Ping led Ying Huo back to the site of their previous fierce battle with the raging yeti. The battlefield, once filled with the smoke of battle, was now eerily quiet. Under the moonlight, several snow rabbits were huddled around the raging yeti's corpse, nibbling at it. Their behavior was completely different from their usual docile image, appearing both strange and natural.
“It seems that the laws of nature are always unpredictable,” Chen Ping said, observing the snow hares’ behavior, his eyes gleaming with insight into the mysteries of nature. He explained softly to Ying Huo, “In this environment with a single food chain, the pressure to survive forces these snow hares to adapt, thus developing the ability to hunt carnivores. This is the principle of survival of the fittest.”
Ying Huo was stunned. She had never imagined that these seemingly harmless snow rabbits could have such a side. She murmured, "So that's how it is. The law of survival is truly cruel."
Chen Ping smiled and took out a delicate short bow and a quiver filled with sharp arrows from his personal space. "In that case, we don't need to be polite. These snow rabbits are perfect for our dinner."
As he spoke, he slowly drew back the bowstring, aimed at a snow hare that was eating, and fired an arrow with perfect accuracy, hitting its target squarely. The snow hare fell to the ground, and the rest of the snow hares scattered in fright.
"Chen Ping, your archery skills are amazing!" Ying Huo exclaimed. At the same time, she realized that this adventure, besides being fraught with danger, was also full of wisdom for survival and a profound understanding of the laws of nature.
Upon hearing this, Chen Ping shook his head. What's so special about that? Once you reach a certain level of strength, learning new things is quite easy.
They walked over and picked up the snow rabbits, skillfully preparing them. Soon, several snow rabbits became their dinner for the night. The two built a small campfire on the icy plain and roasted the snow rabbits. Although the conditions were simple, in this cold environment, this hard-won meal felt especially warm and satisfying.
"It seems that sometimes, survival skills are more important than combat skills," Ying Huo remarked as she chewed on the tender rabbit meat.
The firelight shone on their faces, adding a touch of warmth to the snowy night.
Looking at the rabbit meat on the fire, Ying Huo suddenly said, "Chen Ping, this time I want to add more cumin and chili!"
Upon hearing this, Chen Ping laughed and said, "The rabbits are so cute, Ying Huo, how could you bear to eat them? And you're eating them so heartily? Haha."
Ying Huo tore off a small piece of rabbit meat before replying, "Rabbits are cute, but when I think about the scene of rabbits eating raging snowmen, I don't find them cute anymore. But they smell really good, hehe. Chen Ping, your cooking skills are really good."
This is the first time I've ever had such delicious barbecue, and there are so many flavors to choose from!
As Chen Ping sprinkled cumin and chili powder onto the rabbit meat, he laughed and said, "What's this? Let me tell you, if conditions allow, I can make many more dishes, such as spicy rabbit head, salt and pepper rabbit legs, hand-shredded rabbit meat, and so on. There are many more."
Ying Huo's mouth was watering as she listened. Luckily, she still had some roasted rabbit meat in her hand, which allowed her to take a bite, otherwise her mouth would have been watering.
Ying Huo asked curiously, "Chen Ping, how come you can cook so many dishes? Could it be that your main profession is a master chef?"
Chen Ping smiled and shook his head, sprinkling the last bit of seasoning evenly over the rabbit meat. The firelight illuminated his focused face, making him appear exceptionally relaxed and cheerful. "It's not that exaggerated. I wouldn't dare call myself a master chef, but learning a few signature dishes is a kind of enjoyment in life over the long years."
Besides, being able to cook for yourself while traveling is a survival skill. At least you won't starve, right? He handed Ying Huo a skewer of freshly roasted rabbit meat, cooked to perfection, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with a wonderful aroma.
Upon seeing this, Ying Huo quickly thanked him, then took the food and ate a bite: "Ouch~ It's so spicy."
Chen Ping laughed and said, "You asked for chili peppers yourself, here you go, and some milk."
The two enjoyed their meal and chatted idly in a warm and relaxed atmosphere. After their meal, they tidied up their makeshift campsite and prepared to continue discussing their next steps.
"Now that we've eaten and drunk our fill, it's time to get down to business. What are your thoughts on that cave?" Chen Ping asked, his gaze drifting into the distance, seemingly already formulating a strategy in his mind.
Ying Huo clapped her hands in agreement: "That treasure chest is definitely not simple, and the BOSS inside is probably much stronger than the berserk yeti outside. We should be better prepared. I remember reading some information about snow creatures in my home library before, which might come in handy."
Chen Ping nodded, a hint of approval flashing in his eyes. "Good idea. It's always good to know the enemy. Besides, we also need to consider how to deal with the possible traps and mechanisms in the cave. I have some auxiliary tools and potions in my spatial ring that can be used to deal with emergencies."
They began to discuss in detail the various situations they might encounter, including how to enter the cave silently, how to identify and disarm traps, and tactical coordination when facing the BOSS. Chen Ping shared his past experiences, while Ying Huo, drawing on his own knowledge, proposed some innovative strategies.
"Most importantly, we must remain vigilant and cooperate with each other," Chen Ping concluded. "No matter what's hidden in that treasure chest, safety must be our top priority."
As night deepened and starlight adorned the sky, their conversation stood out clearly in the tranquil night. This in-depth exchange further strengthened their understanding and trust. They felt both nervous and excited about the challenges ahead.
"Let's take a rest, and we'll set off first thing tomorrow morning. Tonight, at least we can get a good night's sleep," Chen Ping suggested. They found a relatively flat spot that was sheltered from the wind and snow, then took out their tent, laid out their temporary sleeping mats, and were ready to get a good night's rest.
Uh, Ying Huo looked at Chen Ping as he crawled into the tent to prepare for sleep, and suddenly her face turned red. It was the first time she had slept with someone else, which made her a little embarrassed. But after thinking about it, she looked at the dark and windy ice field around her and crawled in anyway.
Upon entering, Ying Huo saw that Chen Ping was already in bed and seemed to be asleep. She breathed a sigh of relief and then looked at him with envy. His sleep quality was really good; he could fall asleep instantly.
Ying Huo looked at the quilt in front of her, hesitated for a while, and finally decided to lie down, close her eyes and start to sleep. She quickly fell into a dream.
A few minutes later, Ying Huo suddenly began to writhe.
