Chapter 52 Critical Section (4)

Chapter 52 Critical Region (4)

Bai Ye stood in front of the beam of light, the countdown timer ticking away.

He was torn: should he go out or not?

After much hesitation, reason prevailed over emotion, and he still had a strong desire to live.

"I want to see what the actual combat training ground is really like."

Bai Ye gripped the whip and strode into the beam of light.

The blinding light, the familiar high beams shining everywhere, constantly illuminating his face.

Bai Ye tried his best to adapt, and then quickly surveyed the surrounding environment. To his surprise, he found that the position he was standing in was exactly the same as when he first entered the instance.

He was standing in the middle of the road, on a platform slightly higher than the road.

The road is wide open in all directions, with vehicles speeding past on the six-lane highway.

The only difference was that he held a whip, making the vehicles even faster.

"The actual combat training ground is a real environment."

Bai Ye was speechless. The instructor spoke so grandly, talking about simulation training, but it was basically just throwing all the interns straight into the Third Avenue.

The only difference between this training and actual duty is the use of weapons, and the ability to discard weapons and abandon training.

Bai Ye was naturally unwilling to give up training. After quickly adjusting her mindset, she stood at her post.

Following the instructor's instructions, adjust your breathing, close your eyes, and focus your senses...

When I opened my eyes again, my field of vision had expanded, and I could clearly see the specific road conditions a kilometer away. My hearing had also become more acute, and I could distinguish even the slightest acceleration of a car.

How to determine if an oncoming car might accelerate or exhibit dangerous driving signs is something we learn in class.

Bai Ye is no longer the same innocent boy he was the first time. As the "weird" one, he enjoys the benefits his body brings and easily avoids being hit by a car several times.

Thinking of something, Bai Ye reached into his pocket and touched fifteen yellow cards, which represented his authority within the five-day duty period.

He was immediately filled with confidence, holding a yellow card in his hand and looking straight ahead.

Just then, a car a kilometer away sped towards them at an extremely high speed, and continued to increase its speed.

Bai Ye stared intently ahead, his ears constantly listening: 280 yards, 300 yards, 350 yards, 430 yards!

The maximum speed limit on the Third Avenue at night is 300 km/h, and this car was clearly speeding.

And what's worse, they're continuing to accelerate, trying to rush through the intersection.

Without a second thought, Bai Ye raised the yellow card.

In the thick night fog, lightning suddenly struck the sky, and a yellow bolt of lightning lashed down from the sky.

At the same time, directly ahead at the intersection, a large, three-dimensional, red, eye-catching sign scrolled in all directions: "Vehicle 6B2333, you are speeding. Please immediately reduce your speed to below 300 km/h."

As the text scrolled, Bai Ye noticed that the vehicle, which had been moving at high speed, had unknowingly slowed down.

Some cars even stood silently at the intersection, ignoring the honking of the cars behind them.

Bai Ye had an idea and immediately used watermelon seeds to listen to eerie thoughts.

He wanted to confirm whether the person driving was a player or a monster.

The first choice for the vehicle to be used was the car parked on the side of the road, but Bai Ye didn't know who the other party was.

However, things were better than he had imagined. Instead of listening to his strange inner thoughts one-on-one after using the watermelon seeds, the seeds would automatically choose the gossip mode.

In an instant, a flood of inner thoughts rushed over him.

"I've never seen anything like this before. This is the first time I've ever seen a yellow light on this road. What is that?"

"They really have a lot of weird methods. The previous level had special traffic lights, this level has dynamic yellow cards, and I wonder if the next level will just have a sniper car come out."

"Which car was being warned? Was it going too fast? That can't be, it was only going 80 mph."

"Isn't this a race track? Isn't this supposed to be a smooth, unobstructed race? Why are there people wearing uniforms?"

"A snake on guard? My God, where am I?"

Bai Ye listened carefully to the gossip, his brows furrowing more and more as the conversation became increasingly contradictory.

But why is that?

Before they could think it through, the warned B2333 had already accelerated to 500 mph and was rushing toward the intersection.

Clearly, the yellow card warning was ineffective for it.

Bai Ye immediately exercised his right as an enforcer of order, wielding his whip and precisely striking the car flying towards him.

"Hey, when you're whipping the car, just tilt it a little to the side. After all, you're a player."

The thought that "survival is my greatest strength" suddenly flashed through Bai Ye's mind. He immediately hooked his finger, forcefully changing the direction of the whip and striking the hood of the car.

"Bang--"

The speeding car shot straight upwards, flipped 720 degrees in mid-air, and finally plummeted vertically to the ground.

"Bang--"

Another sound.

A huge crater was smashed into the road, and the smell of gunpowder immediately filled the air.

Is the person still alive?

"Dead? Didn't he just pass out? The car's going to catch fire soon, is it a gas car or an electric car?"

"That car is going so fast! What brand is it? I haven't heard of any new models being released."

"Something is approaching. This player is probably doomed, losing at least 3 health points."

Bai Ye had already stepped off the platform and was heading to the giant crater to check the situation. His reasons were twofold: first, to identify if the driver was a player, and second, to see if the person was dead.

But upon hearing those thoughts again, his expression became even more subtle.

There's a problem, definitely a problem.

But the time and place are not right now, so I can't analyze or think about it.

Suppressing his doubts, Bai Ye picked up his whip and walked to the edge of the pit.

After glancing at the depth of the crater, and considering his own physical resilience and unique abilities, he jumped in without hesitation.

The front of the car was smashed flat, dented and shrunken into a ball, as if it were embedded perfectly into the ground. The driver's seat and the passenger seat were also crushed into a line, with only about a finger's width of space to see the internal structure.

Bai Ye grabbed the back of the car and tried to lift it up, but to his surprise, he managed to get a hold of it easily.

So he leaped out, taking the car with him directly out of the deep pit.

Then, they casually tossed it onto the street.

This action has once again stirred up countless gossipy thoughts.

While listening to the gossip, Bai Ye went to pry open the front door of the car.

They tore, twisted, and forcibly expanded the gap, finally finding the driver in a crack.

Poor thing, it went from three-dimensional to two-dimensional, flat like a piece of paper.

Bai Ye picked up the paper, laid it flat on the side of the road, and then turned around to look at the other vehicles that were secretly parked on the side of the road.

After thinking for a moment, I walked toward one of the cars.

"What's going on? What's going on?! Why is the uniform walking towards me?"

"Oh my god, I was just eating some melon seeds on the side of the road. I didn't break any traffic rules. Am I going to get invited for questioning?"

"No, I have to slip away."

In the blink of an eye, just as the driver was about to slip away, Bai Ye grabbed the hood and, step by step, moved to the driver's seat.

He knocked on the car window twice.

Three seconds later, the car window rolled down, revealing a bitter face inside.

Bai Ye was somewhat surprised that he could see a clear face.

Is this person not a player?

"Officer, I was just passing by."

The driver was almost in tears. How dare he stop in the road to watch the commotion?

But there's nothing we can do; everyone does it, and the law doesn't punish everyone.

"I was thinking, so many cars have stopped, so if I stop for a bit, I probably won't get a ticket," the driver tried to explain, while pulling other cars into the water.

Looking up at Bai Ye, it seemed that all the vehicles speeding along the three main roads had stopped.

But upon closer inspection, it became clear that they hadn't stopped; rather, the space itself had frozen.

But none of those people noticed.

Bai Ye turned around again and said, "Make a rescue call and have someone come and take it away."

"Will I lose points?"

Bai Ye frowned, then shook his head.

The driver was overjoyed and pulled out his phone to dial, "Hello 120? This is Third Avenue. Yes, yes, someone's car has overturned. The driver is currently unconscious and in critical condition. Please send an ambulance as soon as possible."

"Officer, can I go now?" the driver asked anxiously.

Bai Ye remained silent for a moment, then waved his hand.

The driver, feeling like he'd been granted a pardon, immediately drove off.

A few seconds later, the feeling of stagnation disappeared, and the vehicle resumed driving, but the speed was deliberately reduced, and no one dared to speed anymore.

It seems that what just happened left a shadow in everyone's hearts.

Bai Ye stood on the platform, watching the ground gradually heal itself and the vehicles and drivers slowly disappear, lost in thought.

After finishing his first night shift, Bai Ye was given an hour of rest.

Although he didn't know how the three major roads operated during the rest period, it was none of his business.

He followed the beam of light back into the darkness, sat down cross-legged, rested his chin on his hand, and began to think about the events of the day.

First, the use of the whip had an effect that far exceeded his expectations and differed from the instructor's explanation.

When it came to choosing weapons, the interns seemed quite experienced and all went for daggers. Later, I overheard them whispering that daggers were very powerful.

The remaining few whips were at best defensive weapons.

A defensive weapon that can send a car flying with a single whip? Bai Ye clearly didn't believe it.

Secondly, there are the drivers who stopped; their inner thoughts are too complicated and contradictory.

What Bai Ye observed was: the car speed reached a maximum of 500 km/h, the driver's face was blurred, a three-dimensional warning was issued after a yellow card warning, a deep pit was created after the use of the weapon whip, and a flat, paper-like figure appeared.

The drivers can be roughly divided into three categories.

The first type is those whose perception is consistent with his own and who believe that the person who was smashed is a player, and who are concerned about whether the person will lose health points.

The second type accurately perceives their surroundings and knows it's a three-way road. However, they cannot see the three-dimensional yellow sign warning and instead mistake it for a yellow light. They cannot see the deep pothole or the flat, paper-like figure; they can only see that the driver was seriously hit.

The third type is completely ignorant of the environment, finds it strange whether traffic lights are there or not, cares about whether the vehicle is a gasoline car or an electric car, and even calls 120 for help.

In the game, the emergency number is 211.

Bai Ye thought of the driver he had briefly spoken to earlier that day. He could see the driver's face clearly, but the driver called him "police uncle".

And finally, the ambulance was dialed...

Many of the details are from his world during his lifetime.

Bai Ye stroked his whip, unable to help but wonder: Why is this instance called the Critical Card? Does it impede the location, or the people?

"That's strange. Are you hiding something from me?" Bai Ye couldn't help but ask.

In the darkness, a crisp "ding" sound rang out.

[Congratulations on discovering a new world! The Critical Zone is now officially open to you.]
