"Go in, human."
"I'll be waiting for you inside."
The moment that dry and light voice rang out, the entire soul turned into a wisp of black smoke and dissipated in the air.
Erica stared intently at the vanished Grim Reaper, momentarily lost in thought.
It wasn't until the smoke completely dissipated that Victor's voice finally rang out from Erica.
"It is Thanatos, the god who carries the souls of the dead."
He paused for a moment, then added:
"Not as good as Hermes."
Victor refers to the status of this god.
But upon hearing this, Erica felt much more at ease.
What? This Grim Reaper isn't even as good as Hermes?
In Erica's eyes, the god Hermes was utterly weak.
Since Professor Victor said so, it's clear that this Grim Reaper named Thanatos is just bluffing.
Now, Erica is always by Victor's side, and her horizons are gradually becoming broader.
What kind of people did you interact with before?
Most of them were peers and powerful elders.
And now?
She encountered nothing but gods and ghosts; she even witnessed her own body undergo an epic battle.
This experience made her straighten her back even more.
"It's probably coming for me, so there's no need to worry too much."
Victor's words reassured Erica.
If anything happens, Professor Victor will be there to handle it!
And so, under the watchful eyes of two undead soldiers who still looked on with adoration, Erica slowly walked into the Copper Castle.
The two soldiers watched Erica's retreating figure.
Only after she had walked away did they look at each other and couldn't help but exclaim in admiration:
"Even the Grim Reaper himself came to open the door for her, that's amazing."
"Not only that, I've also heard that many ghosts have seen her chatting and laughing with Lord Hades."
"I heard that Lord Hades was so happy last time that his beard caught fire."
"An unimaginably lofty position..."
...
As soon as Erica stepped into the darkness, she felt a bone-chilling cold creep up her skin.
Within this bronze fortress, there seemed to be a vast new space hidden.
She looked around and up at the sky, but could not see any end.
Unlike the prison she had imagined, there were no rooms made of steel, nor were there any wailing souls imprisoned here.
Instead, in this vast space, there was only deathly silence and suffocating darkness.
Erica continued deeper into Copper Castle, and with each step she took, the surroundings gradually brightened.
When she arrived at the center of the copper fortress, she discovered that she was standing on a huge disc.
Peng!
Suddenly, a dull thud came from the air.
A phantom figure draped in tattered black clothes reappeared on this land.
A thick cloud of smoke rose from all around, startling Erica.
The thick smoke rose from all around, giving Erica a huge fright.
But the other person politely bowed to Erica and even apologized.
"I'm so sorry, I startled you."
"Please allow me to introduce myself. I am Thanatos, the god of death who guides the souls of the dead into the underworld."
The souls of those who die in the human world will unconsciously sink into the earth.
At this moment, Thanatos will act as a ferryman for the dead, leading them into the underworld.
Otherwise, those lost souls might have been eaten as snacks by Cerberus.
But Thanatos hasn't had much time lately to lead the souls of the dead to the gates of Hell.
"Because of you, I have recently been capturing some 'special souls' in various areas of the underworld."
As it spoke, it pulled a long scythe from its cloak.
As it moved, a cloud of smoke suddenly billowed out of the surrounding dark space.
Bang!
As the sound rang out, a cage made of steel appeared in front of Erica.
Imprisoned in the iron cage was a grotesque, wailing mass of crimson ghosts.
It was even opening its mouth wide, roaring at Erica incessantly.
Erica felt uncomfortable upon seeing this and took two steps back.
Suddenly, Thanatos swiftly swung his scythe.
In an instant, a chilling, pale light flashed through the space, instantly severing and destroying the crimson ghost.
Erica was taken aback by this.
She didn't even see the slash just now, it was so fast.
This Grim Reaper's fighting strength doesn't seem... as weak as Professor Victor said...
But soon, the wisp of soul began to coalesce again and resurrected in the iron cage.
This made Erica forget Thanatos's performance just now, and she was dumbfounded.
Seeing this, Thanatos began to explain:
"They have no consciousness, no origin, cannot be eliminated, and will resurrect again and again."
Do you have any clues?
Uh... a clue?
Erica had no clue whatsoever; she only remembered that these wandering souls seemed to be connected to Hermes.
At that time, Hermes summoned a huge mechanical iron gate.
It was filled with a whole bunch of these dead souls.
After that, all she did was put on Professor Victor's trench coat, set it on fire, and burn it down.
Seeing that Erica remained silent, Thanatos did not press further, but instead swung his scythe again.
As he moved, the deep smoke completely enveloped the iron cage before slowly dissipating.
