Chapter 23: Feigning Compromise
At nine o'clock in the evening, Lin Yun walked into the house, exhausted.
When he returned to the company in the afternoon, his superior reminded him of the recent increase in absenteeism. Then he returned to the office and turned on his work phone, and there were more than one missed calls from subordinates and clients.
Fortunately, he turned off his cell phone and left it in the office, otherwise he would have been harassed by phone calls when he encountered the crippled beast.
After a busy day, I finally got off work in the dark and rushed home by tram.
When he walked into the living room, he saw Xia Liang sitting on the sofa playing with his cell phone.
Because she didn't bring any spare clothes, she seemed to be wearing Lin Xiaolu's clothes. The pajamas that were originally a bit too big for Lin Xiaolu were now made to look slimming.
Because of the noise coming from the entrance, Xia Liang also looked in the direction of Lin Yun. When she saw that it was a strange uncle who came in, she was stunned for a moment, then quickly understood the situation, stood up, and said with a smile in a rather well-behaved manner: "Hello, uncle!"
The appearance of Xia Liang itself can easily give people the impression of being "quiet" and "well-behaved". Now that these elements are combined, it really gives people a very good impression. It fully fits the stereotype of "other people's good children" in the minds of many parents.
He pretends to be quite similar.
Lin Yun loosened his tie and made an assessment in his mind.
However, he had no right to say anything about Xia Liang in this matter. At the moment, he was Lin Xiaolu's father, not Cuiqiao, so he had to act as if he didn't know Xia Liang at all.
"Oh, is it Lulu's classmate?"
He wasn't used to smiling, but he tried to raise the corners of his mouth to look more amiable. "Come to play with Lulu?"
"Yes, we were just doing homework together!"
Without changing his expression, Xia Liang said something that was probably a lie, "Finally I've finished writing it!"
"It's so late, why don't you go home?" Lin Yun looked calm and had no intention of exposing her.
"Xiao Lu asked me to stay with her, so I did it on my own initiative!" Xia Liang was both affectionate and polite.
"So that's how it is. Have you told your family about this?" Lin Yun said in a gentle tone.
"I have explained the situation, but it has not been confirmed yet. We have to wait for your opinion, uncle."
"Haha, how can I disagree? You young people should do more..."
The two of them chatted happily in the living room.
Lin Yun used his identity as a parent to ask a lot of questions about family studies, trying to understand his family situation. However, Xia Liang's answers were also flawless, pretending to be very serious, without revealing any information about himself.
Soon, a head with a ponytail popped out from a room not far away.
Lin Xiaolu leaned against the doorway, secretly observing the situation because she was curious about what the two people in the living room were talking about.
However, this kind of concealment was somewhat low-level, and was soon discovered by the sharp-eyed Lin Yun. He did not accommodate Lin Xiaolu and shouted directly at her: "Lulu, did you entertain your classmates well tonight?"
“Hmm…”
Lin Xiaolu, who was caught in the act, had to stand out from behind the door. She looked at Lin Yun, then at Xia Liang who was laughing secretly beside her, and replied reluctantly, "I ordered takeout."
"You're letting your classmate stay at your house tonight. Are you ready for him to sleep there?"
"Well……"
Lin Xiaolu was stuck again. She hesitated for a long time but couldn't say anything. Finally, she could only say sullenly:
"not yet."
In fact, what Lin Yun didn’t know was that until half an hour ago, Xia Liang was still staying in Lin Xiaolu’s room.
But because she was doing nothing while Lin Xiaolu was doing her homework, she would harass Lin Xiaolu from time to time and was eventually kicked out of the room.
Not to mention preparing a place for Xia Liang to sleep, Lin Xiaolu wanted to kick this man out of the house directly, but she couldn't do such a heartless thing. In the end, she drove Xia Liang to the living room and stayed in the room alone.
"Wait a minute. There are spare beddings in the master bedroom. I'll go look for them."
Fortunately, Lin Yun did not expect his daughter to be so thoughtful. It was beyond his expectation that she could give her clothes to others. In accordance with the most common hospitality, he had to prepare a place for Xia Liang to stay.
Returning to the master bedroom, he took out several sets of unused bedding from the upper layer of the closet and picked out one that was relatively suitable in size and pattern. He unfolded it and shook it. After confirming that it was clean and usable, he folded it up again and carried it to the door of Lin Xiaolu's room in his arms.
"Leave these here for now. I'll go find a cushion."
He handed the quilt in his hand to Lin Xiaolu and gave her a few instructions.
"…Thank you, but this is enough."
Lin Xiaolu hugged the quilt and lowered her head slightly: "This is my business, I will do it well."
"Do you know how to make a bed on the floor?"
Lin Yun was already used to this, and he didn't feel that he was being treated coldly. He just raised his eyebrows and asked, "Or do you plan to sleep in the bed with your classmates?"
"I know, no problem, just go do your thing." Lin Xiaolu said firmly.
Obviously, she didn't want Lin Yun to continue hosting Xia Liang.
After spending so many days with his daughter as Cuiqiao, Lin Yun has begun to be able to guess a little bit about her thoughts.
Perhaps, even if she disliked Xia Liang, Xia Liang was still related to her identity as a magical girl. Lin Xiaolu had her own ideals and aspirations for being a magical girl, so she didn't want this aspect of her life to have anything to do with her annoying father.
What a weird child. I don’t know who he takes after.
If I were Delphinium now, she would probably be happy to accept my help, right? He sighed in his heart, but there was nothing he could do, so Lin Yun could only step away and raise his hands to show that he did not intend to continue interfering: "Okay, then do as you think."
The strange and stiff atmosphere at the bedroom door also attracted Xia Liang's attention.
She had been secretly paying attention to the situation not far away. After seeing the communication between Lin Yun and Lin Xiaolu, she finally realized that the relationship between the father and daughter seemed a little too cold.
I have to help reconcile them.
So she put away her phone, pretended to be unaware, and leaned forward as if she was still in the dark: "Ah, are Xiaolu and uncle going to prepare a bed for me? I'm so sorry, thank you!"
A somewhat forced thank you broke the tense atmosphere and eased the originally tense conversation between father and daughter.
Lin Xiaolu didn't like Xia Liang, nor did she like her father, but when both of them were in front of her, she couldn't show too much rejection towards either of them, so she could only agree dully: "Yeah."
"Great! I just happen to be a little tired."
After clapping his hands in an exaggerated manner, Xia Liang smiled and pushed Lin Xiaolu's back, pushing her into the room: "Then let me help you, let's make the bed together."
Lin Yun stood there, watching the two people walk step by step into the room. During this time, Lin Xiaolu turned around and looked at him, and he just waved with one hand and said "good night" silently.
Well, I hope young people can spend more time with each other.
