Chapter 195 Obtaining Intelligence Through Deception

Seeing this, the disguised soldiers were all filled with righteous indignation.

His fists were clenched so tightly that his nails dug deep into his flesh.

"These beasts! One day I will tear them to pieces!"

A disguised special forces soldier cursed under his breath, his voice trembling slightly with anger.

Shh! Keep your voice down, don't give us away.

"It's owl," the night owl whispered a reminder.

"Remember our mission, and be sure to control your emotions."

Upon reaching the breached dam, Night Owl and the others dispersed.

They secretly contacted the people who had been conscripted by Java to repair the collapsed dam.

They pretended to chat casually, cautiously trying to find out what the people were thinking.

Seek out those who are dissatisfied with the rule of Java.

The owl found a middle-aged man who was moving stones.

He was dressed in rags, thin, and his forehead was covered in sweat.

The owl asked casually:

"Brother, this job is really tiring. Those Javanese are really going too far!"

The middle-aged man sighed and said in a low voice:

"Who can argue with that? We work from dawn till dusk every day, we don't have enough to eat or wear, and we get beaten up for the slightest mistake."

"Ugh, this is unbearable!"

Seeing his low spirits, Night Owl pressed his advantage and continued:

"Brother, are you really willing to be enslaved by them like this?"

"Don't you want to fight for yourself and your family a chance to live?"

The middle-aged man looked up, a glimmer of hope flashing in his eyes, but it quickly dimmed again, and he said helplessly:

"But we are unarmed, how can we fight back against them? They have knives and guns."

The owl smiled mysteriously and whispered:

"Don't worry, we've already prepared the weapons, they're hidden in..."

Just as the night owl was about to reveal the location where the weapons were hidden.

Suddenly, a sharp voice broke their conversation.

"Who are you people? What are you doing sneaking around like this!"

A burly Javanese soldier, holding a spear.

He pointed at the owl and the middle-aged man and shouted loudly.

The feathers on his helmet trembled slightly in the wind, and his face showed suspicion.

Night Owl thought to himself, "This is bad. It seems our operation has been discovered."

He quickly glanced around.

They discovered that several Javanese soldiers were surrounding them, their weapons gleaming coldly.

As more and more Javanese soldiers surrounded him, Night Owl broke out in a cold sweat.

He acted decisively, giving the middle-aged man a wink, his eyes seeming to say:

"Brother, you should retreat first!"

The middle-aged man was quick-witted and immediately understood.

Before the encirclement was completely closed, they took off running and disappeared in the blink of an eye.

Seeing this, the Javanese soldiers were not about to let him go, and immediately started shouting loudly, making a move to give chase.

Seeing this, Night Owl quickly put on a shameless act and stood in front of the soldier.

With a fawning smile plastered on his face, he spoke in broken Javanese:

"Sir, don't chase him. He's a coward who knows nothing."

"I apologize for startling you, sir!"

As he spoke, Night Owl pulled a heavy bag of silver from his pocket.

He handed it to the soldier and continued:

"It's just a small token of my appreciation, please accept it, sir. Consider it as buying some wine for the brothers; this weather is terribly cold."

The soldier weighed the silver in his hand and a satisfied smile appeared on his face.

His tone softened, and he spoke in Javanese:

"You're smart to know what's good for you! Be more careful next time, and don't sneak around like that again. If our boss sees you, things won't be so easy for him!"

The owl nodded and bowed repeatedly, like a quail.

Taking advantage of the soldiers' good mood, Night Owl's eyes lit up and a plan came to mind.

He decided to strike while the iron was hot and extract more information from the Javanese soldier.

He rubbed his hands together, pretending to look on with admiration.

He moved closer to the soldier and said in even more obsequious Javanese:

"Sir, you are truly wise and brave, a veteran general who has seen many battles! My admiration for you is like a surging river, never-ending..."

The soldier, feeling lightheaded by the owl's breath, puffed out his chest and almost raised his chin to the sky.

Taking advantage of the opportunity, the owl pointed to the collapsed dam and asked:

"Sir, how is the dam construction going? I'm very curious about the engineering techniques involved. Could you please give me some pointers?"

As he spoke, Night Owl secretly pulled out another small bag of silver from his pocket and stuffed it into the soldier's hand.

"It's just a small token of my appreciation, please accept it, sir."

The soldier weighed the silver in his hand, his smile widening even further.

"Of course, of course!"

The soldier waved his hand and began to give a long and detailed introduction.

It's as if he's the chief designer of this project.

"This was personally ordered to be built by our Lord Jin, so of course it has to be done to the best of our ability! We used thousand-year-old black iron and ten-thousand-year-old diamond, plus..."

The soldier spoke eloquently, his spittle flying everywhere.

As the owl listened, he nodded in agreement, but inwardly he was ranting and raving:

"Millennial black iron? Ten-thousand-year-old diamond? You must have heard this from a storybook my elders told, right?"

The soldier continued to boast:

"The dam will be finished in less than a month! Then let's see how arrogant those monkeys from Datong will be!"

The owl listened silently, but was secretly overjoyed.

From the soldiers' descriptions, he learned that the dam repairs were progressing more slowly than expected.

Moreover, the defense was relatively lax, with the main force concentrated on the front, leaving the rear defenses weak.
