Chapter 264 Begins to Suspicion

(264)

The rain was getting heavier, and the sky was gloomy, as if it were filled with lead.

Ye Wenyu lowered her head, her heart heavy, as if filled with lead.

Lin Tingfeng followed behind her. At first, he didn't say anything, but later, as the rain intensified and both of their clothes and hair were soaked, he had no choice but to say gently to her, "Get in the car, we'll talk about everything when we get home."

Now is not the time to hold a grudge.

His commanding tone, carried on the loud, exaggerated sound of rain, didn't soften much. Ye Wenyu felt a sharp, stabbing pain in her. She thought that everyone, rich or poor, only has one life. Why was she degrading herself like this, becoming someone else's plaything? Why couldn't she be dignified, strong, and live an independent, respectable life?

She's intelligent, academically excellent, young, and beautiful. Why would she choose such a humiliating life?!

She looked up at the sky and silently cried out in her heart, tears streaming down her face with the rain. She wept uncontrollably in the heavy rain.

She still ignored Lin Tingfeng's words and walked briskly through the rain with her head down.

Seeing that she wouldn't listen, Lin Tingfeng had no choice but to catch up with Ye Wenyu in a few quick steps, and swiftly reached out to grab her hand. As Ye Wenyu struggled, he bent down like a giant beast and lifted her up horizontally. Lin Tingfeng was no Lin Tingxuan; his strength was astonishing. No matter how hard Ye Wenyu struggled in his arms, it was all in vain.

He successfully carried her into the car, and then Lin Tingfeng ordered the driver to drive off.

The rain outside intensified, as if the heavens had opened the floodgates to release a torrent of water. The black Mercedes-Benz drove on the road like a boat adrift in a flood.

At first, Lin Tingfeng held Ye Wenyu in his arms, wanting to comfort her, who was soaked to the bone from the rain. She seemed to be in poor health and would get sick every time she got wet in the rain, so he was very worried.

But this time, Ye Wenyu didn't want to listen to him anymore. She struggled to sit up from his arms, shifted her body to the side several times, and finally pressed herself tightly against the other side of the car door, keeping as far away from him as possible inside the car.

Seeing all this, Lin Tingfeng knew she was angry and felt very sad. He didn't say anything, but leaned his wet body back against the leather seat in the back of the car, and then closed his eyes wearily. He thought to himself that perhaps it was unwise for someone his age to still yearn for true love.

He was already exhausted from dealing with company affairs, and when he got home, he still had to deal with his girlfriend's romantic life. Sigh—

When they arrived home, Lin Tingfeng still wanted to carry Ye Wenyu out of the car, but Ye Wenyu didn't wait for him. After the driver parked the car, she pushed open the car door and got out herself.

The rain was still pouring down, a torrential downpour. Stepping into the rain felt like someone upstairs was constantly pouring water on her with a large bucket. The dense raindrops hitting her body felt like whips, causing her great pain. Ye Wenyu was so weak that she staggered. She struggled to walk into the building and then into her room.

Lin Tingfeng followed her into the house.

He said to Ye Wenyu, who was standing blankly in the middle of the house, "Go take a shower, or you'll catch a cold." Ye Wenyu remained motionless like a puppet, with a large puddle of water around her feet.

Lin Tingfeng suddenly said wearily, "I have nothing to explain, and I don't want to explain. If you don't want to live this kind of life anymore, you can choose to leave, and I won't stop you." After saying this, he went out and didn't return for a long, long time.

The room was quiet; I could hear my own slow heartbeat.

Ye Wenyu hadn't expected to regain her freedom so easily. She stood there for half an hour, and after confirming that Lin Tingfeng wouldn't be back anytime soon, she almost became excited. Thinking that if she was free, she would need to find work to support herself, and she couldn't afford to get sick again. So, she immediately went to the bathroom to take a shower. After showering, she changed into clean clothes, made a cup of hot black tea, and slowly drank it in the living room, beginning to think about how she should proceed with her life.

Just then, her phone rang. Ye Wenyu picked it up and saw it was an unfamiliar number. Curious, she answered the call, and a voice said, "Hello, your takeout has arrived and is right at the door."

Ye Wenyu said curiously, "I didn't order it."

The deliveryman said, "This was ordered for you by a Mr. Lin, Lin Tingfeng."

Ye Wenyu then understood that although Lin Tingfeng was tired and disappointed and was giving her the cold shoulder, he was still worried that she was sick and hungry, so he ordered takeout for her before leaving.

Ye Wenyu was stunned, overwhelmed with mixed feelings. Although she was angry with him and blamed him for lying to her, this kind of life was also given to her by him. Back then, he was the one who pulled her out of the sea of suffering. Now that she had been living a good life for too long, she had forgotten the hardships she had endured before.

Ye Wenyu got up to open the door and get the takeout. There was a delivery guy from Ele.me standing outside. He was about the same age as Ye Wenyu and had a very handsome face. He was probably a kid from the countryside who hadn't gotten into college, so he came to the city to deliver takeout. He was wearing a raincoat, but water was dripping from under the brim of his hat. He was soaked through, as if he had just been pulled out of the water.

He said apologetically to Ye Wenyu, "The rain was too heavy, so I was a few minutes late. Miss, could you please not give me a bad review or complain? If we get a complaint, we'll have our wages docked."

Ye Wenyu felt as if she had been struck by lightning. She stared blankly at the delivery guy, who looked at her anxiously and pleadingly. He was dripping wet, and there was already a large puddle where he was standing. At this moment, there was still thunder and lightning outside, and the wind and rain were heavy.

In this kind of weather, are you still delivering food?

The delivery guy glanced at Ye Wenyu again and said to her urgently, "Please promise me, okay? I still have several orders to deliver, and I can't be late."

Ye Wenyu finally came to her senses and immediately nodded, smiling as she said, "Don't worry, I won't complain. I'll even give you a good review. By the way, wait a minute—" She remembered that there was some freshly heated bread and yogurt at home, which she had originally planned to eat when she got hungry. Now that there was takeout, she didn't need to eat it. So, she hurriedly took the bread and yogurt from the kitchen, stuffed them into the delivery guy's hand, and said to him, "This is for you."

The delivery guy was very touched. He waved his hand, refusing to take the food, and said to her, "No need, I don't have time to eat, and I'm not hungry right now. By the way, you're so kind, do you have any trash to take downstairs? I'll help you take it down." He then helped her carry the trash that was in the stairwell.
