Chapter 51 Critical Region (3)
After the second day of study, Bai Ye organized some more information.
First of all, the city I live in has a very special name: Liudaokou.
Regarding Liudaokou, online maps do not show it. On the map, there is only a blurry area, roughly indicating its location.
Secondly, the instructors provided many pictures, and those pictures were what was called "things".
The other interns nodded in agreement, without any surprise.
However, when Bai Ye looked at those pictures, they were all blurry, but in order not to become an outcast, he chose to remain silent.
Finally, before actual combat training, there are only two weapon options: a whip or a dagger.
However, most of the interns scrambled to choose the dagger, and those who were slow were forced to get the whip.
He was one of the slow-handed ones.
Bai Ye looked down at his notes, the city blurred, "things" blurred, an unfavored whip.
Great, the buffs seem to be fully stacked.
The instructor stood in front of a door and called out the trainees' numbers according to their assigned numbers. Those whose numbers were called had to enter the door immediately.
It is said that the training ground is inside.
Bai Ye was pondering with his notebook when he suddenly heard the instructor shout, "Bai Ye, number 102, prepare to enter the training field."
"yes!"
He put the notebook in his pocket, gripped his weapon tightly, and walked step by step toward the instructor.
Before entering, the instructor confirmed again, "Bai Ye, number 102, five days of handheld weapon training, is that confirmed?"
Bai Ye thought for a moment, but couldn't help asking, "Instructor, what if we can't hold on?"
Liao Xianfeng was stunned, seemingly not expecting that someone who was part of the Order would ask such a question.
Coming to his senses, his face darkened. "Number 102, only the strong can become Order Keepers. If you can't even persevere in practical training, this job is probably not for you. You can choose to throw away your weapon and give up the training."
Throwing away weapons is tantamount to giving up combat training.
Bai Ye memorized the rules, then nodded, "Understood, Instructor. I'm ready."
Liao Xianfeng turned to the side, letting the trainees open the door themselves.
Bai Ye glanced back and saw more than a dozen of his classmates behind him, their faces tense, seemingly also looking forward to it.
Facing the door again, Bai Ye took a deep breath, gripped the whip tightly once more, and slowly raised his free hand to push the door open.
The door was very light and opened with a push.
But the world inside the door was pitch black, without any light, or even colorless darkness.
This door is more like the gaping maw of an abyss.
The white night instinctively resisted; this unknown darkness and blackness was simply too terrifying.
However, after a few seconds of hesitation, a tremendous force struck from behind, accompanied by the instructor's shout of "Get in there quickly!" Bai Ye staggered forward. Before he could straighten up, the only light behind him vanished.
The door closed.
Bai Ye immediately stood up straight, turned around, and reached for the door.
But the door was gone.
No matter how you touch it, there's nothing around you; you can't touch anything real.
"Did the instructor really push me that hard? He sent me flying several meters away!"
"No, that's not right! When I almost fell, I clearly felt the light right under my feet, which means I had only gone a little bit inside the door."
"so……"
Bai Ye looked terrified; the door had truly vanished without a trace.
In the live-fire training ground, before we could even figure out what was going on, the only exit was gone!
Bai Ye instinctively gripped the whip with both hands; it was his only weapon for "surviving" in this dark place.
Where would those things come from?
"Damn it, why can't I see what those things look like? Are they human, ghost, or some kind of monster? I have no information at all."
"Why is there no land under my feet? It feels so light and I can't find any solid ground to step on."
It felt like walking in the air, with no clear path in any direction, just aimlessly wandering around, making my mind even more tense.
The lack of time and space leaves people feeling desolate.
Bai Ye couldn't help but wonder if he was the one who was supposed to be "something," thrown into this black hole, waiting to be slaughtered.
Keep walking, keep walking...
Bai Ye wasn't sure how many hours she had been walking; maybe six or seven hours? Or maybe only an hour had passed.
Just as he was exhausted and thirsty and wanted to sit down and rest, a faint light appeared.
The light was faint and small, as if it were coming from a very distant place.
But the only glimmer of light in the darkness was a lifeline.
Bai Ye didn't bother to discern the truth, nor did he care whether there was any danger at the end of the light. He took off running, heading straight for that beam of light.
Closer, even closer.
Bai Ye couldn't help but reach out to grab the light, but just as he got infinitely close, he was pulled back by a force.
He instinctively raised the whip in his hand and swung it behind him, but changed direction at the last minute when he heard the other person call out "Brother".
"Hey buddy, don't just hit people like that. This whip sucks blood, and it'll make me lose health points easily."
He then pulled the man back further, trying to avoid the beams of light. "Brother, are you new here? You can't go out yet. If you want to move around in this city, you have to wait until dark. After dark, the defenses there will be weaker, and then we'll have a chance."
I rambled on and on, but the other person remained silent, as if they were mute.
That's infuriating.
"No, can't you speak properly? I've said so much to you, why don't you just say something?"
"Or are you not a player?"
Bai Ye gripped the whip, took deep breaths, and then even deeper breaths, finally managing to calm himself down.
But when he opened his mouth, his voice still trembled, "Gou... Gou..."
"Hey kid, how dare you swear at me like that?" The guy who's always surviving is furious.
Bai Ye grabbed the other person's wrist tightly, unwilling to let go.
After a long while, he finally found his voice, "Survival, that's me."
"Day and night?"
"Yes, it's me."
"What's going on? The instances are overlapping again? How did we end up together?"
When "Survival is the Strongest" saw Bai Ye, he was not happy at all, but instead full of worry. "Generally speaking, overlapping dungeons mean increased difficulty. I spent money, and it was not easy to get a relatively easy one, oh my god!"
"What dungeon did you draw?" Bai Ye asked.
I'm not hiding my secret: "【Speed of Life and Death】is a racing game instance. It's actually quite simple; it's just a race in a strangely guarded racing zone. The starting point is where the beam of light begins. Follow the signs and speed forward, overcoming any obstacles you encounter until you reach the finish line. Of course, the strange creatures blocking your way are all obstacles, so you must be careful of their attacks."
After a pause, I, the strongest survivor, retorted, "You also got the racing game instance during the day?"
Bai Ye's expression was quite unpleasant.
Using the dim light, he carefully observed the person in front of him, trying to discern the subtle facial expressions as the other person spoke.
I want to know if saying "survival is the best" is a lie.
"I'm asking you a question, why are you being so hesitant?" The guy who's always trying to survive pushed him away. "Are we even brothers anymore?!"
He probably wasn't lying.
Trust your intuition.
After much hesitation, Bai Ye decided to take a gamble and said when asked again, "I drew the [Critical Point Card]."
"ah?"
"Survival is the strongest" was completely bewildered and started to recall, "Are there such dungeon cards? I've never seen one before."
Bai Ye: "I don't know, but there's one thing I can tell you."
"What's the matter? Is it this whip? I must say, you're quite something, snatching it from the monster, weren't you?"
"In my own instance, I am an Order Keeper. Based on your description, if I'm not mistaken, I am the 'Oddity' you speak of, and my mission is to stop you—even to annihilate you."
To survive, I remain silent.
Bai Ye remained silent.
Both of them were processing the information they already knew.
Finally, the survivor spat and cursed, "Bullshit, what kind of dungeon card is this?"
“Maybe my guess is wrong,” Bai Ye couldn’t help but say.
"I'm the strongest at surviving," he cursed, "Get lost! I just took that whip from you yesterday and lost 2 health points."
Bai Ye gripped the whip tightly and even took a step back.
The action was subconscious, but after it was done, I was stunned to find that I had been on guard to survive, afraid that the other party would snatch the whip.
The surroundings were very dark, and Bai Ye's movements were extremely subtle. I, the strongest survivor, didn't see them. Instead, I focused on the beam of light and scratched my head vigorously.
"What do we do? Our missions conflict, so we can't go out together."
"Forget it, forget it. I've run into you before, so I'll go first. I don't want to run into you, the weirdo on duty."
While Bai Ye was stunned, Gou Huo Wo Zui Zhong Sheng had already started warming up, poised to charge forward.
While warming up, he shared his experience, "Be careful during the day when you're on duty. We players drive really fast, at least 300 miles per hour. If we hit you, we're done for. Our bodies are fragile; a collision like that would be fatal. Or maybe you won't die, but you'll lose health points, which is still pretty bad. Be careful."
After thinking for a moment, he added, "Whip your whip and try to hit the car. They're all players, don't kill anyone."
"I'm the best at surviving," I said, scratching my head. "This is just a suggestion. It depends on your own mission. I'm leaving now."
Bai Ye watched as the other person rushed towards the beam of light, until it reached the end, at which point the figure immediately vanished into nothingness, and at the same time a car descended from the sky.
The shadow easily jumped into the car, which roared off and sped away. The last glimpse of shadow vanished completely in the beam of light.
Bai Ye stared blankly at the car speeding away, completely dumbfounded.
What should we do?
If the people sitting in those passing vehicles are all players, then wouldn't this practical training be a "battle" between yourself and the players?
Or should we say, they killed each other?
"Is it because they are players that I can't see their appearance?" Bai Ye murmured to himself.
Beyond the beam of light, Bai Ye stood for a while longer. During this time, occasionally one or two figures would rush out. Just like "I'm the Strongest at Surviving," they would jump into a car at the far end and quickly leave.
"Attention all trainees, the countdown to the five-day practical training has begun."
Bai Ye was startled and looked up to see a countdown timer appear out of nowhere, currently displaying 7199:59:59.
Time is ticking away, second by second.
Almost simultaneously, another voice rang out in the darkness, "Attention all trainees, the objective of the combat training is to eliminate 100 items during the duty period. The first to complete this task will secure a ranking and may leave the combat training field early."
Bai Ye felt a chill run through her body, sensing an endless stream of malice surging towards her.
To break free from the half-monster body, one must kill 100 monsters.
At this very moment, his training mission is also to eliminate 100 things.
