Chapter 4 Did you go drinking?

Chapter 4 Did you go drinking?

For a moment, Hua Yu thought she had misheard.

But the moment he met Yun Jin's gaze, he knew he was right.

She was basically asking if he wanted to sleep with her.

Hua Yu had never seen such eyes before, like ever-growing wild grass, or like a flame sealed in ice.

Pitch black, bright, resolute.

Even his hooliganism was so open and fearless, as if it were a king bestowing a compassionate favor upon a beggar.

After a brief moment of stunned silence, Hua Yu felt a surge of anger, and her eyes turned even colder: "Sorry, I'm not selling."

Yun Jin smiled.

Her features are delicate, and she can appear a bit cold when she's expressionless, but when she smiles, she becomes much more approachable.

In Hua Yu's view, being approachable also means that 'she is inherently superior'.

Her head started to hurt again, and feeling annoyed, Hua Yu turned and left.

“You look like you’re sleep-deprived,” Yun Jin’s voice came slowly and deliberately.

When Hua Yu decided to leave, she was prepared to be fired, so when she turned back to look at her, she no longer concealed her aggression: "What's it to you?"

Yun Jin was not angered by his provocative tone, and simply said, "I've only slept for a little over two hours since eight o'clock yesterday morning."

Hua Yu didn't understand why she was telling her this, her dark eyes still sharp.

Yun Jin smiled silently and gestured for him to open the wine for her.

Hua Yu didn't move.

Yun Jin decided to do it herself and poured a glass for both of them.

"Have a little, it'll help you fall asleep. Consider it a thank you gift for the discount you gave me." Yun Jin pushed his glass forward a little.

From the moment this woman asked why she wanted to choose a prestigious champagne, every step she took was absurd and bizarre, completely outside the comprehension of normal people.

"This is outrageous!" Hua Yu laughed instead, her calm eyes seeming to ignite with two flames, finally showing a bit of youthful exuberance.

"I don't need it!" He refused completely.

"You don't appreciate it? Never mind then."

Yun Jin didn't like to make things difficult for people. After finishing her champagne, she set an alarm and lay down on the sofa.

Are you asleep?

She's asleep?

So when she talks about sleeping, does she really just mean sleeping?

Everyone sleeps separately?

The private room was very soundproof. Despite the loud gongs, drums, and firecrackers outside, Hua Yu could still hear her long, soft breathing.

When the human brain is unable to process certain things, it enters a state of "freezing".

Hua Yu felt like she was frozen right now. All the intense emotions that had arisen because of her were now empty. She just calmly felt that she had encountered a madwoman.

madman.

Hua Yu gently pressed the tip of her tongue against her teeth, while placing one hand on the doorknob.

"Don't go out," the woman, who was clearly asleep, suddenly said.

It was too late. Hua Yu had already opened the door a crack, and loud, blaring music immediately burst in.

Yun Jin turned over impatiently, her back to him: "It's so noisy, close the door."

Hua Yu was speechless, wanting to say why should she listen to him, but after the intense emotions subsided, reason returned once again.

He currently holds three part-time jobs, but the bar job pays the most, allowing him to maintain a basic standard of living while also saving some money.

His savings were meager, but they were enough for him to escape when debt collectors came knocking on his door.

This job is really important to him.

Moreover, she wasn't doing anything else; she was just 'sleeping'.

The handsome young man, with a slender back and a silent demeanor, quickly relented and closed the door.

The private room fell silent again. Yun Jin adjusted her position and this time she was truly asleep.

Hua Yu leaned against the door, closed his eyes wearily, and the colored light shining through the glass in the door cut his high nose into colorful blocks.

Yun Jin is still asleep and doesn't look like she'll wake up anytime soon.

Hua Yu quickly got tired of standing and quietly sat down on a chair next to the karaoke machine.

He finished get off work at around 4 a.m. this morning, slept for less than three hours, then got up to go to the construction site. He worked there until 5 p.m., then went to the supermarket to unload goods, and then came to the bar to clock in at 8 p.m.

Prolonged periods of intense physical work and severe sleep deprivation strained every nerve in his brain.

His head was throbbing with pain, he was exhausted and drowsy, his body and mind had reached their limits, and now he was in a quiet, dimly lit room, his consciousness uncontrollably sinking into darkness...

He suddenly woke up with a start, and when he opened his eyes, he realized that only three minutes had passed.

Yun Jin was still sleeping on the L-shaped sofa with her back to him, her beautiful dress casually piled up, revealing her fair calves and curves.

Hua Yu glanced at her, then silently lay down on the L-shaped sofa.

The sofa was much shorter than the 'l', so Yun Jin slept comfortably with plenty of space above and below her head. However, he was in a predicament, as his long legs could only be awkwardly draped over the edge of the sofa.

But for Hua Yu, that was enough.

The music outside seemed to have stopped, the lights became soft and dim, and he drifted off to sleep.

Ding-dong.

My phone rang.

In the bright and luxurious private dining room, Hua Cheng picked up his phone and checked it; it was a spam text message.

After Yun Jin told him she would bring scallion pancakes, she didn't send any more messages.

"Hua Cheng... Hua Cheng?"

Hua Cheng twirled the plain ring on his ring finger, then looked up and met Feng He's smiling eyes.

Feng He, the largest director of Yuncheng Technology, joined the company aggressively in its early days and took the largest share. He has maintained a stable position on the board of directors ever since.

"What are you thinking about?" Feng He asked with a smile.

Hua Cheng stared at him for a few seconds and smiled, "I was thinking... Uncle Feng has become more and more kind lately."

The thug who used to be full of menacing aura has now transformed and even has a somewhat Buddha-like appearance.

“He’s about to become a grandfather, how could he not be kind?” Feng He glanced at Feng Wan beside him, his eyes crinkling with laughter. “I heard the test results from Hong Kong are in?”

"It just came out yesterday, I haven't had a chance to tell you yet." Hua Cheng leaned back lazily in his chair, casually gripping the corner of Feng Wan's chair with one hand. "It's a boy."

Feng He's smile deepened: "A boy is great! The Hua family will have a successor. You must be overjoyed. No wonder you were willing to fly economy class to come back early to accompany Wanwan for her prenatal checkup."

Feng Wan ate with her head down, without saying a word.

Hua Cheng smiled leisurely: "Yes, it can be considered as doing right by the ancestors of the Hua family. The main thing is to thank Wanwan."

“We’re all family, no need to thank me,” Feng He waved his hand, then turned to his daughter, asking, “How were the results of today’s prenatal checkup?”

Feng Wan ignored her and continued eating.

Hua Cheng spoke up for her: "Everything is fine. The baby is a little anemic, and the baby's legs are a little short, but the doctor said it's all within a manageable range."

"Short legs? That's from my grandfather." Feng He laughed a few times, then gave Feng Wan a warning look.

Feng Wan remained unmoved and did not want to look at him.

Feng He had no choice but to turn to Hua Cheng and say, "That pile of stuff just now, you bought it for Wanwan, right? That girl, I've spoiled her rotten."

Hua Cheng smiled and glanced at her: "She is a great contributor to the Hua family, so it is only right that I buy her anything."

"Really?" Feng Wan finally looked up. "Then buy me a house in the city."

“Nonsense,” Feng He frowned. “Does the house need you to stay at home? Why would you ask Hua Cheng for a house?”

“Home is home. I’m about to have a baby. Can’t I even have my own house?” Feng Wan retorted.

Feng He frowned immediately, about to scold her, when Hua Cheng sighed: "Didn't we agree to wait until after the shareholders' meeting at the end of the month to make the purchase?"

"It's just buying me a house, why do we have to wait until after the shareholders' meeting?" Feng Wan retorted.

Before Hua Cheng could explain, Feng He said unhappily, "Why are you acting so grumpy today? Are you getting upset over something so trivial? Can't you consider the bigger picture?"

Feng Wan put down her chopsticks: "I'm considering the bigger picture, but who's considering me?"

Feng He: "You..."

"Alright, alright, don't be upset about this. I'll take you to see an apartment tomorrow," Hua Cheng interrupted the father and daughter's argument.

Feng He immediately objected: "No, the smallest house in the city costs at least 30 million. What if Yun Jin becomes suspicious if you rashly use such a large sum of money?"

“If you have any doubts, just confront her. Anyway, I don’t want to wait any longer,” Feng Wan continued to press Hua Cheng. “I’ve already found a place that costs 93 million. Go pay the money tomorrow.”

Hua Cheng was silent for a moment, then nodded: "Okay."

"I said no!" Feng He suddenly became furious, and his Buddhist-like demeanor shattered instantly.

Hua Cheng and Feng Wan looked at him at the same time. Realizing his loss of composure, he took a sip of wine with a cold face.

After a moment of silence in the private room, Feng He put down his wine glass: "I'll buy the house. Let's not discuss this anymore. Wanwan, I know you're feeling wronged, but for the sake of the shareholders' meeting and for the sake of the baby in your belly, please bear with it for a while longer."

Feng Wan pursed her lips, about to speak, when Hua Cheng's expression suddenly changed slightly.

She immediately took out a medicine bottle from her bag and handed it to him.

Everything happened so fast that by the time Feng He realized what was happening and wanted to ask a few words of concern, Hua Cheng had already finished his medicine.

"Why do you have a headache again?" Feng He asked worriedly. "Have you been to the hospital recently?"

Hua Cheng smiled helplessly: "Whether you go or not, it'll be the same; it won't get any better."

"Pah, pah, pah, what discouraging words you're saying," Feng He said unhappily. "You better live a long and healthy life, staying with Wanwan and my grandson."

Hua Cheng looked bitter: "I wish I could, but unfortunately..."

The atmosphere in the private room became heavy. Feng He glanced at Feng Wan and found that she still had her eyes downcast, seemingly lost in thought.

“Miss, I’m already going to buy you a house, why are you still so stern?” Feng He sighed.

Feng Wan: "Scallion pancakes."

"What?" Feng He didn't hear clearly.

Hua Cheng also looked over.

Feng Wan paused for a moment, then looked up: "After dinner, Hua Cheng is going to buy scallion pancakes for Yun Jin."

"What's wrong with scallion pancakes? You've had a big meal, and you won't even let someone have a scallion pancake?" Feng He was a little confused. "You've already eaten a big meal, and you can't even let someone have a scallion pancake?"

Feng Wan's eyes darkened slightly: "That scallion pancake stall is in the west of the city. It takes two hours to get there and back, and the queue is long. Plus, they only set up their stall after midnight. By the time he finishes buying and gets back, it will be at least 1 a.m.

Feng He was silent for a few seconds, then burst into laughter: "What's wrong with you? So you're feeling sorry for Hua Cheng now!"

Feng Wan ignored him and said to Hua Cheng, "You have a meeting at seven o'clock tomorrow morning, so don't go."

Hua Cheng smiled but didn't speak, his manner kind but leaving no room for argument.

A hint of disappointment flashed in Feng Wan's eyes.

The meal didn't end until after 10 p.m. Hua Cheng put Feng Wan and Feng He in their car, then turned around and took his car keys from the doorman.

Just as I opened the car door, a surprised voice suddenly came from behind me: "Brother Hua?"

Hua Cheng turned around at the sound, raising an eyebrow: "What are you doing here? Did you come with your dad?"

"My dad's here too?" The young boy, dressed in trendy clothes and adorned with a bunch of jingling accessories, looked around. "Where is he?"

The visitor was Feng He's son, Feng Che, who had just turned eighteen.

Feng He himself is not good-looking, but both of his wives were great beauties. His ex-wife, Feng Wan, who has passed away, was dignified and looked like a figure in a painting, while his current wife, Feng Che, seemed to be of mixed race, with beautiful and handsome features.

Feng Che was still looking for his father when Hua Cheng turned his head back: "Stop looking, he just left."

Feng Che said "Oh," and his eyes suddenly lit up: "Where's my sister? Isn't she with you?"

"Which sister are you talking about?" Hua Cheng asked with a smile.

“Nonsense, of course it’s my Yun Jin…” Feng Che tilted his head innocently, his eyes sparkling with a hint of spring when he looked at him, “Sister.”

Hua Cheng stared at him for a few seconds, then smiled and said, "She's at home."

"Oh, I'd like to come to your house!" Feng Che quickly reached for the car door.

She had barely opened the door a crack when Hua Cheng, who was even faster, pushed it back shut, blocking the door with a half-smile: "It's too late, you're not welcome."

"Brother Hua!" Feng Che shouted in dissatisfaction.

"Stop talking nonsense, I have to go," Hua Cheng didn't want to waste time with him. "Go buy scallion pancakes for my wife."

"Scallion pancakes?" Feng Che slammed his fist on the car window. "Why are you eating scallion pancakes so late at night? Do you want her to have indigestion? Don't buy them. What if your sister gets food poisoning? Her stomach is already..."

Hua Cheng ignored his nonsense and sped off.

Feng Wan was right; that scallion pancake shop was quite difficult to buy. By the time Hua Cheng got home after buying them, it was already past 1 a.m.

Yun Jin doesn't like to turn on the lights when she's home alone. The huge house is dark. Hua Cheng tried installing nightlights before, but she would feel uncomfortable and toss and turn whenever she thought about the lights being on while she was sleeping, so he had to remove them.

It was late at night, and the house was quiet.

Hua Cheng quietly carried the scallion pancakes upstairs. Instead of immediately returning to the master bedroom, he went to the guest room to shower and change into his pajamas before heading to the bedroom.

Almost the instant he entered the room, he saw the neatly made bed by the red light from the perpetual calendar.

Is she not here?

Hua Cheng paused, then snapped on the light: "Yun Jin?"

No one answered; they really weren't there.

He immediately took out his phone to make a call, and a few seconds later, the phone on the bedside table rang.

Hua Cheng frowned, picked up his phone from the bedside table to go find someone, but as soon as he turned around, the bathroom door opened and Yun Jin came out in her pajamas.

"You're back?" she asked calmly.

Hua Cheng breathed a sigh of relief and walked towards her with a smile: "I called you just now, why didn't you answer me?"

"I don't want to talk to them."

Hua Cheng raised an eyebrow, about to ask why she didn't want to talk to him, when he smelled a faint scent of smoke and alcohol on her.

The scent was faint, but mixed, with a jumble of perfume smells, the kind you get after spending too much time in entertainment venues like bars and KTVs.

He worked as a bartender when he was 20 years old, so he is very sensitive to this kind of smell and couldn't possibly mistake it.

"You went drinking with Lan Li?" he asked.

Yun Jin took her phone from his hand: "Yeah, I went out to play for a while."

No wonder.

Hua Cheng smiled and said, "Take another shower, you smell bad."

"good."

Yun Jin unlocked her phone as she walked back to the bathroom. She had barely stopped when she saw the top message on WeChat—

"Sister, don't eat scallion pancakes too late, it will upset your stomach."

Hua Cheng: "I bought the scallion pancakes. Shall we eat them now?"

Yun Jin paused for two seconds, then said, "Tomorrow."

After saying that, he replied with a '1' to the message and closed the door behind him. Hua Cheng watched the bathroom door close in front of him, and finally, his exhaustion showed through his eyes.

He took out a bottle of vitamins, poured out two pills and swallowed them directly, then filled a kettle with water and put it on to boil.

While waiting for the water to boil, he opened his WeChat Moments and scrolled through it. He would give a like to his business partners, compliment those he could use, and directly mock his competitors.

After reviewing dozens of comments like an emperor approving a memorial, I saw Lan Li's post on WeChat Moments—

[I'm so bored, any good shows to recommend?]

Here are some comments from their mutual friends: Aren't you on a date with the CEO of Yun University? Why are you still watching dramas?

Lan Li replied: You know she's the CEO of Yunda University, so we parted ways after dinner to avoid disturbing her rest.

Hua Cheng paused, realizing that something was amiss.
