Chapter 88 Are the people from Jinling trash?

Upon hearing that 50,000 soldiers of the Zhenyuan Legion had arrived, the commander of the Qiongfeng Pass Legion was overjoyed. However, upon seeing that three of the Jinling City's airships had occupied positions inside the city walls, his joy immediately turned to anger.

"You trash from Jinling City, get out of the way of the Zhenyuan Legion!"

"Don't you dare hogging the toilet without doing your business."

Jiang Hao's temper flared up instantly.

Holy crap, does he have some kind of prejudice against Nanjing?

We're both legion commanders, and I haven't even settled the score with him for calling me a fool. And now this guy is still being so rude. Does he think I'm easy to bully just because I'm a lone commander?

Furthermore, within three days, Jinling City has sent 100,000 guards and 4,000 personal guards to support Qiongfeng Pass. Does the sacrifice of these soldiers only deserve a word of trash from Commander Nok?

This time, Jiang Hao decided not to indulge him.

Jiang Hao glanced at the soldiers around him. Some were pale-faced and resting at the base of the wall, while others stood by the city wall, their hands trembling as they occasionally fired an arrow outwards. They wore uniform gray armor, making it impossible to tell whether they were garrison troops at Qiongfeng Pass or soldiers sent to reinforce from Jinling City.

Looking at the westernmost section of the city wall, the soldiers who disembarked from the North Xiong Fortress airship stood on the top of the wall, looking around as if they were tourists. A little to the east were the soldiers who disembarked from the Dreadnought Fortress airship; although they weren't as lax as the soldiers from the North Xiong Fortress, they weren't much better off.

Where are the imperial guards of Jinling City?

Jiang Hao suddenly shouted, drawing the attention of everyone in the Zhenyuan Legion—those on the city wall, the west side of the city wall, several ships that were busy unloading cargo, and the eight ships that had not yet docked in the sky—to him.

With a clang, the airship docked in the very center of the city wall at Zhongfeng Pass had its cabin door suddenly pushed open from the inside, and squads of guards clad in white armor filed out. Their formation was impeccable, their steps firm and powerful; the 1,000 guards, arranged in rows of four, stood neatly atop the broad, thick city wall, as if awaiting Jiang Hao's inspection.

"The Jinling Imperial Guards are here!"

The roar of over a thousand guards was deafening. Their chilling aura drew the attention of the surrounding soldiers.

"Did the city lord give any instructions before we came?"

Jiang Hao walked up to one of his bodyguards and asked loudly.

"Reporting to the Legion Commander, no!"

The guard answered with a firm and resounding voice. Some of the soldiers watching the spectacle couldn't help but laugh out loud.

Jiang Hao smiled and nodded to the guard. Then he shook his head and took a few more steps forward.

Do you know why you were sent here?

"Returning to the commander, the pass at Qiongfeng is in grave danger."

The guard closest to Jiang Hao shouted loudly. Caught off guard, Jiang Hao was startled and quickly took a step to the side. The surrounding soldiers who were watching the commotion burst into laughter.

"Then let me ask you again, what gives you the right to be here?"

The guard thought for about five or six seconds before remembering how to answer.

"There is no way to retreat from here. Your subordinate is willing to live and die with Qiongfeng."

This answer surprised Jiang Hao, who looked at the guard with astonishment.

“My father died here the day before yesterday. My elder brother died here yesterday. Before we came, the city lord told me that all the resources Jinling City could muster have been brought here. If we cannot defend this place, the entire kingdom will be destroyed. No one will be spared.”

The guard's voice was loud and clear, carrying far through the crowd; Jiang Hao could even hear the echoes coming from the mountain walls on both sides.

The laughter and noise around them began to stop, and only the sounds of soldiers unloading cargo could be heard from the five airships docked by the city wall.

Jiang Hao took a step back and shouted loudly at his personal guard of 1,000 men.

"What right do you have to stand here?"

Thousands of guards shouted in unison again, their voices soaring into the sky.

"There is no way to retreat from here. Your subordinate is willing to live and die with Qiongfeng."

Jiang Hao saw that the guards standing on the western city wall all involuntarily shrank back. Several soldiers took advantage of the moment when no one was paying attention and quickly took a few steps back to stand on the spaceship, as if they would lose their lives if they fought on the city wall for even a second longer.

This scene made even the commander of the Nok Legion wipe his forehead to hide the lost luster on his face.

Above the Central Pass, Zhen Nantian, the commander of the Zhenyuan Legion, stared curiously at Jiang Hao and the thousand guards in front of him. If he had been somewhat arrogant when he first arrived at the Central Pass, he had now finally encountered an opponent force that he could look at on equal terms.

Although the team only had a thousand people, and their leader was just a level 13 adventurer whom they had never met before.

Jiang Hao nodded to his personal guards, then turned to look at the stunned Nok Legion Commander.

"Commander Nok, should the Jinling airship move aside?"

"No, no, that's not necessary, that's not necessary!"

After hesitating for a moment, the Nok Legion Commander finally asked a question.

"I still want to ask, what exactly did Jinling City send as reinforcements this time?"

"If it's just some torn socks, tattered clothes, and rotten vegetable leaves, I think we shouldn't waste any more time loading and unloading it."

"Why?"

Jiang Hao was completely baffled by what he said.

"What's going on with this... rotten vegetable leaf?"

"It's just rotten vegetable leaves. Oh, it looks like leftover food mixed with a bunch of torn socks and tattered clothes. A whole box of it. This is the last batch of supplies that Jinling City sent. It disgusted me to death."

At this point, the Nok Legion Commander's eyes turned bloodshot, and his clenched fists trembled once more.

Holy crap, this is outrageous!

Someone must have switched the supplies!

Upon recalling the law enforcement team captain named Hong Yu, Jiang Hao instantly realized who had done this.

Besides Hongyu, who else is capable, daring, and competent to do this?

Thinking of this, Jiang Hao was still a little uneasy, so he quickly gave the order.

"Jinling Imperial Guards, heed my command!"

"Your subordinate is here!"

"Immediately inspect the supplies on the three ships, and report any abnormalities immediately."

"yes!"

Fortunately, the supplies on the three large ships were all intact and hadn't been replaced with tattered socks and rotten cabbages. Jiang Hao breathed a sigh of relief.

"May I ask, Commander Jiang, what exactly was transported from Jinling City this time?"

"Oh, the first spaceship is filled with all sorts of standard weapons and armor."

Jiang Hao noticed that Nock's expression was rather grim. He wondered if these weapons were simply useless on the battlefield?

"Oh right, there are also ten boxes of gold coins."

The Nok Legion Commander's expression finally improved a little.

"The third spaceship was equipped with 100 city defense cannons and 100 city defense crossbows, but they were all disassembled and installed separately."

The Nok Legion Commander grasped Jiang Hao's hands with both of his.

"Commander Jiang, is this true?"

"Are you sure you're not lying to me?"
