Chapter 8 Deliveryman (8)
"Shuangshuang, the ceremony begins."
The door was pushed open, and the groom stood in the doorway, a hint of joy on his face. "Shall I take you downstairs?"
The bride hummed in agreement, added a touch of color to the corner of her eye, and only when she was finally satisfied did she press her head back down.
Bai Ye followed the two newlyweds downstairs and saw that the sofa and coffee table in the living room had been cleared out. From the entrance, rows of mahogany chairs with backs were neatly arranged on both sides.
At the end of the two rows was an eight-immortal table, with two mahogany chairs on either side of the table.
Bai Ye overheard the conversations around him and realized that the so-called ceremony was actually the tea ceremony for the bride upon entering the house.
The bride serves tea to the groom's elders and relatives, greets them, and then receives red envelopes, signifying that they are now family.
But Bai Ye didn't quite understand why this kind of thing couldn't be done at the dinner table.
The bride raises her glass, stands up to toast the elders, and drinks it all, isn't that enough?
A middle-aged woman nearby laughed out loud, "Young man, you must be from the bride's family, right? Your etiquette isn't quite right. The tea ceremony for changing the bride's address should be formal, and the bride will have to kneel down in a bit."
"What?!"
Bai Ye was stunned. Why did he have to kneel down to serve tea?
What kind of logic is that!
"Come over here quickly and help serve the tea," the groom urged again.
Bai Ye didn't have time to think about it. She ran to the groom's side and was then arranged to follow behind the bride, carrying her a tea tray.
On the tea tray were cups of jujube tea. The tea was dark red in color, and under the rippling water, one could vaguely see the jujubes crawling.
On the other side of the bride, a young girl was holding a red carpet.
"Please have the bride serve tea."
Someone shouted.
The girl beside her immediately put down the red carpet she was holding and helped the bride kneel on it. Bai Ye was still standing there dumbfounded when the girl urged, "Hurry up, give the bride some tea."
"Ah! Okay."
Bai Ye approached with the tea tray, then knelt down to make it easier for the bride to take it.
"Sis, this is on your right, be careful it's hot."
The bride, with her red veil covering her face, precisely located the tea tray and took a cup of jujube tea from it.
"This is my second aunt," the girl introduced to the bride.
So the bride called out, "Second Aunt, please have some tea."
The old lady sitting in the chair smiled, took the teacup, took a sip, and took out a red envelope from her pocket, placing it directly on the tea tray.
Bai Ye almost lost his grip, and was extremely surprised.
What's inside? It looks so light, yet it's so heavy?
"Shuangshuang has come into our family. From now on, she and Akai should get along well. Second Aunt wishes you a long and happy marriage."
"Thank you, Second Aunt."
Then came the second, the third...
Everything seemed to be going smoothly, except that Bai Ye's tea tray was getting heavier and heavier, and everyone else was relaxed and happy.
However, when the tea was offered to the sixth person, the old man in front of him refused to drink it.
His face was long and drawn, and he snorted, "How can Ah Kai's little wife be so ignorant? Doesn't she know the proper etiquette for serving tea?"
The bride held her teacup without moving.
The girl next to her immediately whispered a reminder, "Bride, the old man wants you to kowtow."
"Where is it?" the bride asked, puzzled.
The girl added, "The aunts are all reasonable, but the old man has a bad temper, so please bear with him."
The bride paused for a moment, then chose to do as instructed.
But as soon as he bent down, the head rolled off the neck. Covered with a red veil, it was round and plump like a ball, rolling around and making a big circle in the living room.
"Hahaha--"
Immediately, all the guests in the living room burst into laughter.
The old man in front of me laughed the loudest, seemingly satisfied.
Amid the laughter, the bride remained kneeling, but her neck slowly turned, as if silently surveying the entire living room.
Seeing that something was wrong, Bai Ye immediately put down the tea tray and ran towards the still rolling head. Just as he picked up the head, screams echoed throughout the hall.
Just as I turned around, the person's head flew out to the side and behind me right in front of me.
"puff--"
Fresh blood gushed from the head and neck.
Bai Ye couldn't dodge in time and got sprayed all over his face.
It was the first time he had ever seen a fountain of blood. He realized that when a major artery was cut open, blood really did flow like a waterfall!
Bai Ye wiped his face, covered his head, and quickly backed away, but the further he retreated, the more headless people he saw. He looked around and realized that, apart from himself, no one else in the entire living room had a head still intact.
"!"
Bai Ye was stunned, clutching the head in her arms, not knowing what to do.
"What are you laughing at? Is it funny that your head fell off? Now you can laugh all you want."
The bride had stood up at some point, turned her neck and locked onto her target, "Xiaobai, come here quickly."
noob?
Who is that?
Bai Ye was still in a trance.
The bride's tone was not very happy, "What, do you also want to experience what it's like to be headless?"
Ah, right! I'm Xiaobai.
Bai Ye quickly walked over, holding her head, then adjusted her position and offered her head with both hands, saying, "Sister, here's your head."
The bride pressed her head back down, glanced around the living room, and said, "Father-in-law and mother-in-law, I have a bit of a temper, please bear with me."
After saying that, she looked in the groom's direction and said, "Kai, I'm tired."
The groom had just found his head and hadn't even had time to put it back down before he jogged through the crowd to his bride's side.
"Then you should go back and rest. I'll handle things here."
The head was held in his hand, and a strange smile appeared on his lips.
After the groom finished speaking, he winked at Bai Ye, "Quickly take the bride upstairs to rest."
His eyes darted around so fast that the groom's left eyeball popped out.
The bride waved her hand, "Let Xiaobai stay and help out, I'll go upstairs and rest."
The groom helped the bride leave, and before leaving, he instructed Bai Ye to take good care of the guests and elders in the living room.
The implication is that the job of finding and forcing someone to do something is now yours.
Bai Ye stood in the center of the living room, a 360-degree panoramic view of the headless column of blood spurting out. Whether alive or dead, everyone was stunned by this scene.
He couldn't help but touch Er Kang's hand, "Brother..."
But the groom ignored him and disappeared in a few steps.
"Young man, hurry up and help me find the head." One of the customers was already getting impatient.
Once the first person spoke up, everyone else joined in with their complaints.
"Young man, where's my head? Help me find it first, I still need to boil some water."
"Call me first, I have to go help in the kitchen."
"Go find the old man first, or he'll get angry."
"Yes, yes, the old man's head is the most important thing."
So the headless man wandered around the room, searching for the old man's head.
Bai Ye was jostled around by these people. At first, his face twitched in horror, but gradually, he became numb.
As long as these things don't hurt me, let them be!
"Young man, don't just stand there, hurry up and start looking!" Someone shoved Bai Ye.
Bai Ye wiped the blood from his face, smiled and nodded, "I'll look for it right away. Everyone, please don't rush. Can you all sit down first? I'll look for the head for you one by one."
"That's fine, then keep looking."
Bai Ye replied as he searched, "No problem, I'm good at finding things, I guarantee I won't miss a single one."
The first thing they found was the old man's head. Bai Ye had secretly sized up this arrogant old man before.
The other person had a scar on their face, the scar was shaped like a centipede, and when they found the head, the scar was slowly crawling up their face.
Ignoring her nausea, Bai Ye held her head and went to find the old man to press it back down.
The old man twisted his neck, tried it, and was quite satisfied. He then got up and left.
Before leaving, I placed a red envelope on the tea tray.
Huh?
Even in this situation, do you still remember the red envelope?
Bai Ye was puzzled for a moment, then looked for the second person, her second aunt, then her third aunt, then her fifth aunt...
The elders had all secretly observed Bai Ye when he carried the tea tray, and they could remember almost everything.
But the large group of guests standing behind him put him in a difficult position.
I can't remember it, I simply can't remember it!
Half an hour later, Bai Ye stood side by side with each head in the center, trembling.
The temperature in the living room is getting lower and lower, and these eerie creatures are getting angry.
So, with a forced smile, he quickly explained, "I'm from the bride's family, and I'm not familiar with any of you relatives and friends. This is our first time meeting. How about we do a guessing game? You describe your face shape or features, and I'll find them for you in this group."
"What if we can't find the right one?"
A headless man stepped forward, seemingly finding the game quite enjoyable. "Young man, if you make a mistake, you'll be punished."
Bai Ye's heart skipped a beat. Punishment? How?
How could I possibly endure such bizarre methods!
"Brother, please be merciful." Bai Ye immediately clasped his hands in a fist salute.
Another headless figure pulled the person back, saying, "How dare you cause such a scene at someone's wedding!"
"Isn't that just for fun? I'm not going to do anything. I'll just give each of the young guys who got the wrong one a pack of cigarettes."
"That's not bad, a pack of cigarettes for the man and a pack of candy for the woman."
Bai Ye wanted to say no, but looking at the scene before her, she didn't dare to say it.
"Okay, it's settled then, let's get started..."
When the groom came downstairs again, the living room was quiet, except for Bai Ye, who was sitting on the floor in a daze.
He walked over, squatted down, and heard the other person mutter to themselves, "It's over, it's all over, my life is over..."
"What's going on?" the groom asked, pushing the door open.
Bai Ye came to her senses, looked at the bloodied and mangled face in front of her, and was not afraid at all.
He grabbed the person and hugged them tightly.
Then she burst into tears, "Brother, I've lost so much! I only earned 300 yuan today running errands, I worked my butt off for just 300 yuan. But just now, I gave away 1600 yuan! 1600 yuan! How many jobs do I have to do to earn that back?!"
Because he paid on the spot, Bai Ye had no money in his pocket, which unintentionally triggered a hidden mechanism.
Only then did he realize that the monster was so blood-sucking, and that it even offered to pay on credit.
The 1,600 was handed over immediately, and then a hellish, nightmarish mechanical voice rang out.
[Congratulations, player! You have successfully triggered the loan mechanism and borrowed 1600 Ghost Coins. The Ghost Coins have been issued; please check your account.]
Bai Ye immediately opened the screen and found 1600 Ghost Coins in his account. But after looking at it for only two seconds, he immediately turned it into smoke candy and dispersed it.
That's not all, this damn thing has ridiculously high interest rates on loans!
Calculated at a daily interest rate of 1%.
In other words, the annual interest rate is more than three thousand times.
Bai Ye seemed to see his endless days of working odd jobs.
"Brother, I'm afraid I'm finished."
At this moment, Bai Ye's heart was about to die.
Let alone a headless ghost or a mud-faced monster, even if there were limbs torn into pieces right in front of him, he wouldn't even lift an eyelid.
Heavily indebted, Bai Ye felt as if he had fallen into a hellish purgatory.
