Chapter 88: Work Begins

The helpless words, coupled with his helpless tone, made He Wanqing unable to utter the excuses on her lips, and she could only nod silently.

After seeing her nod, Gu Chengan held her hand with one hand and carried the backpack with the other, and they walked home together without saying a word.

Even if they met someone on the road and said hello, the couple would put on a fake smile at the same time, and only continue on their way home after dealing with the greeting.

He went back to the door, released his grip on her hand, and took out the key to open the door.

He pushed the door open and casually placed the backpack on the ground: "There is hot water in the pot and cold water in the washroom. Mix them and go wash up first."

He Wanqing, knowing she was in the wrong, looked up at him and said, "I'm going to make dinner." Just as she was about to go to the kitchen, he grabbed her hand:

"What's wrong? You wash them together after cooking, and now you have to wash them again after a while?" She looked at him with a puzzled look.

"Dinner is ready. Go wash up and then we can eat." He let go of her hand, turned around and closed the door.

"······" Now He Wanqing didn't know what to say to ease the embarrassment between the two.

"Okay, go wash up and we'll have dinner later." After saying that, he bent down, picked up the backpack on the ground and walked into the house.

Looking at the man's back as he left, she finally understood the reason for the silence along the way.

Anyone who goes home happily after work, thinking there will be dinner, will find it cold and the person is gone and won’t be in a good mood.

If you don't scold her on the spot when you find her, you can be considered well-educated.

He changed his mind again and switched their identities. Thinking of that scene, he thought it was good that she didn't use the loudspeaker to scold people. She also cooked dinner and boiled water for a bath.

The more she thought about it, the more ashamed she felt. She quickly walked into the house, quickly filled a pot of hot water for herself, returned to the bathroom, poured the hot water in, and slipped into the space to wash up.

Knowing she had done something wrong, she didn't dawdle this time like she did last night. She washed up in ten minutes and also washed her hair.

She shook the soap in the wooden tub in the bathroom twice to make the bathroom smell like soap, and then she took the dirty clothes out.

She casually put the clothes into the washing basin, ran back to the room in two steps, looked at Gu Chengan who was sorting wild vegetables, turned around and packed the dinner, put it on the kang table, and whispered:

"I'm sorry. I promise I will never go up the mountain alone again. Don't be angry, and don't tell my mom and the others."

If her mother knew what she did in the afternoon, she would probably ask the whole family to come and disturb her peace and quiet.

"Really?" Gu Chengan, who exuded an air of keeping strangers away, looked up at her. After seeing her nod again, he stood up.

"You go sit down and eat. I'll go wash my hands and I'll be right back."

She said awkwardly, "Let's eat together!" He was the one who cooked the meal, and she was the one who did something wrong, so how could she have the nerve to eat alone.

Looking back at her embarrassedly, Gu Cheng'an shook his head: "It's okay, you and I are husband and wife, there's no need to do this, eat first! I'll be ready soon." After saying that, he quickened his pace and went to the yard to wash his hands.

She turned around and looked at the food, then looked at him outside. After thinking it over, she decided to wait for him, even though she was very hungry.

"Why aren't you eating?" After washing his hands, he frowned when he saw her standing there without eating.

"Together." After saying that, he took off his shoes and got on the kang.

Before he sat on the kang, she handed him his chopsticks, and then she picked up the chopsticks and the bowl to eat.

A serving of stir-fried pork with cucumber, a serving of stir-fried dandelions, a bowl of sweetfish stewed with tofu, a bowl of corn porridge per person, and cornmeal pancakes.

Soon after dinner, she told him what she had encountered in the mountains, and got off the kang and took out two ginsengs from a pile of wild vegetables.

"This is for mom and them. Last time you gave it to mom, they didn't give it to her. Give all of this to mom!"

"Okay!" This was what she planned. She would give both families people from the same era so that no one would have any objections.

"You go to sleep first. I'll go wash up. I'll pick up the wild vegetables on the ground tomorrow morning." He said as he walked, holding the dishes and chopsticks.

"Got it." This time she didn't refuse.

She went to the yard to brush her teeth and wash her face. After watching him pick up the bucket to wash, she turned back to her room to rest.

After running around for an entire afternoon, she fell asleep as soon as she turned over on the kang. When Gu Chengan came back from washing, she was already snoring.

Seeing this, knowing that he could do nothing at night, he blew out the kerosene lamp and went to bed to rest.

A good night's sleep.

After the rooster crowed for the third time, He Wanqing got up.

Looking at the man who had already picked up the wild vegetables and prepared breakfast, and was helping her get water to wash her face, she shook her dazed head:

"What time did you get up?" How come you did all her work?

If her mother knew about this, she would definitely grab her ears and scold her.

"It's very early, hurry up and wash up and eat." Ignoring the meaning in her eyes, Gu Chengan didn't say that he had only slept for an hour.

"Okay." After saying that, he started to wash up.

While washing up, the two chatted and talked about what they were going to do today.

Until after dinner, the two went to the brigade headquarters one after the other, and only separated after meeting Chen Ping.

"Sister, this is the centimeter book, take it."

Looking at the notebook she handed over, she nodded and flipped through a few pages casually: "Nothing happened recently, right?"

"No, I marked the problematic ones just like you did before."

"Okay, I got it. You can go weed the fields or collect grass for the pigs later." Looking at the passionate team leader in front of her, she asked in a low voice.

"I'll go to the fields with you." Thinking of her own mother who was making trouble at home, she said helplessly.

Turning her head to look at her, she thought of what Gu Chengan said last night. She opened her mouth, not knowing how to tell her that Su Benjun was not suitable for her.

"Sister, just say what you want to say. Don't look at me like that. I'm scared." Noticing her gaze, Chen Ping forced a smile.

"I don't have much to say, but if you don't want to live at home, you can go find your aunt." I was just about to say go to her house.

Suddenly I remembered that she was married and the house was not big. It might be awkward for her to live there.

"I know. Grandma said so too. My eldest aunt and my youngest aunt also said that if my mother goes too far, I will pack my things and go accompany my eldest aunt."

She was disappointed that her mother insisted on listening to her aunt this time, but she also knew that apart from her father, she could only rely on herself.

Even if her grandparents help her, it will only be temporary. She will have to face her biological mother and her grandmother's relatives on her own in the future.

"It's good that you know. Don't stay at home alone like an idiot. And don't listen to your mom and go to your grandma's house alone."

Thinking about the things in her previous life that caused her fifth uncle to break off relations with her, she couldn't remember anything else except this.

"I know. Grandma, my dad, and my uncle all told her." She was not stupid. She had heard so much gossip in the village recently. How could she not be on guard?

"Don't just remember it, you have to do it, otherwise~" Everyone's exclamations interrupted her next words.

Looking at the direction of the person coming, her pupils shrank.
