Chapter 39 So far, you're the only one who's slept with me.

Chapter 39 So far, you're the only one who's slept with me.

Hearing the faint chirping of crickets, barely audible, Tan Zhaojing straightened up and adjusted his collar. "Are they cursing me?"

"No." Lin Zaoyi denied it too quickly, blinking and her heart pounding as she tried to cover it up. "Brother Zhaojing, you don't blame me for biting you, how could I possibly scold you? I'm too grateful to even think about it."

That's a tall hat he's wearing.

Tan Zhaojing concealed the smile in his eyes, "Alright, I don't blame you, but you can't just dismiss the matter of you wrongly accusing me like this."

Lin Zaoyi looked puzzled. "What did I mean by wronging you?"

Tan Zhaojing repeated her accusations from last night word for word.

After hearing this, Lin Zaoyi was filled with disbelief. "Did I really say that?"

The other party nodded.

"......"

She tried to defend herself, saying, "You should know that what you say when you're drunk is nonsense."

"I don't know. I only know that people speak the truth when they're drunk. I need to clarify that so far, you're the only one I've slept with."

"I didn't get to sleep," she had to emphasize.

"But the innocence is gone."

As soon as those words were spoken, the room fell silent.

After a few moments of silence, Tan Zhaojing broke the silence, "Why aren't you saying anything?"

"You've already said it, what else can I say?"

Tan Zhaojing half-lifted his eyelids and said, "Judging from your tone, you seem to have a lot of opinions about me."

Lin Zaoyi said something insincere, "No."

"Is it that they don't have it, or that they don't dare to?" Tan Zhaojing asked incisively.

There was no response to her words. The girl lowered her head, her long, curled eyelashes trembling slightly. Her fingers were interlaced on her lap, and she looked helpless and aggrieved.

He lowered his voice involuntarily, "Didn't I tell you not to be afraid of me?"

As he spoke, he gently lifted a strand of hair that was falling against her cheek, his fingertips soft, "Say what you want to say."

Perhaps it was this gentleness that made Lin Zaoyi lower her guard a little. She muttered an accusation, "I don't want to be afraid, but you're being unreasonable."

Tan Zhaojing looked enlightened. "What's unreasonable about that?"

Lin Zaoyi was still worried, "Would they silence me if I told them?"

"Won't."

Tan Zhaojing smiled faintly, "You slept with me and I didn't even kill you."

Lin Zaoyi was about to explode. Why did he keep bringing this up? She glanced at him unhappily.

He was flicked on the head. "Go ahead and speak, I'm listening."

The pressure was just right, not too light or too heavy, but it hurt a little. She raised her hand and touched the spot he had touched. "Too much."

"Take your time and tell me."

With such a good temper, Lin Zaoyi became bolder. "You tricked me. I thought I was pretending well, but in your eyes I'm just a baboon jumping around."

Tan Zhaojing silently curled his lips, it was the first time he had ever heard someone describe him as a baboon.

Keep listening.

"He puts on one face in front of Uncle Tan, but doesn't treat me like a sister behind his back, that's the second point."

She counted on her fingers, "Third...give me three days, how am I supposed to know what you want..."

As he said this, his eyes filled with resentment.

Tan Zhaojing, however, remained calm and asked, "Anything else?"

"That's all for now."

"I'll answer these three questions first, and you can ask again if you remember anything else."

Lin Zaoyi was somewhat flattered; how did she suddenly become so easy to talk to?

His gentle voice whispered in my ear: "First of all, I never intended to play you. On my first day back in the country, I tested you by asking if I had seen you somewhere before. If you wanted to pretend, I could only play along."

Her chin was suddenly lifted, and the man stared intently at her. "As for why I don't treat you like a sister, don't you know the reason?"

Her brain felt sluggish, her reactions slowed. "What's wrong?" she murmured in confusion.

"How can you claim you've slept with everyone?"

"...It hasn't come to that point yet!"

"It makes no difference to me."

Lin Zaoyi wasn't going to argue about winning or losing, and waved his hand away, "What about third place?"

Tan Zhaojing fell silent.

After waiting for a short while without him speaking, she subconsciously looked at him. He was also looking at her, his expression still calm, but upon closer inspection, his deep eyes seemed to reveal a hint of something, a deep and puzzling look that puzzled her.

"What’s wrong with you?"

The man's voice was deep and clear. "I'm thinking about how to answer the third question."

After a short while, he slightly raised the corners of his lips and said, "I won't rush you in the short term. Take your time to think about it."

She paused, but quickly tensed up again. "What are you thinking about...?"

"Naturally, it's our relationship."

Tan Zhaojing's dark, deep eyes swept over her. "Lin Zaoyi, I've said it before, you and I can't be siblings."

Lin Zaoyi's pupils dilated, and a storm immediately raged in her mind, making yesterday's suspicions clear at this moment.

Panic spread, completely obscuring that inexplicable unease.

no…

cannot…

"Brother Zhaojing—"

"Let's go eat." Tan Zhaojing seemed to know what she was going to say and cut her off, "There are some things I don't want to repeat."

As soon as she sat down in the restaurant, Lin Zaoyi was still unable to calm down. This man seemed to be slow and deliberate, but in fact he was planning everything step by step.

Trying to appear nonchalant, she said, "Brother Zhaojing, you go ahead and get busy."

She was telling him to leave, but he calmly sat down on the sofa and started flipping through a magazine. "No rush."

"Is there anything else?"

"I'll take you home."

Meng Jinxi: ?

It sounds like a husband trying to appease his wife who is sulking outside and refusing to come home.

The young wife shook her head, "I'm not going back with you."

The husband asked, "How long are you going to hide?"

“Yeah, right,” she couldn’t help but interject, “How long are you going to keep hiding?”

He then contradicted himself, saying, "Is it necessary to hide? Brother Zhaojing knows you're with me, and besides, didn't you two already talk things out?"

Zao Yi gave her a look that told her to shut up.

She consciously made a zipping motion with her mouth.

Lin Zaoyi turned around and glanced at the man with mixed feelings. "I'll go back to Xiyuan by myself. Could you please call a delivery service for my car keys?"

He stared at her for a few seconds, then finally nodded.

The person left, but after the pent-up emotions were released, all that remained was a sense of bewilderment.

"Can we talk now?" Xi Xi poured her a cup of soy milk.

"I don't know how to say it..."

Meng Jinxi rested her chin on her hand, tapping her cheek absently with her index finger, squinting as she recalled the scene from last night, "Is he addicted to sleeping?"

Lin Zaoyi's ears burned, "Xi Xi!"

"What are you doing? Keep your voice down." The girl pretended to clutch her chest, "Didn't I tell you I have a heart condition?"

He gestured with his chin towards her, "Then tell me yourself what Brother Zhaojing means?"

Zao Yi indicated that she didn't want to pay attention to it.

There was no response, and Meng Jinxi didn't urge her. She quietly ate her breakfast, drinking half a cup of soy milk. Zao Yi finally spoke up, "He doesn't treat me like a sister. He wants me to think carefully about the relationship between us."

Upon hearing this, she excitedly retorted, "Then I was right! What else could it be but an addiction to sleeping?"

Lin Zaoyi was speechless. "It was just once, how could it be addictive?"

“How is it impossible?” Meng Jinxi disagreed with her statement at all. “Your words have no scientific basis whatsoever.”

He blinked. "What?"

Lin Zaoyi: "...What's going on?"

Xi Xi suddenly smiled wickedly.

"!!! Can't you be normal for once?"

Meng Jinxi regained her composure and suppressed her smile. "In my opinion, Zhaojing has developed feelings for you after sleeping together."

Lin Zaoyi thought it was outrageous.

Meng Jinxi wanted to know, "What are your plans?"

Lin Zaoyi was unsure, a complex mix of emotions welling up in her chest. "Stay away."

Meng Jinxi: Is it too far away?

That's probably difficult.

With Zhaojing's personality, if he really wanted to do something, Zaoyi would never be able to escape.
