Su Yan finally finished checking the last document in her hand and stretched wearily.
I don't know what she did to offend Zhao Bo, but in the past two days at work, he has assigned her so much work that she doesn't even have a chance to get close to Yi An.
She twisted her stiff neck, walked into the break room, poured herself a cup of coffee, and finally felt better.
After she calmed down, she couldn't help but laugh at herself, wondering what she was even doing there, as if she had really come to work.
Su Yan, carrying her coffee, strolled out of the tea room and happened to run into Liu Beibei at the front desk, who was also unavailable.
The two chatted idly for a while.
"Beibei, is the company always this busy?"
Liu Beibei looked somewhat confused. "Is the company busy?"
She looked around. "Not everyone seems to be having a lot of free time."
Su Yan followed her gaze and looked around as well. Everywhere she looked, her colleagues were chatting and laughing leisurely.
It seems she's the only one too busy to even open her glue.
Could it be that Zhao Bo really has a grudge against her?
It's true what they say, speak of the devil and he appears.
Su Yan glanced over and spotted Zhao Bo approaching from behind.
He was always so dazzling, even in the messy office.
Su Yan was startled, then suddenly thought of something. She pretended not to see him and continued chatting with Liu Beibei.
"By the way, Beibei, do you know any apartments available for rent near our company?"
"Sister Yan, you need to..."
Before Liu Beibei could finish speaking, a deliberate cough came from behind her.
"Hey, what are you all doing here? Aren't you doing anything?!"
Zhao Bo, with a cold face, reprimanded him sternly.
Liu Beibei shuddered in fright and quickly lowered her head.
Su Yan turned around as if nothing had happened.
"Secretary Zhao, so you're here. I've been looking for you everywhere. All the documents have been checked. Please take a look."
Zhao Bo glanced at her suspiciously, and seeing the relaxed smile on her face, he began to have doubts.
That shouldn't be the case. He gave her all the company's documents from the past two weeks, and he finished them in the last couple of days.
On the surface, he still had to put on airs and wave his hand.
"Take me there."
Su Yan returned to her workstation and handed all the documents to Zhao Bo for review.
Zhao Bo glanced at the documents and saw that they had been categorized by urgency and type, and were neatly stacked on the cone.
He randomly picked out two books, flipped through them, and found no errors in the contents.
Wow, no wonder he's a returnee from overseas.
If it weren't for Yi'an's trickery, such a great Buddha would never have condescended to serve under him.
Zhao Bo cleared his throat twice and said in a pretentious tone, "It's alright."
Su Yan didn't expect to hear any excessive praise from him; she just wanted him to not nitpick or deliberately make things difficult for her.
Zhao Bo's eyes darted around, and he asked, "I heard you've been looking for a place to live lately?"
Su Yan pursed her lips, feigning surprise.
"Secretary Zhao, do you know of any suitable houses near the company?"
“There aren’t any near the company,” Zhao Bo said. “However, I have a good house I can recommend to you.”
Zhao Bo wasn't trying to fool Su Yan; he really did own a house, and he took Su Yan there right after get off work that day.
Zhao Bo watched Su Yan wandering around the room, a look of satisfaction occasionally appearing on her face, and slowly spoke.
"If you hadn't found a bargain, you wouldn't have been able to rent this place at all."
Su Yan walked slowly to the floor-to-ceiling window and looked down. From here, she could see the entire scenery of M City.
She turned around with a big smile, "Is the landlord really willing to rent to me at such a low price?"
Seeing that she was still hesitant, Zhao Bo immediately showed his displeasure.
"Of course, they're about to go abroad, that's why they're in a hurry to sell. Otherwise, there wouldn't be such a good deal. If you don't rent it, there are a lot of people waiting!"
Upon hearing this, Su Yan hurriedly said, "I'll rent it, I'll rent it, Secretary Zhao, don't be angry."
Zhao Bo's expression softened slightly, but he still said seriously, "Let me make it clear beforehand that this house is for a minimum of three years' rent, and you must pay a full year's rent upfront, which is non-refundable."
Su Yan glanced at Zhao Bo's expression, hesitated for a while, and then said with some difficulty, "Okay! When do we sign the contract?"
"If you're in a hurry, it can be tomorrow. Once the contract is signed, you can move in immediately."
Su Yan nodded in satisfaction, then turned back to admire the beautiful scenery of M City.
"It's worth renting this house for three years."
Zhao Bo listened to her muttering to herself and almost burst out laughing.
What good is a master of love who wins every battle?
It all came down to his acting skills!
As he smugly smiled, Su Yan's lips slowly curled upwards.
The contract was signed smoothly, and the house was fully furnished, so there was no need to buy anything else.
Since Su Yan didn't have much luggage, she moved in that same day.
After tidying her clothes and getting familiar with the new environment, Su Yan took her pajamas and went into the bathroom.
After a refreshing hot bath, she felt completely relieved of her fatigue.
After taking a shower, she was just about to prepare a delicious dinner for herself when, before she even reached the kitchen, all the lights in the house suddenly went out.
Suddenly, the room was plunged into deathly darkness.
The only light came in through the floor-to-ceiling windows, but it was still not enough for Su Yan to see clearly inside the room.
She groped her way toward the living room.
Before leaving, the landlord left an emergency contact number, saying it was a relative in China who could be contacted at any time if there were any problems.
She casually placed the note on the living room table, not having had time to put it away yet.
After she received the note, she dialed the number using the light from her phone.
The phone rang for quite a while before it was answered.
"Hey, who are you?"
It was a man's voice, and it sounded strangely familiar.
Su Yan paused for a moment, took out her phone, checked the number again, and then continued speaking into the phone: "Hello, I'm the tenant who rented the apartment today. For some reason, the power suddenly went out. Could you come over and take a look?"
Upon hearing her identify herself on the phone, the person on the other end agreed without hesitation.
"Wait a moment, I'll be right there."
Su Yan hung up the phone and stared at her phone screen quietly until it went dark.
After much thought, she finally remembered who that familiar male voice belonged to.
Yi An.
A landlord urgently leaving the country, a three-year rental contract, and a mysterious power outage on the first day—all these became pretexts for intentionally striking up a conversation.
The door slammed shut outside, followed by the sound of unhurried footsteps.
"Knock knock knock".
There was a knock on the door.
Su Yan walked slowly to the door, gently opened it, and looked at the familiar face in front of her with just the right amount of surprise.
"Mr. Yi, it's you!"
