"She has her battlefield, and we have our duty. Guard this place and wait for her return, or... be prepared to continue fighting even without her."
“Let her go,” Lorraine said finally, her voice low. “It’s her choice, and perhaps… her only choice.”
Sun Yiming fell silent.
He looked at Lorraine's calm profile, then gazed into the deep passage, as if he could see Gu Xi's resolute back disappearing into the vast sea.
He was still filled with worry, but Lorraine's words weighed heavily on his heart like a cold stone, forcing him to accept the reality.
Yes, Sister Xi has never been one to be bound by difficulties. She always sees further and thinks more deeply.
The laughter and chatter in the cave square continued, but in this secluded corner, only two men remained, gazing silently, their eyes filled with a deeper sense of worry and anticipation for the future.
From that moment on, the safety of the island rested even more heavily on their shoulders. Meanwhile, Gu Xi, carrying everyone's hopes and concerns, sailed into the unknown and dangerous depths of the sea.
---
The deep sea enveloped the Future, and it silently sailed away from the island that had just experienced fierce battle and celebration.
On the deck, Gu Xi stood by the railing, the sea breeze blowing through her hair.
She held the soft octopus in her arms; the little creature was tugging at her clothes with its tentacles, making satisfied "cheep" sounds.
Gu Xi gently stroked its smooth head, her gaze fixed on the increasingly smaller outline of the island behind her, her expression complex.
Not far from her, Ariel stood quietly, her long, light blue hair shimmering in the dim light. She too was gazing in the direction of the island, her expression somewhat shy and reluctant.
Beside it, a large fish, entirely crimson with scales that seemed to be burning with flames—Flamescale—appeared extremely excited, wagging its tail fin as if it were about to jump up.
"Boss Fish!" Flame Scale's voice was clear and loud. "Are we going to go play with Ais? She must be so bored!"
Upon hearing this, Gu Xi turned around, a faint smile appearing on her face, but she did not answer directly.
After a long while, she looked at Yan Lin and asked, "You are one of the main defensive forces. Are you alright running out with me over there?"
Flamescale flicked its tail in dissatisfaction, making a splashing sound.
"Hmph! I'm your fish, not theirs! I'll go wherever you go! Besides, there are other sea beasts around, so we can leave the defense to them! Tearing apart deep-sea creatures is their favorite activity."
Gu Xi was amused by its self-righteous attitude and let out a soft laugh. She looked into the distance again, the dark sea seeming to connect with her distant past.
“I hope…” she said softly, as if to herself and as if to her companions, “that when I come back next time, I can take you to see Zhushi Lane and my family.”
"Family!" Flame Scale exclaimed even more excitedly. "Great! Next time, I'll definitely invite Ais too, so we can go together!"
Gu Xi smiled and shook her head, saying nothing more. She patted the octopus in her arms, "Alright, octopus, set the course, let's go."
"Chirp!" The octopus immediately perked up, slid off her arms, and its tentacles began to operate nimbly on the control panel.
The Future adjusted its direction slightly, its engine humming softly, and accelerated towards the unknown depths of the ocean.
The island's light completely disappeared below the horizon, leaving only endless deep blue and an unpredictable journey ahead.
