Chapter 11 A Gentleman of Deep Affection

Qin Su shook his head again, "All I know is that this person is very resourceful. He is neither the eldest son nor the heir apparent in Yuehai Kingdom, yet he wields enormous power. He advocates war, and if he takes power, he will definitely be a major threat to our country."

"Is that all?" Wu Wei pressed again, feeling it couldn't be that simple.

"Not enough?" Qin Su's eyes flashed with a sharp light. On the surface, she only knew that Dengyue Tower was the strongest intelligence network in Da'an, but privately she suspected that Dengyue Tower had a connection with the royal family.

Perhaps it is the strongest card in Emperor Mingyang's hand.

The Yuehai Kingdom has always been eyeing our country covetously. If its leaders are fond of warfare, it will certainly have a significant impact on our country.

Wu Wei was stunned by Qin Su's gaze. After regaining his senses, he said dryly, "I understand. I will handle this matter."

Finally, he realized that his tone was wrong, as if he were obeying orders. The other party was not His Highness, nor his master, and he sounded like a servile person.

Qin Su suppressed her temper and nodded to him, "Thank you for your trouble, Manager Wu."

She reached out her hand to Lian Tao and left Dengyue Tower.

Wu Wei quickly returned to the room he had been in before, and sure enough, he saw that the person was still there when he passed through the screen.

Before the other party could speak, Wu Wei sat down and said, "Your Highness, Miss Qin has come to ask me to do something and investigate some information."

"Um."

After a nasal sound, there was silence, and Wu Wei felt a chill run down his spine.

That's it?

He spoke again.

"That's all." Wu Wei said, while carefully observing the man's expression.

Standing to the side, Chongyang coughed a few times, reminding Wu Wei, "What is Miss Qin here to investigate? What task has she entrusted to you?"

Wu Wei was too nervous and hadn't thought about reporting the matter in detail.

Hearing Chongyang say this, he immediately recounted everything, big and small.

But the man sitting opposite him remained silent. He felt uneasy and carefully tried to recall if he had overlooked anything.

I was only slightly relieved after confirming that there was none.

"Are you sure that's all? Did Miss Qin ask you to investigate anything about the eldest son of the Duke of Cheng's family?" Chongyang glanced at his silent master and then asked Wu Wei.

The man's sharp, assertive eyebrows furrowed slightly, but he said nothing.

Wu Wei shook his head, "Miss Qin didn't mention Young Master Xue at all."

"Hmm." With the man's voice, the tense atmosphere in the room finally eased a little.

He got up and started to walk out, but suddenly stopped. Wu Wei immediately tensed up.

"Investigate the Third Prince of Yuehai Kingdom thoroughly."

"Yes, Your Highness, rest assured."

Seeing the man walk forward again, he gently exhaled a breath of stale air, but... he stopped again.

"Your Highness?"

"She paid?"

Wu Wei nodded, still looking completely bewildered.

A hand reached out to him, and Wu Wei had a flash of inspiration, so he quickly handed over his wallet.

He was thinking to himself: Is His Highness short of money lately?

Before he could even process what was happening, something hit him in the face.

He quickly caught it, and upon closer inspection, he discovered it contained several gold ingots.

What is the meaning of His Highness giving him money?

He looked up to ask, only to see that his incomparably noble prince was carefully placing the money pouch close to his body.

Wu Wei: ?!

Are your eyes playing tricks on you?

Chongyang coughed lightly, and Wu Wei then withdrew his gaze.

But curiosity is like a writhing snake, twisting and turning, relentlessly demanding to know.

Your Highness and Miss Qin...are there something going on?

He thought that His Highness was only concerned about the Marquis of Zhongyi's residence, which made sense.

Seemingly noticing Wu Wei's gaze, he said in an unnatural tone, "A daughter's belongings should not fall into the hands of others."

Wu Wei: "..." So Your Highness, you're not an outsider?

He dared not say more and could only bend over to see the person off.

...

Guanqian Street.

"Young lady, given our current situation, do you still think we should adopt the young master?"

“Young master is well-educated and reasonable, but…” The young lady already has a child.

If a girl doesn't want to get married, then there must be a male member in the family, which is why they plan to adopt a child.

But despite saying this, the girl has never seen the child.

Qin Su ignored Lian Tao's chatter, grabbed her hand, and quickly walked into the alley.

"What's wrong?" Lian Tao still looked confused.

Qin Su stared intently at the corner to her right, where a family of three stood. This combination itself wasn't problematic; the issue was that the man was married, and the woman wasn't his wife.

"Huh? That person looks like Prince Consort Kang." Lian Tao craned her neck, looking puzzled. "The woman next to him doesn't seem to be Princess Cheng'an."

"Don't talk, just follow."

Lian Tao covered her mouth and quietly followed.

The two followed them through a maze of turns, and soon entered a courtyard.

Qin Su was about to jump onto the high wall to take a look when she quickly discovered that there were many hidden sentries around.

She whispered to Lian Tao, "You go to the school, I'll go back by myself in a bit."

After Lian Tao left, Qin Su concealed her presence and jumped onto a tree.

This is a two-courtyard house, which isn't considered expensive in the eastern part of the city.

While keeping an eye on the sentries, Qin Su observed the movements of Kang Lin and the strange woman in the courtyard. They were too far away to hear their conversation, but their behavior suggested they were quite intimate.

She frowned slightly and squatted down for a while longer.

The prince consort of Da'an could enter officialdom and hold a higher position than in the previous dynasty, but he could not take concubines and could only stay with the princess for his entire life.

In her previous life, she had never heard of Kang Lin having a mistress. This man, along with Xue Huai'an, was known as the most affectionate gentleman in the capital. He was a third-place scholar in the imperial examinations, and his family had been farmers for generations. He was also very handsome.

In retrospect, both Kang Lin's and Xue Huai'an's so-called deep affection were largely exaggerated.
