Chapter 242
Jiang You, sitting in the back row with Qiu Yun in his arms, turned pale upon hearing his words.
For her, who had been raised to be a law-abiding citizen, being wanted by the police was terrifying.
I often hear on TV, "Once she's in jail, her life is ruined!"
No boss would hire an employee who's in jail. No one can remain calm when they hear someone is in jail. It's like being suspected of stealing money; if you don't clear your name in time, every time something goes missing, you'll immediately suspect them.
Such unjust discrimination can torment a person to the point of distortion.
The thought that society wouldn't accept her made Jiang You gasp for breath, but then she remembered that she was abroad, so it was alright.
Is it really alright? Back in China, Xia Yan and Song Yun could easily let her in, or they could imprison her with just a certificate of mental illness.
Jiang You pursed his lips, gazing at the scenery rushing past the car window, the black sky beginning to turn hazy white.
Darkness has its day of light, seeds buried in the soil can endure until they sprout, moss in the corner of the wall will wait for the slanting sunlight, but what about her?
It's like entering a tunnel where you can't see even a sliver of light, and you can't seem to get through it.
But why was Eugene telling her this? Did he want to see if she was scared or panicked? Or did he want to make a deal with her?
The only thing that can be traded is her body.
Yes, Eugene likes her.
Jiang You turned his head and met his green eyes in the rearview mirror.
Eugene calmly moved away, puzzled, and asked, "Speaking of which, how did you get involved with Shen Yi'an and the others? You look so ordinary."
Jiangyou gives the impression of being an ordinary person, living life at a set pace, conforming to all societal standards of 'normal' behavior.
Shen Yi'an and his group are crazy and do whatever they want. The people around them are all ambitious and full of desire for fame and fortune, and they will do anything to climb up the social ladder.
In their eyes, this is normal. They don't follow social standards because they are unwilling to settle for a mundane and stable life, petty romances, or the so-called warm home.
Logically speaking, Jiang You and Shen Yi'an are two parallel lines that will never intersect, but now they not only intersect, but Jiang You's line intersects with several other lines as well.
It should be said that Shen Yi'an and his group's lines were forcibly intersected with Jiangyou.
Eugene thought, "It's like a little lamb falling into a pack of wolves. If I don't change my old way of thinking, I'll be scared crazy."
Oh, it seems like they've gone mad.
So he was curious: how did two people from different worlds meet?
Just because they like someone? That's really strange. He couldn't imagine what Theodore and the others would like.
Just like some children cherish and protect the things they like, while others will take apart and explore them.
Theodore and his ilk belong to the latter group. The problem is that they treat people and things the same way, regardless of whether others are in pain or willing.
He didn't think there was anything wrong with Theodore and his group. It's survival of the fittest, after all. Those who stand at the top of the pyramid can do whatever they want. Otherwise, why would so many people climb up? Are they exercising?
Of course you can retaliate. No one says you can't take revenge. As mentioned above, it's a law of the jungle, as long as you can.
He came from the slums. Before he came out, every few days people from China would come with live streaming equipment to film him. He knew all too well the kindness of normal people in China, so he felt that Jiang You did not accept the logic that the strong could do whatever they wanted.
Eugene thought about many things. He glanced at the girl's profile in the rearview mirror. Jiang You didn't answer his question and was staring blankly out the window.
He pursed his lips and drove aimlessly, though he appeared irritable on the surface, his heart remained completely calm.
He was much smarter than others from a young age, and he climbed out of the slums at a young age. The famous big shots who used to look up to him had to lower themselves and ask him for favors. He had long since become indifferent to the things that happened in his childhood and could no longer be bothered by them.
But when facing this girl, there are always so many things to say, so many emotions, and a need for her comfort and touch.
The car quieted down, and they changed cars again. It wasn't until noon that Eugene led Jiang You out of the car. After several turns, they arrived at a dilapidated area.
It looks a bit like an urban village in China, but it's even older and more cramped. The roads between the buildings are only wide enough for one and a half people to walk on, and they're built very tall.
Even though it was the middle of the day, Jiang You felt that it was dark and gloomy, like a night that was about to fall.
"You wait here, I'm going in to take care of something, I'll be back in five minutes at most."
Eugene took two steps in, then stepped back, frowning as he looked at her. "You're not a three-year-old anymore, are you? You won't run around like that, and you'll scream if you're in danger, right?"
Jiang You nodded.
“You better be,” he said, walking in with unease, “I’ve never seen such a useless person as you, and I don’t even know if you can beat a child.”
Jiang listened without taking Eugene's words to heart; they left no trace in her brain.
She leaned against the wall and waited patiently.
Just then, a tall man dressed in drab gray turned into the alley from outside, and a sour smell could be smelled from a distance.
Jiang You lowered his head timidly, like a gecko, his back pressed tightly against the wall, leaving room for someone to pass.
The man stopped as he passed by: "How much?"
She paused for a moment, then immediately realized, "No, I'm not."
The man wasn't listening. He reached out and tried to grab her collar and drag her away.
The next second, the man was knocked to the ground. Eugene kicked the man hard in the stomach, squatted down and knelt on top of the man, and stabbed the knife in his hand towards the man's eyes.
The whole process took less than three seconds. Amid the man's screams, the knife stopped just above his eyes.
“I thought he was really brave,” Eugene whistled, tilting his head and tossing the knife above the man’s face, making onlookers tremble with fear.
He released the man, who immediately rolled over, crawled quickly on all fours to a certain distance, stood up, and ran frantically outside.
“If it weren’t for these special times, this knife would already be in his sights,” Eugene said with a casual smile, his words laced with regret.
He turned halfway around, saw her, and his face immediately darkened: "Are you stupid? How can there be such a piece of trash as you in this world, or are you just a slut who needs to be fucked?"
Jiang You lowered his head and shook his head: "No, no, I was too scared, my mind went blank, and I didn't react."
“That’s why I say you’re a piece of trash,” Eugene said, walking forward. “I really don’t know how you grew up to be this big.”
