Falling Cat
A sudden rainstorm stopped Wu Siqi under a roadside awning on his way home from get off work.
Wu Siqi looked up at the sky and muttered, "You're not right, I just happened to not bring an umbrella today!"
This place is still a short distance away from the residential area, so let's take a taxi home. She hates getting wet in the rain the most.
"Fortunately, there is a taxi allowance for working overtime."
Wu Siqi had just taken out her cell phone when a loud thunderclap struck, startling her. The thunder seemed to explode next to her ears, causing her to have tinnitus and dizziness for a moment before she came to her senses.
There were two bars of 4G signal in the upper right corner of the phone screen, but now there is no service. The lightning must have struck the signal tower. She was so unlucky. She decided to let it go and casually put the phone back into her coat pocket.
The rain showed no sign of stopping. It was getting heavier and heavier, and the sound of rain was mixed with the incessant thunder. "I should have known not to work overtime," Wu Siqi thought.
Another thunderbolt struck, and Wu Siqi shuddered again. She clasped her hands together and muttered, "God, please, please be kind. I've already worked 16 hours, and the client has banned my proposal three times. I have a morning meeting tomorrow. Let me go home, take a shower, and go to bed!"
It was as if the heaven and earth heard the cry in her heart, and the rain became lighter. This amount of rain was enough for her to run home. Wu Siqi held the bag in her arms and put one hand on her head to protect her increasingly fragile head. After all, with the current air quality, being exposed to acid rain would cause baldness.
She was about to take off running.
"Bang!"
Something hit the awning above his head with a loud noise, causing Wu Siqi to shrug his shoulders reflexively.
"Throwing objects from high places? Who is so uncultured?"
While Wu Siqi was complaining, she was thankful that there was an awning to protect her from the rain and prevent it from hitting her head.
Although she kept saying she didn't want to live every day at work, she was just joking. God, please don't take it seriously. She is only 29 years old and very young.
After the thud, there was the sound of something rolling down.
Wu Siqi didn't dare go out, for fear that the object thrown from a high altitude would hit him.
"Plop." The thing fell in front of her.
What fell down was a cow cat.
What a standard shaggy face, Black Cat Sheriff.
It was covered in wounds and lay motionless on the ground. While Wu Siqi was stunned, the rain around it dyed the rain red.
Seeing this, Wu Siqi gritted her teeth and gasped. She half-crouched down with her bag in her arms and turned on the flashlight on her phone. Under the light, the cat's abdomen was slightly undulating.
"You're so lucky, little guy. You're still breathing after falling from such a height." She sighed, "Luckily you met me today."
Wu Siqi put her cell phone close to her body, took off her apricot coat and wrapped the cat. The unconscious cat was as soft as liquid. She didn't care at all that it would dirty herself, and carefully held it in her arms.
I ran all the way home in the rain. The rain became lighter and lighter, and it stopped completely when I was about to reach the unit door.
"This rain is meant for me, right? It won't stop until I get home." Wu Siqi shook off the wet hair sticking to his face and muttered to himself.
Carefully placing the injured Black Cat Sheriff on a cushion, Wu Siqi skillfully took out medical tools from a cabinet and spread them out.
Wu Siqi's house is not big, a small apartment with two bedrooms and a living room. It was left to her by her parents who passed away nine years ago. The decoration is a little old, but it is very neat and warm.
She wrapped the wet Black Cat Sheriff with a quick-drying towel and gently dried the moisture off its body. Wu Siqi wiped it while checking its wounds.
The wound on the left front paw was the most horrific. The long wound ran across the entire arm, and there were many small wounds. Fortunately, the wounds in other parts of the body did not bleed much.
"Poor little thing, it must be in a lot of pain." The more he examined its condition, the more distressing it became. Wu Siqi couldn't help but feel distressed.
Wiping away the rainwater on the fur, Wu Siqi used tweezers to hold an iodine cotton ball and carefully disinfected the wound, finally stopping at the left paw. The long wound was slightly turned outward. "This cut is too long. If I don't get stitches, it will definitely get infected."
Her medicine box has everything, including two sets of medical needles and thread.
Wu Siqi was very skilled in the operation. He gave each stitch with his bony hands holding the needle firmly without any trembling.
"Alright, perfect!"
The thin thread was wrapped around her slender index finger and she tied a beautiful bow at the stitch.
The suturing process was not short. The little black cat sheriff did not react at all. Only the slight rise and fall of his abdomen proved that he was still alive.
Even so, Wu Siqi still took out a sunflower-shaped Elizabethan collar and put it around its neck.
After packing up her things, she sat cross-legged beside the cushion where the kitten was placed, and touched its little head which had no wounds on it.
"I don't know if there are any internal injuries after falling from such a height. No veterinary clinic is open this late. I'll take a day off after the meeting tomorrow. I need to go to the hospital for an X-ray to check the condition."
Wu Siqi leaned back and lay on the floor. When she stopped working, she began to feel uncomfortable. Her clothes were wet from the rain, and an indescribable feeling surged from the bottom of her heart.
She stared at the ceiling for a while, sighed, "Oh!" She turned over, got up, took a shower and went to bed!
The sound of water splashing in the bathroom, Wu Siqi finished washing up and walked to the balcony with the dirty clothes basket in his arms. The pure white hair drying cap was still on his head, and his whole body was steaming.
"Ding", the washing machine turned twice and started to drain water, "Oh, I forgot about it." She patted her head and remembered the coat she had forgotten, the apricot coat with the cat wrapped in it.
The dirty coat was crumpled up on the living room floor. She picked it up and opened it. The oval bloodstain was particularly eye-catching. "It probably can't be washed out."
Wu Siqi took a basin, filled it with hot water, poured in bleach, and then washed it in a separate machine tomorrow morning.
Although I can’t wear it out anymore, it’s a gift from my mother and I can’t throw it away.
Poor little thing, Wu Siqi lay on the sofa on her side, half-opened her eyes, looking at the slowly rising and falling white belly. She had to stay by its side, otherwise she would not know if the kitten woke up in the middle of the night.
The little black cat sheriff's cushion was placed very close to the sofa. "Get well." Its pink pads were showing outwards, which was very cute. She wanted to reach out and pinch it, but just as she was about to reach out her hand, she pulled it back and gathered the quilt around her.
Go to sleep. I will take a day off after the meeting tomorrow, then go to the pet hospital and post the adoption information.
The most unpleasant music in the world is the ringtone set as the alarm clock, Wu Siqi said so, struggling to open her eyes. Her restless feet had kicked the quilt to the ground and pulled at the pajamas that had been pulled up to her belly.
Wu Siqi sat up lifelessly. Ah! Another busy day, no, half a day. After the meeting, I have to ask for leave to go to the pet hospital.
"Let's end the meeting here. Everyone is tired. Siqi, please revise the plan according to Mr. Qiao's requirements. Sister Jin, please inform the design team to re-produce the poster according to the new requirements. Let's adjourn the meeting."
Wu Siqi walked up to Boss Cui with a notebook in his arms, "Boss, I'm going to ask for leave. Something happened at home. I'll be back as soon as I'm done with it to work overtime on the plan."
"Again, messing with those cats and dogs?" Boss Cui said, his face full of understanding. He waved his hand helplessly, "I want the revised final plan in my mailbox at nine o'clock tomorrow morning."
"OK!"
Wu Siqi trotted back to her workstation. On the workstation, which was filled with a sense of resignation, there was only an open-mouthed ceramic water cup that seemed more down-to-earth. She put the lid on the cup, picked up the shoulder bag hanging on the back of the office chair, and strode out of the company.
Wu Siqi, the planning team leader of Group B of a large advertising company, took leave and skipped work again on a weekday.
The team members were not surprised by this. Every now and then, their team leader would take leave from work to rescue stray animals.
But there is one strange thing. Every time the team leader rescues a pet, she will send it to an adoptive family without any regrets, making it impossible to tell whether she really likes animals.
The subway is very empty during non-commuting hours on weekdays, with only a few elderly retirees and tourists dragging suitcases.
It was easy to find a seat. Wu Siqi crossed his legs and opened the green chat software, then entered a chat box with a very commercial avatar: a man in a white coat, standing sideways, with his arms folded, wearing glasses and smiling, with the note: Chen Yiming.
Wu Siqi: Are there many filming appointments today? I'll be there in about an hour.
Chen Yiming: 1
Wu Siqi: ...
1You head, forget it, if you can reply immediately, it means you are not busy. Put the phone back in your pocket.
When she got home, the little black cat sheriff was still lying on the mat, just as motionless as she was before she went to work, looking lifeless.
After carefully putting the little guy into the airline box, Wu Siqi stood at the gate of the community and took a taxi three times before he found a driver who was willing to take the pet. It was considered a smooth journey.
Driver: "Is the kitten sick?"
Wu Siqi: "Yes, I fell and was injured. I need to go to the hospital urgently. Thank you for giving us a ride. The two previous drivers cancelled my order."
Driver: "That's normal. People nowadays are afraid of trouble. My daughter also has a cat. It's not easy to raise a small animal. Alas, it's not easy for everyone. I'll leave you my phone number. If you want to take a small pet out in the future, please contact me. I'll give you the system price. How about that?"
Wu Siqi was delighted: "Okay, thank you, I'll write down your contact information."
There are still many good people in the world.
After getting off the car, the driver helped Wu Siqi take out the airline case from the trunk. Wu Siqi was flattered and bowed slightly: "Thank you, I will contact you next time if I need anything!"
"You're welcome." The driver waved his hand and returned to the cab.
"No matter how badly injured you are, you're still alive. You're worthy of having nine lives." Chen Yiming smacked his lips as he examined her. "With your skills, it's a waste of your deft hands if you don't come back to work. You sewed this much better than I could."
"You know my situation." Wu Siqi stood aside wearing a mask.
Chen Yiming paused as he examined the object. "Indeed, you've made even a materialist like me believe that there really is metaphysics in this world."
Chen Yiming took off his gloves and asked his assistant to send the little black cat sheriff for a CT scan. "The external injuries are nothing serious. You've already taken care of them. Only an X-ray can tell you what's going on with the internal organs."
Wu Siqi sat in Chen Yiming's office waiting for the results. Chen Yiming came in with two cups of coffee and said, "I haven't seen you come here much in the past six months. I thought you had changed."
"The strays I met only had minor injuries and illnesses, so I won't bother you." Wu Siqi took the coffee, took a sip, it was bitter, and put the cup back on the desk.
Wu Siqi helplessly spread his hands and said, "Your expenses are beyond the reach of a small worker like me."
Chen Yiming smiled and said, "It's not that I won't give you a discount. We are all old classmates and colleagues."
Knock knock, knock on the door.
"Doctor Chen, the results are out." The assistant nurse put the white file bag on the table and closed the door and left.
The two heads came together to look at the CT scan order.
Wu Siqi took a quick look, breathed a sigh of relief, and sat back on the stool.
Chen Yiming, "You already have the medicine, and there's nothing wrong with your internal organs. Just pay for the film at the usual price."
"Okay, let's go." Wu Siqi picked up his backpack, opened the door and prepared to leave.
"Hey, let's have dinner tonight. We haven't seen each other for a long time." Chen Yiming called her.
Wu Siqi's hand was still on the door handle. She looked back at Chen Yiming, this gentle man, and shook her head. "No, I'm short of money recently, so I can only treat you to milk tea. I'll bring you milk tea next time."
"Who cares about your milk tea!" Chen Yiming retorted unwillingly, "I'm building muscle recently and don't drink milk tea!"
The only response he got was the sound of the door closing. He pushed his glasses up on his face in frustration and sighed, "Alas."
The discounted price is not expensive and does not put too much pressure on Wu Siqi's wallet.
On the way back, she called the driver who brought her here and got home safely.
Wu Siqi carefully put the little black cat Sheriff into the cage and put on the Elizabethan collar.
Cats are animals with strong self-healing abilities. As long as their internal organs are not injured, they should wake up soon. She was afraid that they would hurt themselves if they were to move around in a too large and unfamiliar space, so it would be better to put them in a cage first.
Click, close the cage door.
Wu Siqi met a pair of clear yellow cat eyes.
