Chapter 294 Is Yan'er my biological son?

Wei Zhenghong and Wei Teng were both stunned.

"Mother, what do you mean by that?"

Wei Zhenghong exclaimed in astonishment, even temporarily forgetting the pain in his body.

A look of annoyance flashed across the old lady's face as she said irritably, "I misspoke. I meant to say that once he severed ties with the Wei family, he had nothing to do with them anymore. This jade disc is a family heirloom of the Wei family; it belongs to Teng'er and must not be given to outsiders."

is that so?

Wei Zhenghong was skeptical.

The old lady's tone just now didn't sound like she was severing ties; rather, she genuinely believed that Wei Yan wasn't a member of the Wei family.

This is simply ridiculous.

Yan'er is his biological daughter, how could she not be a member of the Wei family?

But as soon as the words "biological son" came to mind, he remembered Wei Yan's appearance.

To be honest, Wei Yan doesn't look like him, nor like Ning Shi, nor like his father or the old lady.

He always thought it was because he was born with a poison that affected the development of his facial bones.

But what if... he's not his son?

Wei Zhenghong's heart suddenly raced.

Although he knew he shouldn't be so suspicious, what if Madam Ning held a grudge because of his affair with Concubine Chang and had sought out other men?

When she divorced him, didn't she also say that she was tired of sleeping with him and wanted to sleep with someone else?

Once distracting thoughts arise, they can't be suppressed.

His mind was filled with thoughts of Ning Shi, and he didn't even know when the old lady, Aunt Chang, and Wei Teng left.

He didn't care when they took the jade disc away.

He just wanted to find out immediately whether Wei Yan was his son or not.

He will surely die with regrets until he understands this matter.

So he forced himself to get out of bed, called for someone to carry him to the carriage, and drove to the Jing'an Marquis's residence.

He had never been here before, and the tall lintel filled him with a sense of pride, but also with immense trepidation.

"Please tell your matriarch that the Duke of Anguo has arrived and has urgent business to discuss."

He said to the doorman.

The gatekeeper reported this to Madam Ning.

Ning frowned.

She had just refused Wei Zhenghong's private property and family heirloom when he came to find her. Did he want to persuade her to accept them?

She didn't want to see him at all.

But when she remembered that his attendant said he didn't have much time left, she was a little worried that this might be their last meeting.

Considering that they had been husband and wife for so many years and that he was ultimately Wei Yan's biological father, Ning had someone lead him to the banquet hall.

"This place is very well decorated."

As soon as Ning Shi entered the banquet hall, she heard Wei Zhenghong say this.

She smiled slightly: "Even the Duke has learned to praise people."

She had always been so meticulous in decorating the Duke's mansion, yet he had never once praised her.

After being reminded by her, Wei Zhenghong also remembered this matter and sighed inwardly.

He was truly blinded by greed before, which is why he couldn't see how good she was.

A servant brought over some tea.

Ning took a sip of tea, put down the teacup, and asked him, "Is there something you need?"

This person came empty-handed; he probably didn't come to deliver any property.

She hadn't guessed correctly.

Wei Zhenghong had the words on the tip of his tongue, but he just couldn't open them.

He was afraid that if he asked, Ning would scold him and kick him out; he was also afraid that Ning would reveal a truth that he would find hard to accept.

So he pretended to be sipping tea.

The tea had been served three times, but he still didn't say anything. Ning Shi grew impatient: "If the Duke wants to drink tea, please go to a teahouse."

He finally mustered the courage to ask, "Is Yan'er my biological son?"

Ning Shi: "???"

She almost doubted that she had heard correctly.

"What did you say?"

"Is Yan'er my biological son...?"

With a "smash!", Ning threw the teacup in her hand, tea and water, at the table.

Pointing her finger at his nose, she cursed, "Wei Zhenghong, are you out of your mind?! We're divorced and you still come here questioning my infidelity. Are you looking for trouble? Let me tell you, Yan'er isn't your biological son. Someone with a screw loose like you doesn't deserve such a good son!"

Although she said that Yan'er was not his son, Wei Zhenghong breathed a sigh of relief.

Ning was so angry that she spoke sarcastically.

"I'm sorry," Wei Zhenghong said apologetically, "I shouldn't have asked that, but if I hadn't asked, I would have driven myself crazy."

He told Ning about what had just happened at the Duke of Anguo's mansion.

"Mother's words were a denial of Yan'er's bloodline, weren't they?"

Ning sneered: "You and your son are truly of the same vicious and foolish lineage."

That old hag couldn't keep up the act anymore, so she started ruining her reputation, right?

"Only someone with shit in their eyes would see shit in everyone else. I bet nine times out of ten, she's cheating on her husband."

Wei Zhenghong: "..."

His mother is already quite old; even if she wanted to have an affair, she probably wouldn't be able to.

The more Ning thought about it, the more likely it seemed.

Generally speaking, if a child doesn't resemble their parents, they might resemble their grandparents or uncles/aunts.

However, Yan'er resembles neither a member of the Wei family nor a member of the Ning family.

She was certain the child was Wei Zhenghong's and hadn't been switched, so why didn't he resemble anyone else?

It's very possible that the old lady had Wei Zhenghong with someone else, and Wei Yan inherited that person's appearance.

She told Wei Zhenghong about this deduction and asked him, "Don't you look like your father?"

Wei Zhenghong thought she was being delusional.

"My dad and I both have square faces, and our eyebrows and eyes are quite similar."

"It could be a coincidence."

Wei Zhenghong: "..."

So you're convinced his mother cheated on him, right?

He said weakly, "Is it possible that Yan'er was switched with someone else...?"

Ning interrupted him, "You've been replaced, but Yan'er can't be replaced!"

When the child was born, she kept a close eye on him and held him to sleep every night. No one could take his place.
