Chapter Ninety-Seven
"What's there to think about?" Xia Bei stood up, raising an eyebrow slightly.
He slowly approached Jiang You and calmly unbuttoned her collar with both hands.
The man's expression was calm and composed, as if the girl was already his. His cool fingers traced down her collarbone, and he said lazily, "What difference does it make if it's a day later or a day later?"
When the second one was being untied, Jiang You hurriedly grabbed his hand.
Xia Bei looked at her, his smile growing even calmer: "What's wrong?"
She was nervous and uneasy: "Give me, give me some time, okay?"
Her mind was in complete disarray. She needed to be alone and take the time to think about the pros and cons, rather than hastily agreeing now.
Xia Bei stared at Jiang You for a moment.
He had met all sorts of women: elegant and haughty heiresses, gentle and reserved ladies from prestigious families, alluring and rebellious eccentrics, and mischievous and quirky young girls...
Whether he's a haughty, aloof, or arrogant type, a gentle and delicate type, or a passionate and bold type, as long as he shows even the slightest hint of wanting to find women, they'll flock to him like moths to a flame.
Xia Bei admires strength. No matter how strong or outstanding a woman is, in the context of a traditional patriarchal society, she cannot arouse any interest in him.
More than that, he was obsessed with ruling and controlling powerful people.
But Jiang You was an exception. In his unchanging life, this feeling surpassed his interest in ruling and controlling powerful people, making him feel like a snake was biting his heart, excited to the point of boiling blood.
Perhaps he's been in a superior position for too long, having everything under control for too long, or perhaps he's always been playing high-level games. Now, when he encounters a fool like Jiang You, he feels helpless and at a loss.
What's there to think about? The perfect answer is already laid out before her. With him, everything will fall into place.
"What's there to think about?" Xia Bei's tone was calm, but his pupils were filled with emotion. He hadn't tasted the meat yet, and he seemed a little unsteady.
Jiang You lowered his head deeply, his lips tightly closed, and he did not speak.
That's just her personality. Once she makes a firm decision about something, and others are still pressuring her, she chooses to resist by remaining silent.
Seeing that she didn't intend to speak, the man lazily moved his hand behind her.
He lowered his eyes and gave a cryptic laugh: "There's a debate in the world: which is more important, talent or hard work? What do you think?"
Jiang You blinked, wondering why the man was suddenly saying all this. All she knew was that his hand was caressing her lower back, making her feel so numb that she couldn't breathe properly.
Xia Bei seemed not to be expecting her answer and continued, "But hard work also requires talent."
The hand around her waist tightened suddenly, and Jiang You pressed herself tightly against the man's body. Suddenly, her hand gripped her chin and lifted it upwards.
Jiang You was forced to straighten his neck to meet the man's calm and deep gaze.
He looked at her as if she were prey struggling in vain in the palm of his hand. The girl's breath hitched, and her heart pounded.
"It's like someone who doesn't do well in school; she might only sleep three hours a night and spend the rest of her time studying, except for meals, to make up for her lack of talent. This kind of effort requires talent, doesn't it?"
"You must have made a study plan in junior and senior high school, intending to secretly amaze everyone. But you didn't have the talent to work hard, and you couldn't resist the primal desire to play and eat, so you had to be self-disciplined to complete your study plan. So that plan ended up gathering dust."
"Even if you realize that you need to study hard to get ahead and avoid any injustices, you still don't have the talent to work hard. Because even if you are aware of it, you can't overcome your primal desires."
"You have neither a brilliant mind nor the talent for hard work; you're just an ordinary person. Even if a great opportunity like mine were presented to you to leapfrog your social class, you'd be foolish enough to go back and think it over carefully. Think about how to get back into your comfort zone."
Xia Bei's tone was completely flat; he cruelly and coldly dissected the girl's psyche.
Releasing Jiang You's waist, he raised his hand and gently stroked her cheek: "Why is your face so pale? Is it because my words hurt your pride?"
When Jiang You hesitated to agree to be with him, his pair of peach blossom eyes finally shed their refined and gentle demeanor, revealing a flirtatious, aloof, and somewhat arrogant attitude in front of the girl.
"Do I need to apologize? Would saying it make you feel better?"
Jiang You was breathing rapidly and couldn't say a word, because Xia Bei was absolutely right.
Xia Bei chuckled lightly: "Just follow me, and you won't need to work hard or be smart to have money and power, plus your safety will be guaranteed. I promise you, even without the strange attraction, I won't cause you any trouble, and all the money and power you gain will still be yours. We each get what we want, how about it?"
