When Shen Tingwan opened his eyes again, he was lying on the hospital bed.
She only felt a burst of pain at the back of her neck, and when she tried to speak, she found her voice was terribly hoarse.
Shen Tingwan looked out the window with some difficulty and found that it was pitch black outside.
The night light beside her lit up, and she suddenly met Jiang Yan's worried black eyes.
Shen Tingwan spoke softly, his voice barely audible, "Jiang Yan, I..."
Jiang Yan didn't say anything, his eyes bloodshot, and held her hand.
His voice was very hoarse, and it seemed that he had been guarding her by the bed without closing his eyes.
"How do you feel? Does it still hurt?"
Shen Tingwan wanted to shake his head and tell him not to worry, but his throat was completely shut.
Jiang Yan poured a glass of water, gently took a cotton ball and dipped it in some water to moisten Shen Tingwan's lips, and then fed her the water in small sips.
Shen Tingwan felt his throat better after he finished drinking, "What's wrong with me?"
Jiang Yan held her hand tightly. "You were knocked unconscious in the alley in front of the newspaper office. Do you remember?"
There was confusion in Shen Tingwan's eyes.
It was strange that she had no recollection of that memory at all.
Jiang Yan met the puzzled gaze and immediately understood.
"You were unconscious?"
Shen Tingwan said softly, “I just felt that I was knocked unconscious, and I don’t remember the rest.”
Logically speaking, that kind of force should not have caused any harm to her, but for some reason, her memory of this was so vague.
Shen Tingwan narrowed his eyes and keenly realized that this matter was unusual.
Jiang Yan also understood something and said, "I've asked someone to investigate this matter."
Shen Tingwan nodded. Her neck still hurt a little, but she forced herself to ask, "Where are Yuzhi and the others?"
Jiang Yan said, "I asked Qian Shu to look after him for us for one night. She and Sister Lu Yue wanted to come over, but I stopped them."
Shen Tingwan nodded and patted Jiang Yan's hand, "Go to sleep, I'm fine."
She saw that it was already early morning, and judging from Jiang Yan's appearance, he must have been guarding her here all night without closing his eyes.
Jiang Yan held her hand and said, "Go to sleep. I'll just watch over you."
Shen Tingwan sighed secretly when he saw his persistence.
Jiang Yan understood what she meant, but he was determined to stay with her no matter what.
Shen Tingwan had no energy left, and she fell into a deep sleep again.
This sleep lasted until dawn.
Jiang Yan, who was standing in front of the bed, had disappeared.
Shen Tingwan's bed was next to the window, and there were two other patients outside.
The door of the ward opened and closed, and Jiang Yan walked in with a basin in his hand, and a thermos and a light breakfast in his other hand.
Shen Tingwan felt much better after a night's rest, and was able to ask more questions that he didn't have time to answer last night.
She looked at the dark circles under Jiang Yan's eyes and the stubble he hadn't shaved off in time with some heartache, and said softly, "I asked you to sleep last night, but you refused."
Jiang Yan patiently placed breakfast on the table in front of her and said calmly, "Don't worry about me. I used to be on missions all night in the army, so I'm used to it."
"What else do you want to eat? I'll buy it for you."
Shen Tingwan held the bowl of hot porridge and drank two mouthfuls. "I don't have much appetite, this is all."
Jiang Yan casually took a bite of the fried dough stick. "The police have already identified the suspect, a small-time thug. He has been taken to the police station for questioning."
Shen Tingwan was stunned while drinking porridge, then nodded, "Jiang Yan, I always feel that this matter is very strange."
Such a dangerous person suddenly appeared, and based on her reaction ability, she should not have been unaware of it.
Shen Tingwan has practiced Taekwondo and is more alert than the average person.
Jiang Yan pursed his lips, a hint of murderous intent flashing between his eyebrows, "When I arrived, you had already been sent to the hospital. Your bag had been searched, and all the money inside had been taken away, and..."
Shen Tingwan's brows twitched fiercely, and there was always an ominous premonition in his heart.
Jiang Yan continued, "And your manuscript was torn into pieces and burned."
Shen Tingwan chuckled.
She seemed to know who did it.
She suddenly said, "Jiang Yan, help me find out what the relationship is between this little scoundrel and the Lin family."
Jiang Yan immediately understood what she meant, "You mean, he was sent by the Lin family?"
Shen Tingwan nodded, "It's just a guess. Lin Shuyao and I were competing for this project at the beginning, but the editor-in-chief chose me in the end."
Jiang Yan understood immediately.
His face was very gloomy, and then he slowly said, "I understand. I will focus on investigating it."
There was a gentle knock on the ward door, and then two people walked in.
When Shen Tingwan saw the person coming, he signaled Jiang Yan to stand up.
"Jiang Yan, this is the editor-in-chief of Hejia Newspaper."
The editor nodded at Jiang Yan, then looked at Shen Tingwan with concern, "Comrade Shen, are you feeling well? I heard Qian Shu mention this today, so I rushed over to see you."
After all, the incident happened near the newspaper office, and it would be inappropriate for him not to come and take a look.
Jiang Yan took the fruit from the editor-in-chief and thanked him.
Shen Tingwan smiled and said, "Editor-in-chief, my neck is not convenient, so I won't get up. There are no other injuries. I think I can be discharged after a few days of observation."
The editor nodded, and the two spoke a few more words.
Jiang Yan handed the editor-in-chief some water, and then, seeing that Shen Tingwan had been talking for so long, he gave her a few more sips of water.
The editor-in-chief smiled and said, “Comrade Shen, your husband is so good to you.”
Shen Tingwan suddenly heard the editor say this, pursed her lips shyly, and agreed with a smile, "Indeed."
After thinking about it, Shen Tingwan decided to tell the editor-in-chief about the manuscript.
When the editor heard that the manuscript was burned by gangsters, his face was full of anger.
"This man must be brought to justice. I never thought there would be such a brazen person in broad daylight."
Then, he looked at Shen Tingwan again and said, "It's okay. It's okay to hand in the manuscript later. There's still some time left."
Shen Tingwan nodded.
But she hesitated for a moment and then spoke slowly.
"Editor-in-chief, I have another plan."
