The three spaceships were flying incredibly slowly. Their speed was like that of a balloon, only slightly faster than walking. It took a full three hours for the three spaceships to finally float above the Qiongfeng Pass.
Just one glance down was enough to send chills down Jiang Hao's spine.
Below the spaceship, beyond the desolate pass, the entire northern ice plain was densely covered with white, skeletal monsters. They were devoid of flesh and blood, needed no breath, and remained undistracted; their goal was clear: to advance towards the desolate pass. They wielded various weapons, their steps steady, like those of precise instruments.
If the skeletons on the northern ice plains exude a chilling aura, then the canyon where the desolate peaks are located presents a completely different scene. Skeletons, shoulder to shoulder, huddle together, writhing, crowding, and shoving on the ground, like a white mudslide, determined to break through the desolate peaks in the canyon.
Where did all these skeletons come from?
Jiang Hao was genuinely alarmed.
With a deafening boom, a shell exploded amidst the horde of skeletons, instantly pulverizing dozens and creating a large crater in the ground. Some skeletons around the crater had their legs broken by flying rocks and crawled along, gripping the stones with their hands; others had their heads smashed off and advanced with empty chests. Moments later, the crater, which had revealed black rock, was once again covered by a dense mass of white skeletons.
There was no aerial dock at Qiongfeng Pass, but to Jiang Hao's surprise, two spaceships had already docked on the inner side of the city wall on the west side of Zhongfeng Pass. The three spaceships from Jinling City lined up and stopped on the inner side of the western section of the city wall, just enough to occupy all the remaining space.
As soon as the spaceships came to a stop, squads of soldiers quickly boarded the decks of the three ships and began unloading supplies. The city walls were wide, about 20 meters long, enough for several cars to run off side by side.
Jiang Hao disembarked and looked towards the outside of the city wall.
Some soldiers could be seen listlessly drawing their longbows and shooting arrows at the skeletons outside the wall. Others held spears, occasionally thrusting them at the skeletons climbing over the wall. Still others were lifting stones from the wall, raising them high above their heads, and throwing them forcefully down the wall.
Seeing their listless and exhausted appearance, Jiang Hao instantly realized they were out of energy. Back when he, along with the city lord of Jinling and several guards, went to the energy crystal mine to fight the alien beasts, after a long and intense battle, the guards' performance was exactly the same as the soldiers on these city walls.
They clearly need to eat, so why hasn't the corps commander arranged for the soldiers to rotate shifts?
Looking at the soldiers who boarded the spaceship and were busy unloading cargo, they were all pale-faced and walked with unsteady steps. If they carried even a little bit of weight, their bodies would start to sway, as if they had been sucked dry by the White Bone Demon for three days and three nights.
The soldiers here are even hungrier than those soldiers!
What's even more chilling is that the soldiers' eyes have lost all desire to win. They are like walking corpses beneath the city walls, mechanically going about their tasks, waiting for death to come.
This scene made Jiang Hao's heart pound with fear.
Holy crap, the skeleton army that swept across the entire northern ice plains was actually stopped by soldiers with this level of combat power?
Out of curiosity, Jiang Hao walked over to see what was happening outside the city walls. A general in dark armor approached from the other side of the walls, followed by two guards. Jiang Hao had heard the city lord of Jinling City mention that this general should be the commander of the Nok Legion at Qiongfeng Pass.
"Is that the commander of the Nok Legion?"
The other person remained silent and unresponsive, as if they hadn't heard Jiang Hao's words.
"Damn it, is it even worth wasting time moving this garbage sent from Jinling City?"
Nock finally looked at Jiang Hao.
"And what are you? Are you some kind of idiot sent by the city lord of Jinling?"
After he finished speaking, surprisingly, there was no laughter on the entire city wall.
Upon hearing this, Jiang Hao's anger flared instantly. However, for the sake of the Archmage's skill book, Jiang Hao gritted his teeth and forcefully suppressed his anger.
Composing himself, Jiang Hao was about to speak when a soldier ran over to him.
"Reporting to the Legion Commander, reinforcements from Northern Might Fortress and Fearless Fortress have arrived. Would you like to go and take a look?"
"Lead the way."
The Nok Legion Commander shouted in his rough voice and then strode towards the eastern city wall.
Jiang Hao wanted to call him back, but being unfamiliar with the area, he worried about disturbing important military affairs. However, he reconsidered; what could be more important than the supplies for Jinling City? Turning back, he saw that Commander Nok had already walked several steps ahead. Glancing at the guards still busy unloading, Jiang Hao decided that calling him back now wasn't so crucial. He then followed them to the west to take a look.
"Commander Xiong Bei of Beixiong Fortress greets the Legion Commander. I have been ordered to bring 800 guards and 800 boxes of frozen dried fish and meat."
"Why are there only so few people here?"
Legion Commander Nok looked displeased.
"Your Beixiong Fortress is the closest, yet it still took you three days to arrive. Are all the people of Beixiong women?"
Xiong Bei's face turned bright red with embarrassment at the legion commander's words.
"Reporting to the Legion Commander, the Northern Might Fortress is under attack by a large number of Skeleton Legion soldiers, and the battle is becoming increasingly fierce. Our Legion Commander has no choice but to send 800 guards to reinforce Qiongfeng Pass. However, 800 boxes of dried fish and meat are all we have in stock."
After listening to the commander's explanation, Nock remained silent, his face revealing neither joy nor anger.
"Where is Dauntless Fortress? What did your legion commander send me?"
On the ship of the Dauntless Fortress, a commander ran nervously to Nok and knelt down on one knee.
"Reporting to the Legion Commander, the Dauntless Fortress has sent 1,200 warriors and 1,200 boxes of various kinds of dried meat."
Before Nok could get angry, the commander quickly began to explain.
"Please investigate, Commander. Today, a large number of ferocious beasts are gathering towards the Dauntless Fortress in the Thousand Peaks Mountains. The military intelligence department has confirmed that the Skeleton Legion has entered the Thousand Peaks Mountains from the northern ice plains. They will arrive at the Dauntless Fortress soon. This support for the Qiongfeng Pass is already the limit of what we can do for the Dauntless Fortress."
Jiang Hao was puzzled.
Holy crap, why are there skeleton legions everywhere in just one day?
Nok's face was grim, as if he were about to burst into tears. His fists were clenched tightly, and his arms were trembling slightly. Just when Jiang Hao thought he was about to explode, Nok took three deep breaths and actually laughed.
"Alright, thank you for your hard work, both commanders. The situation here is urgent, so please take care of it and direct the guards to unload the supplies from the spaceship as soon as possible."
The two commanders relaxed and breathed a sigh of relief.
Surprisingly, the most hot-tempered commander of the Nok Legion did not lose his temper this time, which was truly unexpected.
Just as the two were about to stand up, they suddenly heard someone shouting from the air.
"The Zhenyuan Legion has arrived to provide reinforcements. Commander Zhen Nantian has brought 50,000 soldiers and 80,000 boxes of rice and flour. Unrelated spaceships near the city wall, please make way immediately."
Jiang Hao looked up at the sky and saw eight spaceships, each the size of a basketball court, slowly approaching.
