Chapter 35 All the ease and confidence they displayed turned into fear and trepidation when they encountered him.

On the other side of the city, after receiving a phone call, Sun's father ordered the little beast to be brought to him. Without saying a word, he went up and kicked him.

Sun Yao was screaming in pain from both new and old injuries.

Mrs. Sun felt sorry for her son and quickly stepped forward to stop her husband, saying, "Why are you hitting our son for no reason!"

Mr. Sun's face was stern. "Still protecting him! Do you even know who he's messed with outside???"

Madam Sun's expression changed instantly. She turned to look at her son and asked, "What have you done?"

Sun Yao was initially surprised, then panic flashed across his face as he clutched his wound and stammered, "No...nobody!"

Sun's father didn't waste any more words, "Get out of here in Suzhou tomorrow, and don't come back without my permission!"

Sun Yao: "I'm not going!"

"It's not up to you!"

...

The problem was resolved quietly, leaving Lin Zaoyi feeling little impact; she had been bewildered by Tan Zhaojing's talk of "three days" these past few days.

I couldn't come up with this even in three years, let alone three.

Xi Xi did offer her opinion, saying that Tan Zhaojing should want her to express her opinion.

manner?

She was practically kneeling down to apologize.

After much thought, I realized there shouldn't be any material offerings, but I also felt that Tan Zhaojing wasn't so superficial.

Never mind, I'll just send it over first.

What to give her was another dilemma.

After browsing around the mall, I finally bought a pair of cufflinks.

She naturally needed to make an appointment to see him, but when asked at the front desk, she couldn't give a valid reason.

I simply sent him a message: "Brother Zhaojing, I'm in your company lobby, are you free right now?"

[Waiting]

A short while later, his assistant came over. "Ms. Lin."

She followed me into the elevator. "Excuse me, do you have my car keys?"

The other party shook their head, "Given to President Tan."

A dedicated elevator goes directly to the 32nd floor.

On a weekday, and since the president's office secretary's workspace is open-plan, she received numerous admiring glances along the way, but quickly withdrew them and went about her work.

Some secretaries couldn't resist the gossip, mainly because it was the first time they had seen Assistant Shao personally greet them.

After the man went inside, they grabbed Assistant Shao and asked, "Who is that...?"

Assistant Shao didn't answer but instead asked, "Have you memorized his appearance clearly?"

"So beautiful, of course."

"Next time you come, don't ask if you have an appointment, just let people in."

The secretary immediately took it very seriously, "That impressive?"

The office is separated by a wall.

Lin Zaoyi hesitated, all her ease and confidence vanished when she encountered him.

Five meters away, at the desk, the man sat calmly, flipping through the documents, while she felt uneasy, as if she were walking a tightrope in mid-air without any protection.

It didn't feel like giving a gift, but rather like undergoing a tribulation.

She couldn't understand even a fraction of Tan Zhaojing's thoughts.

I approached step by step, my heart pounding.

Stop one meter away.

"Brother Zhaojing".

The man was a man of few words; he simply said, "Speak."

She gently placed the bag on the table, saying, "I bought you a small gift."

The rustling of papers stopped, and the man who had been reading the documents raised his head slightly. He didn't say anything, just stared at her. She was captivated by his gaze, and in just a short while, she couldn't resist it.

His fingers were tightly curled. "I didn't mean anything by it... I just wanted to apologize to you."

Tan Zhaojing finally mustered the courage to speak, "And then?"

She didn't know either.

Taking a deep breath, "There's nothing more to say. Besides apologizing, I also want to say thank you. Without your face, how could Mr. Solo have agreed to take photos? And Sun Yao, if you hadn't shown up in time a few days ago, I don't know what he was thinking."

Anyone who hears it will find it appropriate, and even if it's just for show, they'll still say a few words.

But he didn't react, staring at her silently for several seconds before speaking slowly, "Is this all you've thought of in these three days? Or do you think a few nice words will make this all over?"

Lin Zaoyi's words caught in her throat. She wanted to say something, but found that language was so pale and powerless at this moment.

After a moment, she moved her lips and said, "Then I'll take my leave."

"Go sit on the sofa and think about it slowly."

The sounds overlapped, and they opened their mouths almost simultaneously.

Lin Zaoyi shook her head, "I'll think about it when I get back."

"Right here." The tone left no room for argument.

"…oh."

His voice rang out from behind, "What would you like to drink?"

She replied, "Anything is fine, milk, please."

"You don't drink milk?"

"ah?"

I realized that I must have noticed her habit when I was having breakfast at Xiyuan.

For some reason, I wanted to go against the grain. "Now I do."

Tan Zhaojing asked again, this time giving a choice: "Juice or coffee?"

Lin Zaoyi, though a little temperamental, gave the same answer: "Milk."

Tan Zhaojing: "..."

A short while later, the secretary came in carrying a tray with milk, juice, and coffee.

The owner gestured towards the sofas, and she understood, placing them one by one in front of the guests, saying, "Please enjoy."

"Thanks."

Lin Zaoyi wasn't just suspicious; she was certain this person was doing it on purpose. She insisted on choosing milk, but after only two sips, she was done for.

I really don't like this smell; it always tastes fishy.

There were financial books on the coffee table. She picked one up casually and looked at it absentmindedly.

A short while later, there was another knock on the office door, and the secretary came in with colleagues from the maintenance department, dragging away the office chairs.

Lin Zaoyi was distracted; was the chair broken?

Then Tan Zhaojing sat down opposite him with his laptop in his arms.

Aren't there other chairs?

Why sit here? It's putting pressure on her.

Five minutes later, the secretary knocked and came in. Just as she was about to tell the boss that the chair was fine, President Tan spoke up first: "Just fix it before you leave work."

What's there to not understand?

But I don't quite understand, shouldn't wanting to get close require a relaxed state?

The boss sat opposite the girl, and his expression was as cold and stern as when he was working.

Perhaps the chair is really broken; I'll check it carefully later.

Half an hour later, the logistics staff gave a very definite reply: the chair was not broken.

In the office.

Lin Zaoyi felt like she was being pricked by needles, her mind racing but she couldn't figure out what Tan Zhaojing was up to. As the sun was setting, she knew she had to leave.

Staying any longer would only make me more anxious and yield no results.

Just as she was about to speak, a phone call interrupted her.

Tan Zhaojing casually switched to speakerphone, and soon a soft, pleasant voice sounded in his ear, "I need to talk to you about something. I'm downstairs at your company, is that convenient?"

"Um."

Now there's no need to find a reason.

As soon as she hung up the phone, Lin Zaoyi stood up. "Brother Zhaojing, I won't disturb Sister Yuan Lai now that she's here."

The man raised his eyes. "What does her coming or not have to do with whether you leave or not?"

Of course.

She said, showing great consideration for him, "Who wants to see another girl in their boyfriend's office?"

He quickly added, "Although we are both innocent."

After saying that, he felt that his words were superfluous.

Tan Zhaojing frowned, "When did Yuan Lai become my girlfriend?"

Lin Zaoyi belatedly realized that she had misspoke, and in her haste to leave, she spoke without thinking.

"I'm sorry, Brother Zhaojing, not now, but in the future—"

The second half of her sentence was cut off by the look in his eyes. Before, she only knew that he looked cold, but at this moment, she felt the chill on her skin and couldn't help but shiver.

"Feel sorry…"

Tan Zhaojing lowered his eyelashes, his chest heaving with restlessness, silently processing the storm this girl had brought him.

When it was almost time, he asked, "What did Yuan Lai say to you?"
