Chapter 6 A Bowl of Fragrance from a Farmhouse

Chapter 6 A Bowl of Fragrance from a Farmhouse

Liu Xiaobao's face scrunched up like a glutinous rice ball, and some of his classmates started drooling over his tea egg.

Even if you ask where he bought it, he'll still be surrounded by classmates.

The teacher came forward and helped everyone find seats.

Liu Xiaobao, still somewhat frightened: "..."

Around noon, parents were still coming from the direction of the school, asking if there were any tea eggs left. One or two tea eggs weren't enough for their kids; they weren't filling!

“No more,” Tang Yiyi shook her head.

The parent left looking disappointed. She wrote on the blackboard: "Today's dish: Farmhouse Delight, Price: Twenty."

A simple bowl of rice from a farmhouse is delicious, with eggs, lean meat, and a spicy flavor, making it appealing to most people.

In the security room, it was almost lunchtime when a colleague remarked, "I wonder what the cafeteria will serve for lunch today?"

That's true, but in summer, the school cafeteria only serves cucumbers, loofahs, eggplants, and the like. Even the cafeteria staff are tired of it, let alone the security guards, students, and teachers.

Old Wang didn't say anything; there was a good restaurant right outside the school gate.

At this moment, another colleague, Uncle Li, asked Uncle Wang, "Old Wang, where are you going to eat lunch later?"

It seems like Lao Wang hasn't been eating at the school cafeteria these past two days.

Old Wang pursed his lips. "A restaurant near the school gate."

Hearing this, Uncle Li clicked his tongue a little, saying that eating at restaurants outside was not cost-effective.

Although the food in the cafeteria is so-so, it's free; security guards and other staff members are provided with two meals a day.

Knowing what Uncle Li was thinking, Old Wang might have thought he was right in the past, but now, he didn't say anything.

When it was time to go eat, another young colleague took over the shift.

Old Wang and his companion parted ways and went in different directions.

As soon as Old Wang entered the restaurant, he saw Tang Yiyi holding an iron wok with her slender wrist and a spatula in her other hand, stir-frying the vegetables with neat and efficient movements, the light blue flames licking the bottom of the wok.

Then she added the vegetables, tossed the wok a few times, and a rich aroma of food wafted out, the air filled with the smell of eggs, meat, and spicy chili peppers, all blended together to make it incredibly delicious.

Old Wang couldn't resist heading towards the kitchen.

When Tang Yiyi saw this returning customer, she was slightly taken aback.

"Boss, what dish are you cooking?"

"A bowl of rice from a farmer's home is delicious."

As soon as she finished speaking, a bowl of fragrant rice from the farmhouse was served, steaming hot, and she took it to the customer who had ordered it.

I had just returned to the kitchen when I heard a returning customer say, "Then give me a bowl of country-style fragrant soup and some seaweed and mung bean soup."

When it came time to pay, Lao Wang exclaimed that the meal cost him almost thirty yuan, which was not cheap.

But when Tang Yiyi brought out a bowl of fragrant farmhouse-style kelp and mung bean soup, which looked delicious and appealing, Old Wang's stomach started growling.

Smelling the delicious aroma, Old Wang was somewhat delighted and praised Tang Yiyi, "Boss, every dish at your place looks delicious."

Tang Yiyi was pleased to hear this. "Thank you."

Food tastes best when it's hot. Old Wang first picked up a slice of meat, which was smooth and tender. Then he picked up an egg, which was fresh and fragrant with a perfect touch of saltiness. The chili peppers gave it its soul, and the slight spiciness was unforgettable. Then he took a bite of white rice, and it was so delicious.

Old Wang thought the meat was delicious, he loved the eggs, and the chili peppers were especially wonderful. The owner even used local chili peppers, which weren't very spicy.

His phone vibrated. He took it out and saw Uncle Li complaining in the group chat, "It's cucumber stir-fried with ham and eggplant stir-fried with meat again. I'm so tired of it! Sigh!"

Old Wang took a picture of the half-eaten "Farmer's Bowl of Fragrance" and posted it in the group chat.

He was immediately bombarded with questions from several of his colleagues, including Uncle Li.

He proudly introduced, "This is the restaurant near the school gate that I told you about. I ordered the 'Farmhouse Delight' dish, and it was absolutely delicious."

Looking at the tempting food in the picture, with its light sheen of oil coating the slices of meat and eggs, and garnished with chili peppers and garlic leaves, it smells delicious even through the screen.

Uncle Li and the others: "..." That hateful old Wang, he went out for a big meal behind their backs!

Old Wang was unaware of their grievances; he only felt that a bowl of seaweed and mung bean soup after dinner was incredibly refreshing, and life was truly wonderful.

Just then, Xiaoyu came home from school and walked into the restaurant with his schoolbag on his back.

A guest saw him and joked, "Whose child is this? He's so skinny!"

Seeing the busy figure in the kitchen, Xiaoyu put down his schoolbag and walked over, "Sister."

Hearing the familiar, childlike voice, Tang Yiyi said, "Xiaoyu, lunch is ready. Go wash your hands and eat quickly."

Tang Yiyi arranged for Xiaoyu to attend day school, which includes two hours for lunch and a midday rest.

Their lunch consisted of a bowl of fragrant rice and a loofah soup, which was enough for them.

Xiaoyu brought out bowls and chopsticks, one set for his sister and one set for him.

Xiaoyu didn't start eating until his older sister arrived. The farmhouse-style dish had chili peppers, but it wasn't very spicy, which Xiaoyu loved. The meat was delicious, fresh, and tender, and the eggs were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, which tasted great with the chili peppers.

But Xiaoyu is still a child, and he found it too spicy after eating too much.

Tang Yiyi ladled two spoonfuls of loofah soup for him, with finely minced meat spread on top of the loofah. Xiaoyu ate the tender loofah and the fragrant, distinct pieces of minced meat. His mouth felt less spicy.

After finishing his meal, Tang Yiyi ladled half a bowl of loofah soup for him. Xiaoyu said "Thank you, sister," and lowered his head to drink it, like a quail.

The loofah soup was delicious, with no strange taste and a very light flavor.

Xiaoyu finished half a bowl, but still felt a little unsatisfied.

Tang Yiyi took the dirty dishes to the kitchen to wash them, and then put them in the sterilizer.

After eating his fill, Xiaoyu felt sleepy and rested by the table.

"Guests may be coming," Tang Yiyi leaned on the table, looking towards the door.

When Xiaoyu woke up, Tang Yiyi checked the time. There were still fifteen minutes before Xiaoyu had to go to class. She washed the cherry tomatoes, bought them from the fruit stand, put them on a plate, and brought them to Xiaoyu.

"These are cherry tomatoes, Xiaoyu, would you like some?"

"I want to~"

Xiaoyu took a small tomato and put it in his mouth.

The juice bursts in your mouth, first slightly sour, then sweet, a delightful blend of sweet and sour, with the delicate flesh of the fruit to savor.

"Sister, you should eat too!" Xiaoyu didn't forget that his sister hadn't eaten yet.

Seeing Xiaoyu's satisfied expression, Tang Yiyi guessed it must be delicious, and the corners of her mouth turned up.

How could cherry tomatoes that cost only a dozen yuan not taste good? They're just a bit pricey, so she only bought one pound.

Xiaoyu went to school happily and met Teacher Wang on the way, where he greeted her with "Hello, Teacher Wang".

As a third-grade elementary school student, Lili only wants to play, and she is always frolicking even during her lunch break.

The bell rang, and most of the students in the class woke up. Xiaoyu walked in at that moment.

Seeing Xiaoyu, and remembering the delicious fish from yesterday, Lili went inside. "Tang Xiaoyu, I'll have my grandma take me to your restaurant this afternoon."

Few of Xiaoyu's classmates knew that his family owned a restaurant.

Hearing this, the drowsy elementary school student perked up and immediately started chattering, "Tang Xiaoyu, does your family own a restaurant? Can I eat at your house?" He wondered if the food at the restaurant would taste better than at home.

"I want to go too! Tell my parents to take me!"

"..."

Xiaoyu doesn't have a high profile in class, so it's rare to see his classmates being so enthusiastic.

"Of course, you are welcome to come to my family's restaurant to eat." That way, the restaurant will have business, and my sister can earn a lot of money and won't have to work so hard in the future.

The enthusiastic atmosphere continued until class started, which happened to be the Chinese class taught by the homeroom teacher, Ms. Wang.

In this lesson, Teacher Wang was going to teach sentence construction. She wrote the character "fish" on the blackboard and then asked the students to make a sentence using the character "fish".

The students below watched longingly, their minds filled with nothing but food.

Just thinking about it makes my mouth water.

Lili's deskmate is a boy with a runny nose, who is currently sucking on his fingers.

Lili couldn't stand it anymore and started fidgeting.

At this moment, Teacher Wang on the stage met her gaze and said, "Lili, you answer this question."

Without even thinking, Lili replied, "I love fried fish pieces!"

The fried fish pieces were crispy and delicious, and the fish meat was very tender. I really want to eat them now.

As soon as he finished speaking, the students burst into laughter, though no one knew who had started it.

Lili, who has always been bold, angrily asked, "Why are you laughing? Is it funny?"

She has a loud voice, and when she gets angry, no one dares to mess with her.

At this moment, Teacher Wang said, "Lili, this sentence is correct. Sit down."

Elementary school ends around 4:30 pm, but we still have to clean the classroom.

Today it was Xiaoyu's turn, and Lili and two other classmates were on duty to clean up.

Lili slung her backpack over her shoulder and said to Xiaoyu, "Tang Xiaoyu, let's go to your family's restaurant."
