"This is a golden opportunity!" Night Owl thought.
He asked, feigning concern:
"Sir, such an important project must be heavily guarded, right?"
The soldier said smugly:
"Of course! Our Lord Jin has sent..."
Before the soldier could finish speaking, Night Owl suddenly interrupted him, saying with a worried expression:
"Sir, I've heard that bandits have been roaming the area recently. You'd better be extra careful!"
The soldier immediately said proudly.
"They're just bandits, they're scared to death!"
"Sir, you are truly remarkable! I admire you!"
Night Owl continued his flattery, while asking:
"What's the situation with the guards around here? Is there anything I should be aware of?"
The Javanese soldier said smugly:
"Our Javanese warriors are all heroes who can take on ten men at once! The defenses around here are impregnable."
"Not even a fly could get in, let alone a person!"
Night Owl chuckled inwardly; this guy's boasting was practically out of this world.
He continued, following the soldier's words:
"Which routes does the sir usually patrol? I'll be able to avoid them in the future so as not to offend the sir."
The owl rubbed his hands together, asking with a fawning expression, while secretly plotting:
Once I blow up your dam, let's see what you'll be patrolling for!
Upon hearing this, the Javanese soldier immediately puffed out his chest and proudly declared:
"Our patrol route is top secret; I don't tell just anyone about it!"
Upon hearing this, Night Owl realized that the silly boy was about to take the bait!
He quickly added more firewood, took out a few pieces of silver from his pocket, stuffed them into the soldier's hand, and said:
"Sir, this is just a small token of my respect, nothing more than my humble offering to you."
The soldier weighed the silver in his hand, his eyes narrowing into slits with a smile, and said:
"Since you're so understanding, I'll tell you, but you absolutely mustn't tell anyone else!"
