Chapter 14 I'm busy, I don't want to play with you...
The woman who had been missing for a month and five days reappeared. Hua Yu stared at her for a long time, and her restless craving for cigarettes suddenly subsided.
He casually took the cigarette down, crumpled it into a ball in his hand, and asked calmly, "What brings you here?"
"Can't I come?" Yun Jin asked back.
Hua Yu stood indifferently in front of the glass door, saying, "We're not open today."
Yun Jin: "Why?"
No sooner had the words been spoken than a shout came from inside the glass door, and then a man holding a baseball bat was apprehended on the spot by the police.
Yun Jin was facing the door and happened to see this scene: "Ah..."
"Understood?" Hua Yu said.
Yun Jin looked away and met his gaze again.
It had been over a month since we last met, and both times had transitioned from summer to autumn. The weather had turned cold, but the waiter's tone of voice seemed less cold.
Is it because it has grown a little bit?
A smile appeared on Yun Jin's lips, and she suddenly pulled him into the alley.
Hua Yu disliked physical contact. The moment her wrist was grabbed, the mechanical watch on her wrist pressed against his knuckles, making him freeze for two seconds from the cold.
He was about to break free when the glass door behind him suddenly opened. Hua Yu realized what was happening and immediately began to breathe softly.
Is anyone outside?
"No."
What about in the alley?
The unfamiliar conversation paused, then a beam of bright light shone into the dark alley.
Just as the light was about to shine on them, Hua Yu took the initiative and pulled Yun Jin into a narrow gap nearby.
The gap was truly narrow, only about thirty centimeters wide between the two walls. Two people could barely squeeze in, their bodies pressed tightly together.
It was truly autumn, but Hua Yu was still wearing the floral shirt uniform she wore in the bar during the summer. Yun Jin's skirt was also thin, and the fabric rubbed against each other, their body temperatures gradually mingling, and their intertwined limbs seemed to be embracing.
The familiar fragrance enveloped Hua Yu once again, and he felt like a bee that had fallen into water, his wings and breath becoming heavy.
Hua Yu pressed herself tightly against the wall, her chin raised high, revealing her vulnerable Adam's apple, as if this would distance her from the wall and allow her to escape the illusion of drowning.
His body was stiff as a rock; anyone who didn't know better would think he was holding a crocodile.
Yun Jin was completely unaware of how terrifying he was, and because the wall behind her was too hard, she simply lay on his chest and listened to his rapid heartbeat to pass the time.
Hua Yu's body stiffened even more. If it weren't for the intense light still searching outside, he might have pushed her away and fled.
The search lasted for two minutes until the glass door opened and closed again, allowing Hua Yu to escape through the narrow gap.
As soon as he went out, the gap widened.
Yun Jin walked out unhurriedly, deliberately asking, "Is it really necessary? Have you never been this close to a member of the opposite sex before?"
Hua Yu seemed to still have her body heat lingering on her body, and the autumn wind suddenly made her feel a little cool. Hearing her casual tone, the coolness became even more pronounced.
“What’s it to you?” he said.
Yun Jin laughed: "Is this how you treat your savior?"
Hua Yu paused, recalling once again the words the security captain had spoken.
Seeing that he was not speaking, Yun Jin slowly took a step forward.
In the dead of night, in the pitch-black alley, Hua Yu could not see her clearly, but she could clearly feel her presence getting closer.
From the very first meeting, he felt as if this woman was leading him by the nose. Now, in the pitch-black environment, he suddenly felt a surge of resistance and refused to back down an inch.
Yun Jin hadn't expected that simply taking a step forward would cause him to have so many thoughts. She just felt that getting closer would allow her to see him more clearly.
"Hey," Yun Jin snapped her fingers, noticing he was lost in thought, "shouldn't you be saying thank you now?"
Hua Yu snapped out of her daze, her lips moved, but she didn't say anything.
Yun Jin knew she was putting him in a difficult position, and was about to say something to change the subject when she heard a reluctant voice—
"Thanks……"
They actually thanked me.
She's so... well-behaved.
A smile flickered in Yun Jin's eyes, but her words carried a hint of roguishness: "You think saying thank you is enough?"
Hua Yu: "..."
"Not even a hint?" Yun Jin asked again.
Even if Hua Yu were an idiot, she could tell that she was deliberately teasing her. She suppressed her displeasure and said, "You didn't get my permission when you bribed the security captain."
"Who said that to you? I was talking about just now. If I hadn't pulled you away, you would have been arrested already... Wait a minute," Yun Jin suddenly stopped and deliberately asked, "Did the security captain also play a role?"
Hua Yu: "..."
"So, I saved you twice." Yun Jin smiled knowingly.
Hua Yu: "...What do you want?"
Although she acted on her own initiative, it is a fact that she saved him.
He didn't want to owe her any favors.
"As long as I can afford it." His tone became more serious.
Yun Jin thought for a moment and said, "I want..."
“Except for me,” Hua Yu suddenly added warily, “I won’t sell.”
Yun Jin looked regretful: "Then come with me."
After saying that, she walked deeper into the long alley.
Hua Yu originally didn't want to go with her, but after standing there for a moment, she heard the howling and screaming of a drunk man coming from afar.
This is an entertainment street, and even if the Royal Bar is closed, other entertainment venues will continue to attract dangerous drunks.
He pursed his lips slightly, but still chased after her with a stern face.
The alley was dark and deep. Although Hua Yu often came to the back door of the bar to smoke, she had never walked into the alley before. Now, following closely behind Yun Jin, she felt as if she had stepped into another dimension.
It was as if I had stepped into another deserted universe, where the concepts of space and time were completely confused, and I became one of the only two living people in this universe.
Lonely, yet fortunate.
This strange thought didn't last long before it was extinguished by a ray of light. Hua Yu looked in the direction of the light and realized that they were on a back street, and the first shop at the end of the long alley was a small pharmacy that was open 24 hours a day.
"Wait."
Yun Jin left those words and went straight into the pharmacy. Hua Yu didn't know what she was waiting for, but after Yun Jin gave the order, she subconsciously stood at the bottom of the pharmacy steps.
When Yun Jin came out, she saw him standing there all alone, like a homeless stray dog, aimlessly waiting for a kind person to take him home.
Homeless stray dogs, terminally ill patients with incurable diseases.
How come he can live such a pitiful life no matter what age he is?
Yun Jin let out a soft breath, and when he looked at her, the weariness in her eyes vanished in an instant: "Come here."
Hua Yu noticed the iodine in her hand and finally understood why she had made her wait.
A sudden unease welled up inside him, and he frowned in resistance: "I don't need it."
"If you don't come over soon, I'm going to report you to the police as a fugitive." Yun Jin raised an eyebrow.
Hua Yu: "..."
"You really want to take a day trip to the police station?" Yun Jin feigned surprise.
Hua Yu took a deep breath.
Today's fight didn't have any serious consequences, and he wasn't the mastermind. Even if he goes to the police station, he'll be released in 24 hours at most.
But once he goes there, he has to report the truth, and it might even be reported. If someone with ulterior motives sees it, his currently peaceful life will be completely ruined.
After weighing his options for a long time, he still walked up to Yun Jin with a cold face.
Yun Jin stood on the steps, and only by looking down could she see his stubborn yet handsome face.
After silently admiring her for a few seconds, she asked, "Do you know that the more it's like this, the more it makes people..."
I won't say anything more, lest he think I'm a pervert.
Hua Yu frowned: "The more people ask for it?"
Yun Jin smiled slightly, dipped a cotton swab in iodine, and poked his face rather gently.
There was no romantic atmosphere at all; it was all dissatisfaction that he was injured.
Iodine is not particularly irritating, but the moment the dried-up small wounds are moistened again, they still sting.
Hua Yu frowned even more, but didn't utter a sound of pain. She simply asked after the medicine was applied, "Is it okay now?"
“That’s fine,” Yun Jin said, carrying the plastic bag containing the medicine. “So, how do you plan to thank me for applying the medicine?”
Hua Yu: "..."
Seeing his speechless expression, Yun Jin couldn't help but laugh: "Treat me to something to eat, and then we can really turn the page."
Hua Yu's Adam's apple bobbed, and just as she was about to speak, her phone rang.
He glanced at Yun Jin and answered the call: "Boss."
"Hua Yu, I see you didn't get into the police car, so you must be alright, right?" His phone was obviously not very good; the sound from the receiver was so loud it was practically on speakerphone.
Yun Jin looked up at him.
He lowered his eyes and replied, "It's nothing."
"Okay, then you and Xiao Wang can tidy up the lobby together and make a note of the losses so I can find a lawyer to sue for compensation."
Hua Yu agreed, hung up the phone, and looked at Yun Jin.
"Do you really have to be so honest?" Yun Jin crossed her arms. "With so much happening tonight, even if you reject him, he won't say anything."
“This is my job,” Hua Yu said calmly.
Looking at his inflexible manner, Yun Jin suddenly missed her cunning and shrewd husband.
The cunning husband, twelve years later, suddenly felt a chill in the guest room of the Liu family home. He instinctively reached out to the side, only to find a wisp of air.
"Wife?" Hua Cheng mumbled sleepily.
No one answered, and the seat next to me was cold, with no signs of anyone having slept there.
There must be something that needs to be done, so I'll leave now.
Hua Cheng, who trusted his wife completely, turned over and went back to sleep.
In front of the small pharmacy in 2013, Hua Yu looked at Yun Jin's helpless expression and finally sensed a trace of vitality in her unintentionally revealed true emotions.
He suddenly asked, "What do you want to eat?"
"Hmm?" Yun Jin looked puzzled.
"Didn't you want me to treat you to something?" Hua Yu met her gaze for a moment, then immediately looked away. "I don't want to owe you a favor. Once I've treated you, we're even."
Yun Jin agreed with his suggestion, but did not ask him to fulfill it immediately: "Go back to work first, and we can talk about what to eat after we finish."
Hua Yu frowned: "It will take me a long time to finish."
"Then we'll eat whenever it ends," Yun Jin said calmly.
Hua Yu paused for a moment, about to say that there was no need to fulfill the promise now, and they could do it another day. But before he could say anything, his boss called again, urging him to hurry up. He could only glance at Yun Jin quickly and leave.
The bar's lobby was a complete mess, with bottles of liquor priced at thousands or tens of thousands of yuan scattered all over the floor. Hua Yu's head ached as soon as she walked in.
Before he returned, several employees were already cleaning. One of them, who had always disliked him, immediately mocked him as soon as he came in: "We're almost done cleaning, why did you come back?"
Hua Yu ignored him and picked up the broom to start working.
The man got angry when he saw him like that, muttered a few words, and then continued working.
The broken wine bottle was relatively easy to clean up, but the spilled wine and stained wallpaper were more troublesome. As Hua Yu cleaned up, she recalled Yun Jin's words and suddenly realized that she might have to wait outside until he finished.
I don't think so...
Although we haven't had much contact, I can tell she's not someone who enjoys melodramatic situations, and she wouldn't do something like standing outside waiting foolishly.
Despite thinking this way, Hua Yu still sped up his work. Among all the employees left to clean up the bar, he was the only one who didn't slack off at all, leaving even those who disliked him speechless.
Unfortunately, cleaning a bar is no less difficult than post-construction cleaning. No matter how fast he sped up, he didn't finish until 3 a.m. By the time he went to the staff lounge to shower and change his clothes, it was already 4 a.m.
That's his usual time after get off work.
Hua Yu, with a canvas backpack slung over one shoulder, left through the back door of the bar with her head down.
Perhaps it was because he had been lacking sleep for the past few days, but as he walked through that long alley, his heart suddenly started beating rapidly, as if reminding him to rest as soon as possible.
Hua Yu walked quickly forward with her eyes downcast. When she was about to reach the end of the long alley, she saw that there was nothing in front of her. Even the small pharmacy that claimed to be open 24 hours a day was closed.
He stopped in his tracks, and his heart, which had been sounding a sharp alarm, suddenly calmed down.
Hua Yu stood still for a moment, then turned to leave, but heard someone laugh and ask, "Weren't you here to see me? Why are you leaving again?"
He paused slightly, looked in the direction of the sound, and saw Yun Jin coming out from behind the pharmacy.
Did you really wait all night?
Having forgotten to drink warm water after her shower, Hua Yu's throat was a little dry. After staring at her for a long while, she finally managed to speak with difficulty: "You..."
"I figured you wouldn't be done anytime soon, so I booked a room at the hotel behind here for a few hours and took a nap," Yun Jin said, then suddenly became displeased. "Pingcheng is supposed to be a top-tier city, how come there isn't a single star-rated hotel around here? It took me ages to find one that was barely acceptable, and the air quality in the room wasn't even very good..."
She earnestly complained about the hotel environment, and Hua Yu couldn't get a word in edgewise. However, after confirming that she hadn't been waiting foolishly, she inexplicably breathed a sigh of relief.
After all, he didn't want to watch a tearjerker.
Yun Jin was talking for a while, then suddenly fell silent.
At this moment, Hua Yu was not wearing the bar uniform, but had changed into her own clothes.
She wore a slightly frayed white short-sleeved shirt, a poorly tailored plaid jacket, and faded jeans. Her overall look could be described as simple and frugal, yet it did not diminish her beauty.
Sure enough, 20 is the age when you look good even in a rag.
Yun Jin's gaze was so intense that Hua Yu couldn't pretend not to see it, so she could only turn her face away and ask, "Have you decided what you want to eat?"
Yun Jin knew when to stop: "At this time, we can only have breakfast."
Hua Yu nodded, turned and left.
Five minutes later, he arrived on a beat-up electric scooter.
Yun Jin was visibly taken aback when she saw the electric scooter.
It is now September 2013, and she met Hua Cheng in August 2014.
At that time, she was cheated out of her money by a shady employment agency and was fired from the restaurant where she worked. With nowhere to go, she could only wander the streets late at night. It was Hua Cheng who took her home on a broken electric bike and gave her a place to stay.
Later, their lives gradually improved. The old electric bikes were replaced with new ones, then with second-hand small trucks, then with brand-new large trucks, and finally with limited-edition sports cars sitting in the garage collecting dust.
She thought she had long forgotten what the electric scooter looked like, but she never expected that she would recognize it at a glance when she saw it again in a different time and space after so many years.
"Not for sale," Hua Yu suddenly said.
Yun Jin snapped out of her daze, speechless: "Who asked you..."
“I’m not selling the car either,” Hua Yu interrupted.
Yun Jin: "..."
It was rare for her to be humiliated, so Hua Yu gave a short laugh before quickly straightening up her face.
Yun Jin glanced at him and quite skillfully sat on the back seat.
The electric scooter creaked under the weight of two adults and set off.
The early autumn morning was cool. Yun Jin hadn't had time to buy autumn clothes yet and was still wearing her summer dress. Fortunately, Hua Yu had broad shoulders, which shielded her from most of the wind.
Hua Yu only realized that her exposed limbs were red from the cold when she arrived at the hotel entrance.
He paused for a moment, hesitating whether to give her his coat, when Yun Jin suddenly asked, "Why did you bring me here?"
Hua Yu paused her thinking: "Let's eat breakfast."
This is the most expensive hotel in the old town. He checked the price of breakfast during a break from work, and the balance on his card was barely enough to cover it.
Yun Jin looked at the five-star hotel in front of her and laughed: "You usually eat breakfast in places like this?"
Of course not.
I just felt that to repay a favor, I should do it according to her standards.
A woman who can easily spend tens of thousands of dollars in one night at a bar would probably be more accustomed to dining in such upscale settings.
Hua Yu didn't explain: "Let's go, after we finish eating, we'll all go home."
Yun Jin sat motionless on the electric scooter: "I'm not going. Eating in a place like this so early in the morning will easily cause indigestion."
Moreover, at this time, the hotel breakfast has not yet started serving.
"What would you like to eat?" Hua Yu asked.
Yun Jin: "Two yuan a bowl of tofu pudding, one yuan a fried dough stick, and a tea egg."
As soon as she finished speaking, Hua Yu frowned: "I can still afford to treat you to breakfast, you don't need to lower your standards."
"Oh," Yun Jin gave the order without arguing, "Enough talk, let's go."
Hua Yu stood still, and after a moment of stalemate, she finally gave in and threw her coat onto her lap before getting into the car.
Yun Jin didn't stand on ceremony with him and put on the clothes directly.
Twenty minutes later, they appeared at a steamed bun shop that Hua Yu frequented.
The steamed bun shop was located at the entrance of an old residential area. The tables and walls were greasy, and the fan hanging from the beam was covered with a layer of dust. The hygiene conditions were appalling.
It's hard to say that he brought her here unintentionally, but Yun Jin was quite used to this environment. She sat down at the small table outside the door and gestured for Hua Yu to get her some food.
Not seeing any disgust on her face, Hua Yu pursed her lips and bought breakfast as requested, adding a meat platter as well.
The steamed buns in the steamer were cooked, and when the owner lifted the lid, white steam rushed out.
Yun Jin was still wearing his coat, sitting at the small square table, intently eating a bite of tofu pudding and a bite of fried dough stick. Hua Yu stared at her for a moment, then pushed the meat box in front of her.
A hint of surprise flashed in Yun Jin's eyes; she clearly hadn't expected him to be so proactive.
“This is delicious too,” he said.
Yun Jin stared at him for a few seconds, then lowered her head and took a bite of the meat pie.
The meat sandwich with eggs was a bit greasy and too oily.
She wasn't one to force herself; if she didn't like something, she wouldn't eat it, even if it was given to her by Hua Yu.
Hua Yu watched as she put down the meat box she had taken a bite of, her heart unmoved, and simply finished off the rest of the meat box.
After finishing the entire iron plate of breakfast, Yun Jin felt a bit bloated. Just as she was thinking about whether to take a walk nearby, Hua Yu suddenly said, "Don't come to bars anymore."
Yun Jin paused, then looked up at him.
Hua Yu said calmly, "Didn't you get tired of the game of chasing prey a long time ago? You even changed waiters on the last day, and then didn't come for more than a month. That means you've lost interest in me. I don't know why you suddenly reappeared after so long. Anyway, I'm very busy and don't want to play with you. You'll get nothing from me except wasting my time."
He had wanted to say these words to her when he saw her last night, but various circumstances had prevented him from doing so until now.
He didn't want to be a side dish in the lives of the wealthy, nor did he want to rely on anyone's power or wealth to solve his current predicament. He just wanted to live a peaceful and stable life, even if it was tiring, just to have peace of mind.
Thinking this, Hua Yu's gaze fell on Yun Jin's ring finger.
There was a plain ring there, which she had worn since the first time they met, never hiding the fact that she was married.
It was precisely because of her frankness that Hua Yu knew from the very beginning that they were never meant to be together.
He raised his eyes and said coldly, "Don't come here again."
Yun Jin remained silent, simply watching him quietly.
Hua Yu felt inexplicably irritated and got up to leave.
"I haven't been here for over a month because I've been busy with work."
Suddenly, Yun Jin's voice came from behind. Hua Yu warned herself not to trust her and couldn't help but stop.
"The reason for changing waiters on the last day is because you've been the one for a long time, and I was afraid that if I suddenly left, the boss would think it was because of you and cause you trouble, and also..."
Yun Jin stood up slowly, walked around to him, took off her clothes, and patted them on his body.
"Also, I really like you, I'm not just playing around with you."
She spoke earnestly, and every word seemed to be for his sake. She had even bribed the security captain beforehand to verify the truthfulness of her words.
She was a very clever hunter; seemingly nonchalant, she was actually relentlessly pressing him, trying to gradually erode his bottom line.
like.
What a touching declaration of love.
It arrived at just the right time on such a morning.
Hua Yu felt it was absurd. The sharp gaze pierced straight into her eyes, trying to penetrate her dark pupils and see through her soul.
Yun Jin met his gaze calmly, allowing him to probe her in an offensive manner.
As dawn broke, the steamed bun shop gradually became bustling. Yun Jin and Hua Yu, who had been silently gazing at each other, suddenly seemed out of place with their surroundings.
After staring at each other for an unknown amount of time, Hua Yu asked with a cold laugh, "You like me?"
"Yes," Yun Jin readily admitted.
Hua Yu: "How much do you like it?"
Yun Jin: "I like it very much."
“Fine,” Hua Yu said defensively, crossing her arms and looking at her with a sharp gaze. “Divorce your husband first.”
Yun Jin paused for a few seconds, then said, "I can agree to other things, but not this."
Hua Yu was too lazy to waste words with her and turned to leave.
Yun Jin wasn't upset about being left behind; she took a taxi back to her home in 2013.
Hua Cheng slept at Liu Zhuang's house until after 8 o'clock before waking up and immediately went home.
Sure enough, there was a small bulge on the master bedroom bed, and Yun Jin was curled up inside, fast asleep.
Hua Cheng slowed his pace, stepped forward and kissed her forehead. Yun Jin woke up with a soft hum, glanced at him wearily, and then closed her eyes again.
Hua Cheng chuckled: "So sleepy, did you go thieving last night?"
"Hmm, a womanizer." Yun Jin shrank further under the covers.
Hua Cheng: "Did you collect them?"
"No."
Hua Cheng: "Why?"
"He asked me to divorce you first, but I didn't agree."
Hua Cheng felt sorry for his wife: "You should have agreed. You should have gotten the flowers first."
Yun Jin opened her eyes: "It can be like this?"
"certainly."
Yun Jin stared at him for a while, indicating that she had learned something.
Hua Cheng smiled and touched her face, then dragged her off the bed and took her to the bathroom, before turning and going into the dressing room.
Yun Jin always took her time washing up; Hua Cheng had already changed his clothes, but she still hadn't come out of the bathroom.
He waited a while, then decided to help her choose her outfit for the day.
The weather forecast says that today's temperature will be a little higher than yesterday's, but because it's cloudy and windy, we can't wear too little clothing.
Hua Cheng quickly put together an outfit, but then felt something was missing. So he opened the safe full of jewelry, trying to find a necklace or earring to match the clothes.
After searching for a long time, he finally found a suitable set of pearl jewelry on the second floor. He smiled and took out the box. Just as he was about to close the safe, he suddenly noticed the empty small box next to him.
He remembered that the box contained a loose diamond, which he had specially chosen as a birthday gift for Yun Jin years ago.
