Chapter 17 Weak Legs
On the third day, the monthly exam papers were graded, and the results were announced in the afternoon.
Gu Zhaodi is extremely nervous right now, and she has been absent-minded all afternoon.
Exam results are very important to her; they are not only a requirement she sets for herself, but also a way for her not to let down her sponsors.
Uncle Dan was unaware of her identity, but she still didn't want him to feel that he had sponsored the wrong person.
"Zhaozhao, let's go to the supermarket! We just got some new snacks." Guan Xiang hurriedly returned from outside the classroom.
"A move? A move?"
"Huh?" The girl's eyes were glazed over.
"What's wrong with you? Why are you staring blankly?" Guan Xiang asked.
"It's nothing, what do you want from me?"
Seeing that she didn't say anything, Guan Xiang didn't ask any further. "Let's go to the supermarket to buy some snacks."
"good."
On the way, Guan Xiang excitedly talked about the interesting things she had seen outside. When she turned around, she saw Zhao Zhao staring blankly into space.
"Are you really alright?" Guan Xiang tugged at Gu Zhaodi's hand.
The girl pursed her bright red lips and hesitated before asking, "Xiangxiang, if you help someone but they can't repay you in the same way, will you be disappointed?"
Guan Xiang thought for a moment, "I won't. I do good deeds not for reward."
She sensed that Zhao Zhao's words were implied. "Zhao Zhao, what do you want to ask?"
“It’s just…” the girl said, her eyes lowered and her voice trembling with anxiety, “I’m afraid Uncle Dan will be disappointed in me.”
Guan Xiang didn't know how to explain it; this was a hurdle in her heart.
Does Uncle Dan know that you are the child he sponsors?
The girl shook her head. "He probably doesn't know. I didn't tell him."
"Why didn't you tell him?" Guan Xiang asked curiously, as Zhao Zhao wasn't the type of girl who liked to hide things.
The girl pursed her lips and slowly said, "I don't know how to bring it up, and I'm afraid my grades aren't good enough and I'll disappoint him."
Guan Xiang put her arm around the girl's thin shoulders and comforted her, "Zhao Zhao, I believe Uncle Dan is not that kind of person. He won't impose his ideas on the people he sponsors."
"Charity is selfless. If you do well, he will be happy for you. If you don't do well, the effort you put in is the best reward."
Looking at the girl in front of her, who was filled with endless anxiety, she didn't know how to better guide her. Perhaps only time would make her understand.
"Okay, let's not think about this for now." Guan Xiang decided to distract her. "Let's hurry to the supermarket, or we'll run out of new snacks."
Turning anxiety into appetite is also a good thing.
Perhaps it was Guan Xiang's words at noon that made the girl think seriously, because Gu Zhaodi's mind clearly calmed down in the afternoon.
"Everyone come quick, the results are out!" Ji Hao posted the report card on the classroom bulletin board.
A group of students swarmed around the report card, looking for their names.
The girl's palms were sweaty, her legs felt slightly weak, and she wanted to stand up and go to the bulletin board in front of her, but then she hesitated.
"Zhao Zhao, why aren't you going to look?" Guan Xiang asked, looking at the girl who was staring intently at the notice board.
The girl's throat moved slightly as she swallowed the secretions in her mouth. "My legs are weak."
"Then wait for me to go and see for you."
As she spoke, Guan Xiang ran over and squeezed into the crowd.
After a while, Guan Xiang returned excitedly, "Zhao Zhao, you're amazing! Guess how you did on the test?"
Seeing Guan Xiang's smiling face, Gu Zhaodi felt that she probably didn't do too badly on the exam.
"More than two hundred?" the girl guessed, giving a conservative estimate.
Nan'an Middle School uses a small class teaching model, with only thirty students in each class and just over five hundred students in the entire grade. Although the number of students is small, they are all very talented.
Two hundredths was the best result the girl could hope for.
Guan Xiang waved her hand and shook her head with a smile, "Zhao Zhao, take a bold guess."
"That's over one hundred and fifty?"
Guan Xiang stopped teasing her and said, "It's 53rd place out of a total of 750. You got 690."
"Do you know what fifty-third place means? If you keep this score, you can get into Southampton University."
Nan'an University is a nationally renowned "Double First-Class" 985 university, known as the "cradle of world knowledge," and ranks extremely high in the world.
The girl never thought about going to Nan'an University; she thought she could only go to an ordinary university at best.
After learning her results, the girl breathed a sigh of relief, thankfully she hadn't wasted Uncle Dan's financial aid.
Knowing she did well on the exam, Gu Zhaodi wanted to know her specific score.
Guan Xiang thought for a moment and said, "Your English is a little low, but your grades in other subjects are very high, especially in Chinese."
"Xiangxiang, how did you do on the exam?"
Guan Xiang paused in her excitement, "Uh, whatever."
"So what?" Guan Xiang stammered, the girl somewhat confused.
"Sigh, just like before, over 400th place. It seems I'm always at the bottom of the class, whether in junior high or high school. Luckily, Dan Si is there to keep me at the bottom." Guan Xiang felt a little comforted when she thought of Dan Si's grades.
If he were worse than Dan Si, he would laugh at himself to death.
Didn't you hire a tutor?
As far as the girl knew, most parents at Nan'an Middle School would hire tutors for their children, since inheriting the family fortune also required business acumen and getting into a good university.
"Yes, but it's not very useful." Guan Xiang sighed. "I feel like I'm just not cut out for studying."
"Zhao Zhao, how do you manage to work and improve your grades at the same time?" Guan Xiang blinked her starry eyes, hoping the girl could teach her a little something.
The girl seemed thoughtful. "It's probably because I'm making use of fragmented time. Haven't you noticed that I study whenever I have free time?"
"I've figured it out." Guan Xiang nodded, then shook her head and sighed, "I can't do it. Just thinking about studying gives me a headache."
"How about I teach you, and we can learn together?" The girl thought for a moment and came up with an idea.
"Okay." Guan Xiang thought that if she found someone to study with, she might be able to learn more effectively.
Gu Zhaodi thought about it and realized that school ended at 5 p.m., so the two of them could study together for an hour and a half. She explained the plan to Guan Xiang, who readily agreed.
"You can play normally during your breaks, but you can only use your phone after you finish the homework I give you when you get home," the girl instructed worriedly.
Guan Xiang patted her chest and solemnly agreed.
Over the next few days, the two of them strictly followed the plan. It was obvious that studying together greatly improved Guan Xiang's learning efficiency. She was full of energy and showed no signs of slacking off.
But today...
"Xiangxiang, what's wrong? Why are you so pale?" Gu Zhaodi looked at Guan Xiang, who was lying weakly on the table, her body curled up.
Guan Xiang's lips trembled and turned pale. "Zhao Zhao, I don't want to be a girl in my next life."
The girl instantly realized that Guan Xiang's period had started.
"I'll go get you some hot water first." With that, the girl reached for the water glass on Guan Xiang's table.
Guan Xiang reached out her weak hand and grabbed the person in front of her, weakly saying, "Zhao Zhao, could you please give me a sanitary napkin first? I've run out."
The girl blinked helplessly and said, "Xiangxiang, although I know about menstruation, I haven't had my period yet. I don't have any sanitary napkins. I'll go to the supermarket to buy some for you later."
Guan Xiang's face was filled with shock, and her voice involuntarily rose a few decibels, "You're already in your first year of high school, and you still haven't come?"
The girl nodded honestly.
Perhaps due to malnutrition in childhood or frequent exposure to cold water as a child, her menstrual period was delayed.
While Gu Zhaodi was helping Guan Xiang get water, Dan Si suddenly appeared out of nowhere and asked, "Guan Xiang, why are you looking so listless?"
"Is there something you need?" The girl's mood was unpredictable during her period, and she didn't really want to talk to Dan Si right now.
"Who provoked you? Why are you so short-tempered?" he asked casually.
Guan Xiang was utterly speechless. "Stay away from me."
At this moment, Yao Xin came over and hooked his arm around Dan Si's shoulder, explaining to him with an air of knowledge, "Brother Dan, Sister Guan is on her period."
"Auntie?" Dan Si was full of question marks. When did she start having periods? He had never heard of this person before.
Fang Yuan looked at him with a strange expression, as if he had discovered a new continent. "Brother Dan, you didn't have a physiology class in junior high school, and you didn't know this?"
Dan Si paused slightly, as if he understood something, and his gaze darkened. "You two, get out of here first."
Fang Yuan and Yao Xin looked at each other, and under Dan Si's imposing aura, they quickly left the classroom, thoughtfully closing the back door behind them.
The three of them stood there talking about this matter with open expressions. Even Guan Xiang, who was usually very outgoing, was a little shy, and her neck and ears turned bright red.
If I weren't too weak right now, I would definitely stand up and give those guys a few punches.
"Are you in a lot of pain right now?" Dan Si asked Guan Xiang, seemingly unsure of her current condition.
Guan Xiang squinted and nodded weakly, as if she were about to die at any moment.
Seeing her weak and powerless appearance, Dan Si hurriedly walked out of the classroom.
