Chapter 1053 The True Ending – Author's Closing Remarks

They all took off their helmets, forcefully pulled out the wires embedded in the back of their heads, casually tossed the heads aside, and sighed deeply.

His face was ashen, and his heart was ashen.

It failed.

"We failed."

The method of creating parallel worlds and having players play through them to harvest energy using the Hastur virus did not succeed.

The Hastur virus never returned, and they had no time to wait.

Tomorrow, the world will run out of its last energy.

Power outage, water outage.

Perhaps the laboratory can still be sustained for a while using some of the stored energy.

But the situation has already changed.

The end of the world has truly come.

Some people have already started to give up on themselves, cursing and swearing until they have no strength left, and until nothing changes.

Some people even grabbed chairs and smashed the screen of the experimental computer.

*Snap, bang.*

Sizzle sizzle sizzle—

Arcs of electricity flickered, and sparks flew.

After all, everyone is afraid of dying.

The prolonged pressure eventually weighed on everyone.

Disappointment, anger, depression

It erupted at this moment.

At the same time, the doors of the mechanical elevator in the distance opened automatically.

Buzz—bang.

Two women walked out from among them.

A man wearing a black trench coat, with short black hair and leather boots, had a blank expression.

She put her hands in her pockets and quickly walked out of the elevator.

The other one was wearing a black suit and had a pair of pointed ears on his face.

She wore a dagger and a stun gun at her waist, and her half-covered face made it impossible to see her true appearance.

She stood behind the dark-haired woman, like a bodyguard.

Some researchers couldn't help but tear up and their breathing became heavy when they saw the woman in the black trench coat.

Some even rushed forward, swinging their arms back as if to deliver a powerful punch to the woman's face.

"Victoria! It's all your fault!"

"If you hadn't proposed this plan, how could we have failed so miserably!"

Just as he was about to move closer, the woman in the suit behind him was about to take a step forward.

But the woman in the trench coat gently stopped him with a look.

Then, she reached out and grabbed the researcher's arm.

With a spinning over-the-shoulder throw, he slammed the crazed researcher to the ground.

Bang!

With a deep, muffled thud, the researcher immediately felt dizzy and collapsed to the ground, losing consciousness.

At that moment, everyone calmed down.

No one dared to make a move; they stood obediently in place, watching the woman.

"A weak mechanical body thinks it can outperform my well-trained human body?"

Victoria sneered, completely ignoring the researcher who had just been knocked unconscious.

I looked up again and focused my gaze on everyone in front of me.

"Each of you has actually had the hope of surviving."

"There are many ways to obtain energy: steam, electricity, and human labor."

"But you humans have chosen the most foolish means."

She took a deep breath, gave a cold laugh, and said in a chilling voice:

"To make life easier and avoid hard work, they collected all the energy from nature."

"It is because of your actions that nature has ceased to regenerate, leading to the extinction of the elves."

"It also led to the destruction of yourselves and the entire world."

"Now, all your failures are your own fault."

"Laziness and disregard for nature are the key to the end of the world."

People were stunned by what they were told, and some even lowered their heads, looking at the floor with remorse on their faces.

But some people blushed, feeling that Victoria was spouting fallacies and misleading people.

They stepped forward, pointed their fingers at her nose, and angrily shouted:

"Who gives you the right to talk about us!"

“Even if you didn’t first propose Project Hastur, you still contributed a large part to it.”

"The end of the world will not only kill us, but you will too!"

He seemed to want to see fear on the other person's face, but he was disappointed.

"So what? If you die, you die."

Victoria shrugged, appearing completely indifferent.

“I’ve lived long enough that, according to my age, each of you should call me an ancestor.”

Upon hearing this,

Those present were taken aback and filled with confusion.

They never expected Victoria to say such a thing.

But upon closer inspection, they all looked terrified.

It seems like decades have passed.

They had never seen any wrinkles on Victoria's face.

She has always been young, and will always be young.

It has never changed.

Despite advanced technology, there are still ways to stay young forever.

But lifespan can never be exceeded.

Victoria, how long have you been in this lab?

She existed since the first batch of experimenters were still alive, and now, as the world is about to end, she is still alive.

This is absurd in itself.

"Well, good, you've successfully killed me."

Victoria raised an eyebrow and smiled happily.

"My ability to live a long life lies in nature. As long as nature exists, I will not die."

"But... as you can see, with the lack of energy, humanity has officially declared the depletion of nature."

"My life has come to an end."
