Chapter 4: Making Trouble at Home

Huang Mancang shuddered and quietly retreated, standing behind Huang Xiaomin. This old woman was truly insane, hitting anyone she could get her hands on. He glanced at the third brother in front of him, who seemed not to have made a move against him yet.

Huang Xiaomin watched with his arms crossed as his mother beat his older brother, a look of schadenfreude on his face.

Old Mrs. Wu shoved Huang Xiaoguo aside, glared at Huang Xiaomin who was watching the commotion, and indiscriminately attacked him, saying, "He's no good, and you're no good either."

"Your older brother doesn't treat his wife like a human being; he lets her ride on his head and poop and pee on him."

Huang Xiaomin rolled his eyes. "Mom, Jin'e is only thinking of me. How can you say that about her?"

Old Mrs. Wu was almost laughing in anger. "Can't I even say anything? Your sister-in-law and I take care of everything in this house, big and small. Ever since Li Jin'e married into the Huang family, has she ever cooked a single meal for your father and me?"

Upon hearing this, Huang Mancang immediately straightened up and said with a serious expression, "Your mother is right. Your wife needs to be properly managed. I have never seen such a lazy daughter-in-law. She is not even as good as your mother's one finger."

He smiled ingratiatingly at Old Lady Wu as he spoke.

Old Mrs. Wu didn't even glance at him, staring at Huang Xiaomin with an unfriendly expression, as if if he said another word, Huang Xiaoguo's face would be swollen like a pig's head, which would be his fate.

Huang Xiaomin swallowed hard, stiffly tugged at the corners of his mouth, and swallowed back the words that were about to spill out.

Before it could be quiet for even a few seconds, the commotion in the yard suddenly intensified.

"Huang Mancang, you get out here right now!"

The people inside the room were all startled. Huang Mancang recognized who it was, his body trembled, and he looked for a place to hide in fear. Just as he was about to shrink under the table, Old Lady Wu grabbed him by the collar and dragged him out.

"You two follow too."

He grabbed Huang Mancang and dragged him out of the room.

As soon as he stepped outside, Huang Mancang cowered behind Old Lady Wu. The people in the courtyard laughed loudly, "Huang Mancang, what kind of skill is it to hide behind a woman? Come out, let's have a good talk."

Huang Mancang shrank his neck and pouted, "Just say what you want to say."

Old Mrs. Wu disgustedly pulled back the hem of her clothes that had been clutched so tightly, and asked the men in the yard bluntly, "How much money does Huang Mancang owe you?"

Seven or eight families lived in the compound. Hearing the commotion in the courtyard, they couldn't suppress their curiosity and came out to hear Old Lady Wu say that her family's Huang Mancang owed money to someone.

What money do you owe?

"Exactly, Wu Mingxia earns a lot of money a month, why would he need to borrow money?"

Upon hearing this, Gao San from the courtyard had a flash in his eyes. "Huang Mancang borrowed six hundred from us over the past month. Including interest, it's a total of eight hundred."

What? ! ! !

The people in the courtyard were shocked. Eight hundred? That's more than an average family could earn in a year. What on earth did Huang Mancang do to borrow so much money?

He beats his wife at home whenever things don't go his way, but treats his uncles and aunts well in public. He's a typical bully at home, and people in the compound only care about saving face for him; they all secretly look down on him.

Poor Wu Mingxia, she takes care of the whole family inside and out, raised four sons, and married two daughters-in-law. She should be at the age to enjoy her life, but she still lives like an old woman.

Old Mrs. Wu sneered and kicked Huang Mancang in front of Zhou San, saying, "The money he borrowed has nothing to do with me. Whether you cut off his hand or his foot is up to you."

Huang Mancang, who had been kicked to Zhou San's feet, hadn't even reacted yet. When he looked up and met Zhou San's cold gaze, he felt like crying but had no tears. He cursed Old Lady Wu a thousand times in his heart. What's wrong with this old woman today?

First she poked him with scissors, then she beat her son, and now she's actually pushing him out.

Wednesday is known as a ruthless debt collector; if someone can't pay back the money, he'll use any means necessary.

“Honey, it’s just eight hundred yuan. Give it to him quickly and send him away.”

On Wednesday, she exclaimed "Oh!" and smiled knowingly, "Wu Mingxia, your man has spoken, hurry up and get the money."

Old Mrs. Wu was impatient and spoke in a bad tone, "Wu Zhou, are you deaf! Didn't you hear what I just said or what?"

On Wednesday, he raised his toe and tapped Huang Mancang's pale face, revealing his white teeth and a fierce look in his eyes. "Huang Mancang, if your wife doesn't pay, then your hands and feet are ours."

Huang Mancang's lips trembled incessantly, and his eyes kept glancing at Old Lady Wu. As soon as he opened his mouth, his voice trembled so badly that he couldn't utter a single complete sentence.

Old Mrs. Wu pulled over a small stool by the door and sat down boldly, staring at Zhou San without blinking. "Alright, you can do it now."

“Because of this old bastard, we’ve been dealing with each other for a long time. All the money I’ve spent has ended up in your hands, and now you can’t even come up with fifty, let alone eight hundred.”

"Anyway, it's the same whether he's here or not. If you're so kind, help me cripple him, so he won't have to go out and be my money-giving boy every few days."

Seeing that Old Lady Wu's expression was cold and she wasn't joking at all, Huang Mancang's anger outweighed his fear, and he pointed at Old Lady Wu and began to curse her.

"Wu Mingxia!"

Old Mrs. Wu asked calmly, "What's wrong?"

"You vicious woman! I'm your man, how dare you stand by and watch me die!"

Huang Mancang had cursed until his saliva was dry, but she didn't seem to change her mood at all. She looked up at Zhou San with a fawning smile and said, "Give me three more days, and I will definitely, definitely return all the money to you."

You can't believe a word that gambler says; he might say three days, or even three months, and it might not even happen.

"Don't give me that crap. Paying back debts is a matter of course. Even if you call the police, I'm not afraid."

On Wednesday, he kicked Huang Mancang aside, spread his arms, and arrogantly looked around. No one dared to meet his gaze.

His gaze fell on Old Lady Wu, and he paused for a moment, clicking his tongue inwardly. This old woman had changed her ways today. Before, if he threatened her even slightly, saying he would break Huang Limin's arms and legs, she would hurriedly hand him the money.

Why are you completely unmoved today?

Catching a glimpse of Huang Mancang moving stealthily, she stepped on his back. Was he not hard enough?

Huang Mancang let out a miserable cry, his limbs flailing wildly like a turtle. The more Wu Laotai looked at him, the more obvious the disgust on her face became.

Huang Xiaoguo and Huang Xiaomin felt a chill in their hearts. It seemed that their mother had really changed, which also meant that their family was indeed broke and had been squandered.

The two brothers couldn't help but show the same look of disgust on their faces. Huang Mancang shouted loudly, but when no one paid attention, he stopped and lay quietly on the ground.

The sunlight gradually climbed onto the eaves, turning the faces of the people in the yard red. Old Mrs. Wu and Zhou San faced each other in a silent standoff.

Old Mrs. Wu felt a chill in her heart. After this incident, she realized how foolish she had been to think that she could just endure it and it would pass!

Didn't they treat her that way because they thought they could put up with it?
