Chapter 18 A Lighthearted Willingness to Help Others
Just then, Gu Zhaodi walked towards him with a cup full of hot water, almost bumping into Dan Si who was walking hurriedly. The hot water in the cup shook violently and almost spilled.
"Is this for Guan Xiang?" Dan Si lowered his eyes and looked at the steaming hot water in front of him.
The girl nodded blankly, and before she could react, Dan Si, who was usually so lazy, asked with a tense expression, "Does she need anything else?"
Gu Zhaodi looked suspicious and answered truthfully, "She needs sanitary napkins and brown sugar."
He then casually tossed out a sentence, "Take good care of her, I'll be right back," and disappeared through the door.
Without thinking much, the girl put her water glass on the table and told Guan Xiang to get up and drink a few sips to relieve her stomach pain.
A short while later, Dan Si came running back, covered in sweat, and placed the supermarket shopping bags on Guan Xiang's desk.
Dan Si deliberately ignored the two girls' probing gazes, touched the tip of his nose, and said, "I'm just helping a classmate."
After saying that, he sat back down in his seat looking uncomfortable, but his eyes were fixed on Guan Xiang.
"I didn't realize Dan Si was so helpful," Gu Zhaodi said meaningfully.
Guan Xiang, slumped over the table, mumbled a soft "ah" in her sleep.
The girl thought to herself, "Indeed, those involved are often blinded, while bystanders see things clearly."
After settling Guan Xiang in, Gu Zhaodi looked at her weak and powerless appearance and said mercifully, "Xiang Xiang will not have any tutoring this afternoon, and she will not have any homework."
Guan Xiang's eyes lit up noticeably. Although she had enjoyed taking extra classes during this period, she knew that these things couldn't be achieved overnight, and she was naturally happy to have time to relax.
"Thank you, Zhao Zhao, you're so thoughtful," Guan Xiang said sweetly.
The girl didn't tell Guan Xiang that she had planned to let her rest today, because there are periods of burnout in studying, and only by balancing work and rest can one be more engaged.
Everyone went home after school in the afternoon, and Gu Zhaodi planned to go out for a walk. So far, she had never really looked at Nan'an City at night, and she was always in a hurry when she left school.
After having lunch in the cafeteria, I strolled along the sycamore-lined avenue in the soft glow of the setting sun. The sycamore trees were turning slightly yellow, carrying a hint of summer green, creating a sense of the changing seasons.
People returning home from get off work or school, or those taking a stroll after a meal, are all part of a unique scene in this world.
Gu Zhaodi bought a cup of water at a shop on the street and leisurely enjoyed the autumn atmosphere brought by the sunset.
"Gu Zhaodi." A clear male voice came from behind the girl.
Gu Zhaodi paused slightly, turned her head, and saw that it was Ji Hao.
When Ji Hao saw the girl turn her head and look at him, he quickly stepped forward and said gently, "Gu Zhaodi, are you also here for Deng Xixue's birthday party?"
The girl paused slightly, unsure how to begin. She couldn't very well say that she and the person who liked her were enemies, not friends.
Before the girl could answer, the boy warmly invited her, "I'm going too, let's go in together."
The girl looked up at the surrounding buildings. It was an upscale restaurant. No wonder he mistook her for someone attending a birthday party.
Perhaps because the girl hadn't responded or made a move, the boy looked at her gently and asked, "Aren't you leaving?"
Gu Zhaodi snapped out of her daze and quickly said, "Class monitor, I didn't come to the birthday party. I was just passing by."
The boy's expression faltered slightly for a moment, but he quickly regained his usual gentle demeanor, his tone carrying a hint of apology, "I was mistaken."
The two stood awkwardly facing each other. Just as Gu Zhaodi was about to take her leave, Deng Xixue came out of the restaurant.
As soon as Deng Xixue came out, she glared at the girl secretly, then naturally took Ji Hao's arm. "Ji Hao, why are you so late? We're about to start."
"I ran into Gu Zhaodi earlier, so we chatted for a bit." Ji Hao subtly withdrew his hand. "I remember she's your roommate, right? Why didn't you invite her?"
Deng Xixue frowned, thinking that she couldn't lose her temper in front of Ji Hao, so she smiled and said, "Look at my forgetfulness, I forgot to invite you. Well then, Gu Zhaodi, why don't you come too?"
He glanced at the girl furtively, his eyes filled with disdain and contempt.
The girl glanced at the well-dressed girl with a strange look. Had she taken the wrong medicine today?
Then, remembering that Ji Hao was standing next to her, she understood, but she wouldn't play along with her act.
Gu Zhaodi shook her head and said politely but emotionlessly, "No need, I have other things to do. Happy birthday."
After saying that, he turned and walked away without giving them a chance to speak.
The girl is usually a polite child, but considering the verbal abuse Deng Xixue had inflicted on her in the past, her calm attitude towards Deng Xixue was the best she could do to show her politeness.
As for her attitude towards Ji Hao, she didn't want to have too much contact with him because of Deng Xixue.
On the other hand, I felt that he was a hypocrite, with a gentle appearance but a cold heart, and that it was not good to get too close to him.
The two people at the restaurant entrance frowned as they watched the girl's slender figure from behind.
Deng Xixue took a breath, and when she looked up, she saw Ji Hao still staring intently at the other person's back. She was instantly furious.
"Ji Hao, do you actually like Gu Zhaodi?" Deng Xixue asked through gritted teeth.
Upon hearing this, Ji Hao looked at Deng Xixue with a complicated expression, "I don't like her, and I hope you won't overthink it."
He was really troubled by Deng Xixue. Gu Zhaodi was a special girl, but she was not good enough for him, and he had no feelings for her.
"I understand." Deng Xixue chose to believe him for the time being.
Gu Zhaodi was not in a particularly good mood when she left, far from the joy and comfort she felt when she first left school.
Thinking that my walk was about over, I decided to head back to school.
As she was walking with her head down, a shadow appeared in front of her. Thinking she was blocking someone's way, she quickly moved to the side, but the shadow in front of her moved with her.
The person opposite took another step forward, and Gu Zhaodi noticed the leather shoes on his feet.
Following her long, straight legs, one could see a pair of dark, smiling eyes.
"Uncle Dan?" the girl asked, somewhat surprised.
Dan Anwen said in a nonchalant tone, "It's not a good habit for children to walk with their heads down."
The girl was slightly embarrassed, like a child caught doing something wrong by their parents, feeling a little lost.
The man looked at the girl with tenderness; in fact, he had been following her for a while.
I just came out of the restaurant and saw her chatting with her friends at the entrance. She was probably too engrossed in the conversation to see him. Then I saw her leave with a stiff expression.
For some reason, I changed direction and followed the girl. Seeing that she kept her head down while walking, I was worried about her, so I went up to greet her.
"Little girl, why do you look unhappy?" the man asked gently, gazing intently at the girl with concern.
Gu Zhaodi pursed her lips and said hesitantly, "I'm just in a bad mood."
The man didn't press for details, and said in a low voice, "I'll take you somewhere."
"Ah..." The girl stared at the man with puzzled eyes, and finally agreed.
Once I got into the man's car, I realized that the man in the passenger seat I had seen before was also there, but this time he was driving.
Liu Lei smiled and said, "Hello, Miss Gu."
The girl nodded slightly.
Liu Lei appeared to be staring seriously at the road conditions ahead, but inwardly he was already furiously complaining.
I knew the CEO was special to this little girl. Last time he invited her into his car to take her to school, and this time it's gone even further; he's actually following behind her, silently protecting her.
Along the way, Gu Zhaodi didn't know where this man was taking her, but she still had a strange sense of trust in him.
The man tilted his head slightly to glance at the well-behaved girl. Seeing that she was looking out the window, he was finally less uncomfortable than before.
"Little friend, don't you think I'm a bad guy this time?" The man's low, husky voice startled the two people in the car.
Liu Lei, who was in front, was slightly surprised. Was there something I didn't know?
Gu Zhaodi, who was behind, was a little embarrassed. Her cheeks were slightly hot, and a blush instantly spread across her face. Fortunately, the car was dimly lit, so it was not easy to see.
The girl mentally encouraged herself and said in a clear voice, "After these assessments, Uncle Dan is a good person."
Liu Lei, who was in front of him, almost burst out laughing. His shoulders trembled slightly, as it was the first time he had ever heard someone praise the president as a good person.
The man's lips curved upwards, and the look in his eyes softened slightly, lost in the dim light.
After the girl finished speaking, she secretly glanced at the man. Seeing that he didn't say anything, she knew she had succeeded.
The man had been dominating her every time they met, but today she finally got to turn the tables.
