"Alright, that's all for today. Let's all keep up the good work and strive to take the company's performance to the next level!" Qin Yang concluded.
"Yes, Mr. Qin!" the executives replied in unison.
Just then, Zhou Xiaomei walked into the conference room.
When she saw Qin Yang, her expression was somewhat complicated.
"Xiaomei, what brings you here?" Qin Yang asked.
"I...I'm here to give a brief report on my work," Zhou Xiaomei said.
Her voice was somewhat low, and she seemed a little absent-minded.
Qin Yang didn't think much of it and let her begin her report.
After Zhou Xiaomei finished reporting her work, she stood aside and did not leave.
Qin Yang looked at her with some surprise and asked, "Xiaomei, is there anything else?"
"No...it's nothing," Zhou Xiaomei shook her head and said.
Her eyes flickered, as if she wanted to say something but hesitated.
Qin Yang sensed something was amiss and asked, "Xiaomei, is there something you want to say to me?"
Zhou Xiaomei hesitated for a moment, then said, "Qin Yang, you...you and President Shangguan, you two..."
She didn't finish her sentence, but her meaning was clear. Qin Yang then realized that Zhou Xiaomei was troubled by his relationship with Shangguan Wan.
Qin Yang looked at her, his heart filled with mixed feelings.
He knew that Zhou Xiaomei had feelings for him.
But he couldn't accept her feelings.
Because in his heart, Shangguan Wan already existed.
"It's nothing," Qin Yang shook his head and said.
"Qin Yang, do you like President Shangguan?" Zhou Xiaomei asked, mustering her courage.
Qin Yang remained silent for a moment, then nodded.
“Yes,” he said.
Upon hearing this answer, Zhou Xiaomei's face instantly turned pale.
Her body trembled slightly, as if she were about to lose her balance.
"Xiaomei, what's wrong? You look so pale?" Qin Yang asked with concern.
"I...I'm fine. I just...I just didn't sleep well last night," Zhou Xiaomei said, forcing a smile.
"Then go and rest for a while," Qin Yang said.
"Okay." Zhou Xiaomei nodded and turned to leave the conference room.
Watching her departing figure, Qin Yang felt a pang of guilt.
He knew that he had hurt Zhou Xiaomei.
But he was powerless to do anything about it.
When it comes to matters of the heart, you can't force them.
He could only hope that Zhou Xiaomei could get over the shadow of this relationship as soon as possible.
Just then, Qin Yang's phone suddenly rang.
He picked it up and saw that it was Li Shanshan calling.
"Hey, Shanshan, what's wrong?" Qin Yang answered the phone and asked.
"Qin Yang, are you free right now? I... I've run into a little trouble and I'd like to ask you for help." Li Shanshan's voice sounded somewhat anxious.
"What's the problem? Tell me," Qin Yang said.
“It’s hard to explain over the phone, could you come over? I’m at…” Li Shanshan gave an address.
"Okay, I'll be right there," Qin Yang said.
After hanging up the phone, Qin Yang hurriedly left the company.
Although he wasn't familiar with Li Shanshan, they were classmates after all, so it wouldn't hurt to help her out.
Qin Yang drove at high speed, the navigation destination being a five-star hotel called "Golden Splendor," its gilded signboard gleaming with extravagant light under the night sky.
He parked the car and strode into the hotel lobby, where he immediately spotted Li Shanshan standing at the end of the corridor leading to the private rooms.
Li Shanshan was wearing a tight red dress, the hem barely covering her thighs, and a pair of high heels. Her usually neat ponytail was now loosely draped over her shoulders, and her face had an unnatural flush, as if she had drunk quite a bit.
She leaned against the wall, swaying slightly, her eyes glazed over, and she reeked of alcohol, completely out of place in this glittering hotel, like a rose ravaged by wind and rain.
Qin Yang strode over, and a strong smell of alcohol hit him.
"Shanshan, how are you?" Qin Yang asked with concern, his brows furrowed.
Li Shanshan looked up and saw Qin Yang. A glimmer of clarity flashed in her previously dazed eyes, as if she had grasped a lifeline.
"Qin Yang...you, you've finally come..." Li Shanshan's voice was choked with sobs, as if she had suffered a great injustice.
She staggered and almost fell, but Qin Yang quickly reached out to support her.
The skin felt slippery to the touch, damp with sweat and the smell of alcohol.
"What exactly happened? Tell me slowly." Qin Yang helped Li Shanshan lean against the wall and asked softly.
Li Shanshan took a deep breath, tried to steady herself, and began to recount the events in fits and starts.
"I...I...today...a friend...introduced me to...a rich second-generation..." Li Shanshan's speech was somewhat slurred, clearly due to the effects of alcohol.
Qin Yang listened patiently without interrupting her.
“We…we’ll meet at this hotel…for dinner…” Li Shanshan pointed to a private room not far behind her. The door to the room was closed, and she couldn’t see what was inside.
"During the meal... that person... kept urging me... to drink..." Li Shanshan's voice grew softer and softer, tinged with a sob.
"I...I feel...something's not right with him..."
“He…speaks…acts…none of what…a rich second-generation…” Li Shanshan tried hard to recall, her eyes filled with doubt and fear.
"I...I just said...I have...a boyfriend..." Li Shanshan's voice grew softer and softer until it was almost inaudible.
Qin Yang's heart sank; he had a rough idea of how things would unfold.
