to have you, Aunt Mei, protecting me. I'll leave her portion at the door, and I'll take yours and Uncle Ma's in."

After saying that, Feng Xiaoyun put a bowl of porridge at Yan Zi's door. Yan Zi quickly turned sideways and hid behind the door to prevent Feng Xiaoyun from discovering that he was peeking too much through the peephole.

Then Feng Xiaoyun followed Aunt Mei into her house.

Yan Zi waited a while longer, and when he saw no movement outside, he very slowly opened his door. He didn't know how old the lock was; it made a loud rattling noise with the slightest effort. He had been thinking about dripping some cooking oil in there for a while, but he kept putting it off.

Finally, I quietly opened the door and just picked up the porridge on the ground when the door opposite opened.

The atmosphere suddenly became a little awkward.

Feng Xiaoyun: "..." Curious, why does Yan Zi act like a thief?

Yan Zi "..." blushed. Why didn't he come out earlier or later? He came out just after she brought up the food.

Feng Xiaoyun: "That..."

Yan Zi: "That..."

“…………”The atmosphere became awkward again.

Feng Xiaoyun: "You speak first..."

Yan Zi: "You speak first..."

“…………”

Feng Xiaoyun: "Um, are you okay? I saw you drank a little too much yesterday, so I bought you some rice with shrimp, squid, and choy sum. Eat more, it's good for your stomach."

Yan Zi: "Who said I drank too much? I can handle alcohol pretty well!"

After saying that, he retracted his hand holding the food, lowered his head and prepared to go in.

Then suddenly another head popped up: "Thank you!"

With a "bang", the door closed.

Yan Zi was in the room, holding a box of lunch and leaning against the door, wondering how Feng Xiaoyun could have seen all his embarrassing things.

Also, why did he tell Aunt Mei that I always bullied him? And why did he say that I was mean? Did I bully him? Was I mean to him?

He's a smooth talker, not a good person. I shouldn't have been so foolish as to go to the door and take the rice noodle soup he sent me. Humph, what's so good about rice noodle soup? Even if I were to eat instant noodles, I would never eat the rice noodle soup he sent me.

She thought so, but when the tempting aroma penetrated Yan Zi's nose through the lunch box, her stomach began to rumble.

Hey, it seems we are out of instant noodles and water at home. Yes, there must be none.

In this case, I'll just have to eat this rice porridge reluctantly. After all, I'll be a public figure in the future, and it's shameful to waste food.

Thinking of this, Yan Zi sat down at the table and opened the lunch box in his hand.

I don’t know where Feng Xiaoyun bought the takeaway, but it was packed in an insulated lunch box. Not only was there steaming hot rice in it, but there were also two appetizers on top.

So fancy!

First, I picked up a piece of crystal-clear diced radish.

Hmm!

Yan Zi hadn't expected a small piece of diced radish to be so delicious. It was sour, sweet, and crisp. It crackled in her mouth, and then her mouth was filled with a sweet and sour fragrance. Her initial lack of appetite due to a burning stomach was completely wiped out, and she suddenly felt a surge of appetite.

I scooped a spoonful of soaked rice with a spoon and tested the temperature to find it was just right.

So he ate one spoonful after another, occasionally taking a few bites of side dishes in between.

He ate half a box in one gulp.

The salty, crispy flavor of the dried shrimp, the chewy squid and the unique sweetness of the choy sum, all combined with the broth and rice, made Yan Zi feel that even the buffets at the two five-star hotels he had visited with Feng Xiaoyun were not as delicious as this bowl of rice.

I don’t know where this foodie found such delicious rice porridge. I must ask her next time.

Soon the whole box of rice porridge was eaten up, and even the two compartments of side dishes were cleared out.

Afterward, I snuggled up on the sofa with my baby in my arms. It was so comfortable! My whole body felt warm and comfortable. All that burning feeling in my stomach and that dizzy feeling I had after a hangover were gone. I felt completely refreshed.

"Knock knock knock!" The knock on the door sounded again.

"What are you doing again?" Yan Zi was guarding the door and looked at Feng Xiaoyun with a stern face. He was really embarrassed just now.

"Sister Chen said she called you but your phone was turned off, and asked me to go shopping for some clothes with you when I could get in touch with you."

"Buying clothes? Why are we going shopping for clothes? And why are we going with you?"

"Ahem," Feng Xiaoyun cleared her throat and imitated Sister Chen's voice, tone, and serious expression. "Yan Zi's phone is turned off. Try contacting her. If you can, accompany her to buy two sets of clothes. She has a meeting with a music producer and a song recording on Monday, so at least she should dress a little more fashionably and not look like a high school student. Since you studied abroad in Vienna, I believe you have some basic taste. Help her choose carefully."
