Chapter 40 Heavy Breathing

Chapter 40 Heavy Breathing

A sharp pain shot through her abdomen, and the girl lost her grip on the glass. The glass shattered on the ground, the sound cutting through the dark night and echoing throughout the quiet villa.

The girl collapsed to the ground due to exhaustion, her consciousness gradually fading, and she could feel the temperature in her body quietly disappearing.

Through blurred vision, I could vaguely see a tall, handsome figure walking quickly toward me, and then I lost consciousness.

The island platform was littered with shards of glass, and a frail girl lay beside it, her bright eyes tightly closed, looking just like a fallen angel.

"Little girl, little girl?" Dan Anwen called out a few times, but when the girl didn't respond, he quickly picked her up and walked towards the gate.

In the early hours of the morning, with few vehicles on the streets, the man sped off in his Maybach toward the hospital, leaving only the sound of tires scraping against the ground.

He didn't stop even when the light was red, and the Maybach was already far exceeding the speed limit.

Dan Anwen occasionally glanced at the girl lying in the back seat through the rearview mirror. She was slumped limply in the seat, her slender, fair wrists peeking out from under her pajamas, hanging limply in the air.

If he hadn't been able to feel her breath through her nostrils when he carried her into the car, he would have thought...

The 30-minute drive was stretched to more than ten minutes by the man.

When Gu Zhaodi was wheeled into the operating room, Dan Anwen noticed that his body was trembling, especially his fingertips which were inexplicably aching. He shifted his gaze from the operating room to his palm and saw the bloodstains on his right hand.

Did she get cut by glass?

A chilling wind swept through the empty corridor, making the man shiver. The thin silk fabric clung to his muscular body, revealing glimpses of his muscles. Only then did he realize that he had come out in his pajamas.

After making a phone call, Dan Anwen sat quietly outside the operating room and waited.

When the girl regained consciousness, it was already five o'clock in the morning. She opened her eyes and gradually adjusted to the dim environment.

A dull ache in her lower abdomen gradually brought the girl back to consciousness; she seemed to...

She seemed to have fallen while getting a drink of water downstairs, but she had no recollection of what happened after that.

Wait... why is there still a heavy breathing sound coming from inside the room?

Out of instinct, the girl held her breath.

Then the bright lights on the ceiling came on, making the girl squint. When she opened her eyes again, she saw Uncle Dan sitting on the sofa next to her.

The girl's trembling body and uneven breathing startled Dan Anwen, who had been resting with his eyes closed. He thought she was having a nightmare, but it turned out she had woken up.

"How are you feeling, little one?" The man's magnetic, deep voice, with its slightly rough texture, echoed throughout the room in the quiet night.

"Uncle Dan, what's wrong with me?" The girl shook her head, her voice weak and hoarse.

After pouring a glass of warm water, the man helped the girl sit up and let her lean against the headboard.

Seeing the girl's pale lips moistened with warm water, the man slowly replied, "You ate too much spicy food last night, and you also had your period, so your stomach hurts."

Menstrual period?

This couldn't have been any more unfortunate. And now Uncle Dan found out. A hint of embarrassment flashed across the girl's pale face.

Dan Anwen pursed her thin lips, her tone somewhat unnatural, "The doctor said this is your first time, so it's quite serious. You should pay attention to keeping warm in the future and avoid spicy food..."

The man went on and on about the precautions to take during a woman's period. As he spoke, his tone and expression became more and more natural, like a concerned old father giving earnest advice to his daughter.

The girl remained stiff from the moment the man started speaking; it was practically a scene of social death!

The tips of his ears were visibly bleeding, and even the corners of his eyes were slightly red.

Only after the man finished speaking did the girl murmur, "I understand, Uncle Dan."

After saying that, the girl buried her head in the blanket.

Upon seeing this, the man raised his eyebrows and a smile curved his lips.

"Sleep a little longer," the man said gently, noticing that the sky outside was still dark.

The little head inside the blanket was nodding haphazardly, which was quite adorable.

Gu Zhaodi was still groggy after taking a nap. She was all alone in the ward; Uncle Dan was nowhere to be found.

The glaring sunlight from outside the window shone onto the blankets, and the girl formally surveyed the hospital room.

She can now boldly guess that this is a VIP ward.

Inside the room was a huge hospital bed with a large LCD TV hanging in front of it. A sofa was placed across the window, and fresh daffodils were arranged on the coffee table, symbolizing prosperity.

The girl was lost in thought when the hospital room door was pushed open.

She thought it was Uncle Dan returning, but instead a middle-aged woman carrying a thermos and toiletries appeared.

"Who are you?" The girl looked at the woman with a questioning gaze.

The woman said cheerfully, "Miss Gu, I'm Mr. Dan's housekeeper. Just call me Aunt Zhang."

The girl remembered that Uncle Dan's nanny wouldn't be back until the fifteenth day of the first lunar month, but it was only the ninth day of the first lunar month now.

So it was because she was sick that Uncle Dan called Aunt Zhang back early. Thinking of this, a hint of embarrassment flashed across the girl's face.

"Aunt Zhang, I'm so sorry to have made you come back to work early," the girl said apologetically.

Aunt Zhang, who was opening the food box, paused for a moment, then said, "Miss Gu, there's no need to apologize."

She was secretly thinking that on the second day of the Lunar New Year, Assistant Liu called and told her to come back to work on the fifteenth day of the first lunar month, and that her salary would be paid as usual. At that time, she thought Mr. Dan was not at home.

Unexpectedly, she was made to start work again early this morning. Mr. Dan doesn't cook, but there were obvious signs that the kitchen had been used. It wasn't until she heard Mr. Dan's instructions and saw the girl's clothes in the guest room that she understood the mystery.

"You can just call me Zhaozhao." The girl felt a little strange that an elder was calling her Miss Gu.

Aunt Zhang set out all the breakfast and said hesitantly, "How about we call Miss Zhao Zhao instead?"

The girl thought it over and agreed. This was Uncle Dan's nanny, and she didn't feel comfortable asking others to call her anything.

Seeing the girl's well-behaved appearance, Aunt Zhang was also delighted. Mr. Dan was a cold and taciturn person, so it was rare to see such a soft and sweet little girl.

"Come and try Aunt Zhang's stewed black fungus and red date soup. It has the effect of nourishing blood and replenishing qi." Aunt Zhang placed a bowl of soup in the girl's hand, gesturing for her to drink it. "After you finish drinking it, eat this breakfast."

Watching the girl drink her soup with her head down, Aunt Zhang put the girl's clothes from yesterday into the bathroom and took out the girl's spare clothes from home.

"Aunt Zhang, where's Uncle Dan?" The girl only realized after finishing the bowl of soup that she didn't know where Uncle Dan had gone.

"Mr. Dan went to the company. He said he would come over later."

The girl obediently nodded twice and continued eating her breakfast.

After the girl finished breakfast, she thought about replying to Guan Xiang's message, only to realize that she had left her phone in the bedroom.

These past few days, after Guan Xiang returned from Lin'an City, she went on a trip abroad with her family. I kept taking pictures of the scenery in various places for her, saying that she could also experience virtual travel through her phone.

With nothing to do, the girl turned on the TV to pass the time. After watching two episodes of mindless variety shows, she realized that Aunt Zhang had already gone home to make lunch. The girl felt a little sleepy.

"Little girl, your head is almost touching the ground." A familiar, deep male voice rang out, and the girl suddenly perked up.

"Uncle Dan, when can I be discharged from the hospital?" The girl blinked her big eyes and stared at the man, eager to know the current situation.

Seeing that the girl couldn't sit still all morning, Dan Anwen was a little helpless, but still said indulgently, "It's fine now."

He just came back from the doctor's. The doctor said he can go home now and just needs to take good care of himself.

"Really?" The girl excitedly threw off the blanket and jumped out of bed, startling the man who reached out to help her.

Be careful.

"Okay." Gu Zhaodi nodded obediently, but her eyes kept glancing towards the door of the ward, clearly not wanting to stay in the hospital any longer.

I came in a hurry last night and didn't have time to bring any luggage. My only set of pajamas was taken back by Aunt Zhang this morning.

After looking around, Dan Anwen said calmly, "Let's go."

"Uh-huh."
