Chapter 6 Deliveryman (6)
This time, Bai Ye received a delivery service request.
It's still that same phone, and that same old-fashioned electric scooter.
[DeadMeErrands: Wedding Decoration - 1 Person - 300 Yuan]
[Address: No. 44, Group 44, Huangquan Village, Mr. Zhang]
The errand-running business is more arduous than food delivery, and some jobs can take all day long.
The company is very generous in this regard; they don't take a cut of the 300. In other words, as long as Bai Ye does a good job and gets a five-star review from the client, he earns all 300.
Bai Ye drove his electric car, following the navigation to Huangquan Village.
I felt great all the way.
“300 yuan, 300 yuan. I can get this money as long as I’m at the wedding and ready to be at your beck and call.”
"Wedding arrangements are quite easy; just follow the host's wishes, it shouldn't be difficult."
"Delivering errands is better than food delivery. If I take on more delivery orders in the future, my life points will increase faster."
"Today is a good day, a big day for me to make money..."
Bai Ye hummed a little tune and hurried to Huangquan Village.
As soon as you enter the village, you see a huge banner covered in bloodstains, with dark red blood dripping down.
The sign read: "Congratulations to the newlyweds, Zhang Kai and Li Shuangshuang, may you have a long and happy marriage!"
Below the two characters for "Groom Zhang Kai" was a smiling face soaked in blood.
Bai Ye looked at the banner in front of him and felt a chill run down his spine.
Then I thought of the order location: Huangquan Village.
Am I taking orders from the human realm?
"Hey! You standing there, I'm talking to you. Are you the errand boy I called?" someone suddenly called out.
Bai Ye looked in the direction of the sound and saw a young man standing at the entrance of a two-story building not far away. He was dressed in a suit and tie, looking quite formal.
The young man walked up to Bai Ye, looked him up and down, and nodded. "He looks honest. You're the delivery guy I called, right?"
Bai Ye nodded, feeling much more at ease seeing that the other person looked respectable.
Then he said, "My name is Bai Ye. I've taken on today's errand. Am I here to help set up the wedding venue?"
The young man then smiled and said, "Yes, I'm getting married today, and I'm short-handed. Come in and help me inflate the balloons."
Bai Ye followed the groom Zhang Kai inside. They saw almost no one along the way, especially inside the building, where there wasn't a single person in the entire building.
"..."
Is this a wedding scene?
The groom just said that everyone is very busy and there aren't enough people, but that's completely untrue!
The groom didn't explain, but took a bag and said, "Inside are all the balloons, and there's an electric air pump. Help me make a balloon arch. If there are any balloons left, tie them up the stair railing."
He paused, then added, "My wedding room is on the second floor, on the right. If there's any left over after you've finished tying the stair railing, you can throw it all into the room."
After saying that, he turned and left.
Bai Ye opened the bag and roughly counted them. Good heavens, there were almost a thousand balloons.
It's so hard to earn 300 yuan!
But since I've already accepted the order, there's no way I can cancel it, so I'd better hurry up and get to work.
Bai Ye glanced at the living room, which was mostly set up, with even the sofa covered in red satin.
You can't just sit anywhere in these places, so Bai Ye could only stand by the wall and start inflating the balloon.
One, two, three...
After about an hour of inflation, the number of balloons filling the arch was complete.
He walked to the doorway and saw that the archway frame had already been erected; all that was needed was to tie the balloons on.
However, there were no stools or ladders.
What should we do?
As I was thinking, an old man poked his head out from behind the door, touching it. "Need a ladder?"
Bai Ye was startled and almost dropped the balloon. When did this person appear?
Oh no! There was no one in the living room just now.
The old man continued to pry open the door and ask, "Do you need a ladder?"
"Ah! Oh, right, I need a ladder. Where can I find one?" Bai Ye tried to ignore the other person's elusive nature.
However, as soon as he finished speaking, the old man opposite him bent over, curled up into a ball, and in the next second turned into a dusty, old wooden ladder.
"!"
Bai Ye stared at the ladder in front of him, momentarily at a loss for what to think about.
Looking up at the building in front of him again, he had a vague feeling that the building seemed to be moving.
Looking down at the balloons again, I wondered if one of these things would suddenly become huge.
"Hey! Hurry up, why isn't the balloon arch ready yet? Hurry up!" The groom suddenly shouted from the front door.
Bai Ye was startled for the second time; the groom's appearance was too bizarre.
But looking at the ladder that the old man had turned into, the groom seemed quite "kind," at least he hadn't transformed into something else to scare him.
Bai Ye walked over and held the ladder, the warmth of which made his hair stand on end.
It is clearly a ladder, but it is the real touch of an old man.
Touching the ladder handle, you can even clearly feel the old man's bones.
"Crack—crack—"
The old man's bones kept cracking as the ladder was moved.
Bai Ye kept repeating to himself, "It's nothing new, it's nothing new."
Before climbing the ladder, he hesitated for a moment, then bowed to it, saying, "Sir, I'm sorry you had to go through this."
After speaking, he carried a large bunch of balloons, scurried up the stairs, and quickly got to work.
After climbing down the ladder, Bai Ye felt very uneasy and looked around for a rag, but couldn't find anything.
He simply picked up his sleeve and wiped each step of the stairs clean. "Sir, I'm so sorry for getting you dirty. I didn't mean to. It's just that the archway is too high."
The ladder didn't say anything, and turned away.
After taking only a few steps, its upper body transformed into that of an old man, and it crawled away quickly on all fours.
Bai Ye was stunned for a moment. Afraid that the groom would suddenly appear and urge her again, she immediately went to pop the remaining balloons and then started tying the stair railing.
Wrapping balloons is a skill; if you're not careful, they can easily burst.
Bai Ye tied them very carefully, afraid of puncturing them, but one or two would always burst from being squeezed.
The moment the balloon burst, a stream of gas was released, which smelled terrible and had a fishy odor.
There was also a rotten smell.
Bai Ye was tied up from the first floor to almost the second floor, and a total of 12 balloons were popped. The smell made me want to vomit.
The scene gave him the illusion that he was at a corpse-slaughtering site, and that the corpses seemed to have been decomposing under the high temperature for many days.
As soon as the imagined scene appeared, Bai Ye suddenly felt a tickle on his hand.
Looking down, he saw soft, short maggots crawling out of the balloon and wriggling onto his arm.
"vomit--"
Bai Ye threw away the balloon and immediately vomited.
At the same time, use your other hand to vigorously swat off the worms on your arm.
The worms fell to the floor with a "sizzle" and disappeared.
"Hey, don't slack off! I called you here to work, are you just standing there enjoying yourself?"
The groom stood at the bottom of the stairs on the first floor, somewhat angry, "Do you still want to make money? With this attitude, I'm going to file a complaint against you."
complaint?
Wouldn't that mean I'd get my pay docked?
Deducting money from my pay is unacceptable, absolutely unacceptable!
Bai Ye immediately waved his hand, "Brother, don't be angry. I didn't eat breakfast, I just had low blood sugar. I'll start cooking right away."
"Didn't have breakfast? You should have said so earlier! It's a wedding at my house, there's bound to be plenty of food!"
The groom went straight to the kitchen and soon brought out a bowl of noodles. "Come down here and have a bowl of noodles first."
Bai Ye looked down at the bowl of noodles in the groom's hand. The broth was red, thick like blood. And every single noodle inside was wriggling.
"Come down and eat your noodles quickly. If you faint, I'll have to pay you back," the groom urged.
Bai Ye wore a smile, but his heart was filled with sorrow. At this moment, he wished he could slap himself twice.
Serves you right for being so foul-mouthed, and for saying you have low blood sugar.
Now, the question is, should I eat this bowl of noodles or not?
After thinking for a while, Bai Ye still refused, "Brother, I feel better now. I'm not dizzy or blurry-eyed, and I can work for another eight hours."
"You really won't eat?"
"Brother, I'm not hungry."
"Okay, then it's your own choice not to eat it."
The groom carried the noodles away and disappeared again without a trace.
Bai Ye looked at the balloons again, no longer caring whether those disgusting things would pop out again; he just wanted to finish his work as soon as possible.
After tying the handrails of the two staircases together, there were still dozens of balloons left. Following the groom's instructions, he went to the room on the right-hand side of the second floor.
As I pushed open the door, a blast of cool air hit me.
Bai Ye was shivering from the cold as she stood at the door. The temperature inside the room was frighteningly low, even more so than the freezer compartment of a refrigerator.
But don't look at what's improper. There's nothing interesting to see in someone else's new house, so just put the balloons in and be done with it.
Bai Ye threw dozens of balloons into the room.
Then he quickly closed the door, turned around, and went downstairs.
The groom was standing at the front door, his back to the door, looking ahead.
Bai Ye walked over. "Brother, I've finished my work. Now, I need to do—"
The word "ma" stuck in Bai Ye's throat. He stood stiffly, facing a bloodied and mangled face.
The two were only thirty centimeters apart, and they were looking directly at each other, so the impact was considerable.
Bai Ye had never seen such a ravaged face up close before; the facial features were completely indistinguishable.
Especially on the left side of the head, there seemed to be a large dent, with a piece of skull piercing through and protruding from the eye socket. The left eyeball hung precariously from that bone spur.
Bai Ye took a deep breath, trying to ignore the scene before her and maintaining a smile.
"Brother, I've popped all the balloons."
"Finished? So fast."
The bloody, mangled face in front of him twisted and transformed, returning to its intact state. "After you're done fighting, just wait. The bride will be here soon. We don't have enough people to block the door, so go and make up for it."
When getting married, the bride's family will block the door, and it is the groom who is blocking the door, so the process of proposing to marry is not easy.
But will the groom's family also block the door?
Bai Ye had never heard of this before. "Brother, isn't it inappropriate for us to stop the bride?"
I just don't think this is reliable.
The groom remarked, "I also felt it wasn't right, but the elders in my family insisted on stopping it, saying it's a custom. However, we didn't make things difficult for the bride; we just asked for a red envelope or a pack of cigarettes."
After saying that, he added, "Be quick-witted and open the door when the time is right. Don't let the bride suffer any injustice."
So he was an inside man.
Bai Ye understood and patted his chest to assure her, "I can do this job, no problem."
As noon approached, a number of people gradually appeared in the courtyard. These people seemed to have appeared out of nowhere, and they were all dressed in festive attire.
One of them carried a bamboo pole, walked directly to the gate, placed the pole there, and a stool appeared out of thin air. He then sat down in the center.
This is an attempt to extort money from you.
Bai Ye understood the situation, glanced at the blurry groom not far away, and quickly walked over.
"Big brother..."
As soon as I shouted, a donkey-like face turned around on the other side.
Now even donkeys are attending weddings?
Having seen the example set by the previous groom, Bai Ye remained calm despite facing the donkey-faced man, and even moved closer, "Brother, I was also assigned to block the door, can I stand next to you?"
"Blocking the door? That's fine, give it your all later."
"Of course, I'll follow your orders, brother." Bai Ye nodded.
After a while, people started arriving at the main gate.
Bai Ye was squeezed among the crowd, occasionally glancing back to catch glimpses of strange faces: chickens, ducks, geese, horses, cows, donkeys, and even frogs, grasshoppers, and crickets.
Looking down again, those once normal human hands had now turned into hooves, claws, and arthropods...
His normal hands, however, became the oddity.
