Lin Hui had just parked her car in front of the Yi family villa when she received a call from her mother, Madam Lin.
"Hey Mom, I'm at the Yi family's door. What's up?"
Mrs. Lin sounded extremely anxious on the phone, "Why didn't you ever mention to me that Xiao Bao was taken to the Yi family? If I hadn't found out from someone else today, how long were you going to keep it from me!"
Lin Hui became a little impatient when confronted with her questions.
"Mom! Is there anything I need to tell you about this? Aunt Meng taking Xiaobao home to take care of him for a while is a blessing for Xiaobao."
Madam Lin snorted coldly, showing no appreciation whatsoever.
"Do you really think I'm old and so easy to fool? Meng Jie has taken the child back, but she won't take you, the child's mother, back. Does that mean she doesn't intend to acknowledge you?"
Hearing her bluntly state this fact, Lin Hui was immediately struck where it hurt, and became even more agitated.
"Ugh! I'm not talking to you anymore! You won't understand anyway, I'm hanging up!"
Before Mrs. Lin could say anything more, she impatiently hung up the phone.
She had just hung up the phone when she looked up and saw Meng Jie's car slowly approaching and stopping in front of the Yi family villa.
Lin Hui immediately changed her demeanor, excitedly opening the car door and getting out to greet him.
"Aunt Meng!"
She had barely called out when she saw Su Yan getting out of the car right after Meng Jie, and her smile instantly froze on her face.
What are you doing here?
Meng Jie acted as if she didn't even see her, and said to the driver, "Take her back, and you don't need to come back after you do."
The driver was startled and hurriedly asked, "Mr. Meng, what did I do wrong? Please tell me, and I will definitely correct it!"
Meng Jie didn't even glance at him again, coldly replying, "What I need is just a driver, not a driver with a mouth, especially one who talks too much."
The driver's face turned deathly pale, and he couldn't utter a single word.
Lin Hui, who witnessed this scene, did not dare to say anything more.
Finally, Su Yan broke the silence.
She smiled at Meng Jie, nodded, and bowed.
"Thank you for taking care of me today, Aunt Meng. I had a very pleasant time."
At the end of her sentence, she glanced casually in Lin Hui's direction and said hesitantly, "There's also a gift, which I like very much."
Lin Hui was stunned for a moment and turned to look at Meng Jie.
Meng Jie still ignored Lin Hui, her eyes fixed on Su Yan.
After a while, she slowly opened her mouth and said, "I'm glad you like it."
Su Yan's smile deepened.
Meng Jie didn't say much. After she finished speaking, she turned to walk into the house, but stopped when she passed Lin Hui.
Lin Hui looked expectantly at her as she turned her head to look at her.
"You came to see Xiaobao, right?"
Lin Hui opened her mouth to say something, but Meng Jie interrupted her directly.
"No need to look after Xiaobao, he's at school and hasn't come back yet. You can come another time."
Her casual remark blocked all of Lin Hui's excuses to come in.
Lin Hui watched Meng Jie's merciless retreating figure, her hands clenched into fists, refusing to loosen their grip.
Su Yan turned to look at the driver, who was still immersed in the pain of losing his job and had no intention of taking her back right now.
She walked up to Lin Hui and said with a mocking tone, "Some people are really pathetic. They wag their tails and come forward, only to be turned away."
Hearing her blatant mockery, Lin Hui's face turned even uglier. She clenched her teeth, suppressing the urge to tear her apart.
"What are you so smug about? The fleeting attention you have from Aunt Meng that you have now is nothing more than a tiny fraction of what I once had. You think you can marry into the Yi family like this? Wishful thinking!"
Lin Hui spoke without any politeness, and in her excitement, her spittle almost flew onto Su Yan's face.
Su Yan wasn't angry; instead, she laughed even harder.
"I wonder who's been indulging in wishful thinking for so many years. I have a gift, do you?"
Lin Hui clenched her teeth, intentionally reminding her, "Don't forget, I'm Xiaobao's biological mother. Even if you manage to marry into the Yi family, so what? Xiaobao is in my hands, and you can't change that fact."
Hearing her words, Su Yan inexplicably sensed that Xiao Bao had become a tool for her to steal favor.
Seeing that she was silent, Lin Hui became even more smug.
“Su Yan, you can never change this fact. Xiao Bao is the eldest grandson of the Yi family, and I am Xiao Bao’s biological mother.”
Su Yan listened to her repeated emphasis on this matter and gave her a perfunctory response.
"You don't need to say that anymore. I know the rules of your Qing Dynasty, Changsun. Putting aside the fact that your Qing Dynasty has already fallen, you surely know who is in charge of the Yi family?"
Lin Hui waited in silence for her to continue.
Su Yan: "Xiao Bao is just a child after all. Even if he is the eldest grandson of the Yi family, it will take 20 years for him to have any real power. Your attempt to use him against me is only temporary. Once Aunt Meng's mind is made up, even if you have twenty grandsons, it will be of no use."
Lin Hui was driven to anger and embarrassment by her arrogant provocation.
"Don't be so arrogant. It's still uncertain who will win or lose!"
Su Yan glanced at her casually, "Then just wait and see."
Lin Hui watched her retreating figure, her back teeth grinding together.
"Su Yan, I won't let you succeed! No matter the cost, I will bring you down. What I can't have, I'd rather destroy than let you have."
