Chapter 18 [VIP]

Chapter 18 [VIP]

Chapter Summary: "I just want to know, what's so great about this car?"

Ni Zhenzhen also found it strange. From childhood to adulthood, the things that she could remember vividly were always happy things, while she could always forget the unpleasant things quickly.

Ni Zhenzhen knew that her colleagues were intentionally pushing difficult clients and complicated business onto her, but she didn't care at all.

She enjoys challenges.

She feels a great sense of accomplishment whenever she sees people who couldn't handle leave satisfied, or when she gets things sorted out that others couldn't manage.

The story of the bald old man deeply moved Ni Zhenzhen. They always tend to think from their own perspective and never consider that the words on the evaluation device are so small that the elderly cannot read them at all.

After get off work that day, Ni Zhenzhen modified the rating system at the branch.

She wrote two large "Satisfied" and "Dissatisfied" signs and pasted them in front of the feedback button. Thinking that some elderly people were illiterate, she also drew smiley faces and angry faces next to the signs.

Ni Zhenzhen looked at the evaluation device she had modified and smiled with satisfaction.

Honestly, why didn't I think of that before?

After get off work, Ni Zhenzhen didn't go home. She took a stack of financial management leaflets and went to the cultural square next to the bank to wait for the square dancing to stop, then immediately went up and handed them out.

Surprisingly, several people actually showed interest in the products Ni Zhenzhen had mentioned, asking her all sorts of questions. Ni Zhenzhen answered them all without hesitation, and even left her contact information before they left.

Ni Zhenzhen thought with delight, "Maybe this is the right path I've taken."

When Ni Zhenzhen got home, she found the room light was on; Xu Tianzhou had already returned.

He asked Ni Zhenzhen if she wanted to eat, "I cooked porridge."

"Great, I'm starving!"

Ni Zhenzhen lied. She was indeed starving to death, but not now, but while she was square dancing.

She was starving, so she bought a scallion pancake from a nearby stall. But since Xu Tianzhou had already prepared it, she couldn't very well refuse to eat it.

Ni Zhenzhen wolfed down her food, a happy smile spreading across her face. "It was so delicious."

Xu Tianzhou couldn't help but frown. He didn't understand what was so delicious about plain porridge.

After finishing her meal, Ni Zhenzhen immediately threw herself into her work.

She turned on her computer, took out her dictionary, and everything was ready when Ni Zhenzhen suddenly realized that her book was gone!

The room was so small that there was no way to hide anything. She searched everywhere she could think of, but she couldn't find the book.

Ni Zhenzhen was so frightened that she broke out in a cold sweat. The book wasn't hers; it was internal information that she couldn't buy even if she wanted to. How could she explain losing it?

Xu Tianzhou finally noticed something was wrong with her. He looked up and asked in a calm tone, "What are you looking for?"

Have you seen my book?

What book?

“It’s that book about financial leasing.” Ni Zhenzhen continued flipping through the pages without stopping.

Xu Tianzhou's expression was indifferent, his tone completely flat, "In English?"

How did you know?

Xu Tianzhou raised his hand, revealing the cover. "Is this the one?"

Ni Zhenzhen took a look and saw the blue cover with a few neatly arranged English words—it was the book she had been searching for.

Ni Zhenzhen laughed in anger, "You took it and looked at it without saying a word, making me search for it for ages."

Xu Tianzhou felt wronged, "You didn't even say what you were looking for."

Ni Zhenzhen was too lazy to argue with him. She picked up the book, flipped through it, and exclaimed, "Oh no!" "Where did my bookmark go?"

“You…” Before Ni Zhenzhen could speak, Xu Tianzhou leaned back and said expressionlessly, “Page 63.”

He actually remembered it!

Then I won't scold him.

Ni Zhenzhen stopped talking to him and turned to battling those English words.

Ni Zhenzhen has a background in media studies and can read through monographs on journalism and communication without any problems, but she is really not good at finance.

Moreover, reading and translating are two different things. Just like many people with overseas study backgrounds like to mix Chinese and English when they speak, they are not trying to show off, but simply because they don't know the Chinese equivalent of that word.

In her pursuit of accuracy, Ni Zhenzhen would consult a financial dictionary even for words she knew, which directly slowed down her progress. Although the director hadn't specified when it was due, she couldn't afford to delay any longer.

Seemingly sensing that Xu Tianzhou was unhappy because she was ignoring him, Ni Zhenzhen turned around after turning a page of her book, then smiled ingratiatingly and said, "I love you."

Xu Tianzhou immediately stopped being angry.

After a while, Xu Tianzhou came over while he was drinking water.

"Where did the book come from?"

Ni Zhenzhen said, "The director attended some kind of training course. This is the course material, but he can't understand it, so he asked me to translate it for him."

"Translation? So thick?" Xu Tianzhou put down his water glass, leaned against the dining table, and said with a hint of sarcasm, "No need to ask, there's definitely no money for it."

He guessed correctly, but Ni Zhenzhen wasn't embarrassed at all. She still smiled and said nonchalantly, "What's money to me?" Ni Zhenzhen said, "This is such valuable learning material. Others want to see it but don't."

Xu Tianzhou was speechless. How could there be such a person, being sold out and still counting the money for the other party? He couldn't say for a moment whether the branch manager or Ni Zhenzhen was more bizarre.

Ni Zhenzhen added, "I've become a bit rusty with English since I haven't used it for a long time, so this is a good opportunity to pick it up again."

Xu Tianzhou thought to himself, "She's in such a poor, remote place, why would she need to learn English? It would be more practical for her to learn a few phrases of the local dialect."

Just as he was about to leave, Ni Zhenzhen suddenly called out to him, sounding somewhat anxious, "Wait a minute, can you help me see what this sentence means?"

"I won't look," Xu Tianzhou refused. "I think it costs money."

Xu Tianzhou wasn't unfamiliar with such work. When he was studying away from home, he often took on translation jobs to earn some living expenses, but those were all paid jobs, at least 150 yuan per thousand words. He would never do what she did.

Ni Zhenzhen noticed that something was wrong with him. She immediately put down her book, stood up, and hugged Xu Tianzhou's arm, asking softly, "What's wrong? Are you angry?"

Xu Tianzhou didn't know what he was angry about. Maybe he was angry that the branch manager always picked on the weak, or maybe he was angry that Ni Zhenzhen always accepted things passively.

Xu Tianzhou was still angry when he suddenly felt his face flush. Before him was Ni Zhenzhen's beautiful, radiant smile. "Is this alright?"

She does this every time, and he still falls for it.

Actually, what Ni Zhenzhen said wasn't entirely unreasonable. Didn't he pick up that book and read it with great interest?

Xu Tianzhou looked up, seemingly reluctant, and said, "Just one sentence."

“This sentence,” Ni Zhenzhen pointed to.

"Are you sure it's this sentence?" Xu Tianzhou raised an eyebrow. He leaned down and got very close to Ni Zhenzhen. He deliberately didn't look at the book, but stared at Ni Zhenzhen's fair and jade-like face. He said half-jokingly, "The others will cost extra."

Ni Zhenzhen pounced on him and kissed him on the cheek again, saying, "Two sentences, okay?"

Xu Tianzhou smiled contentedly.

He looked at it carefully, and then discussed it with Ni Zhenzhen for a while. In a daze, it felt as if he had returned to the days when he was studying at an international school.

At international schools, group activities are frequent, and Xu Tianzhou always feels incredibly awkward when no one wants to partner with him. It's not that they look down on his background; it's just that his English and general knowledge are really lacking.

Thankfully, there's Ni Zhenzhen.

Perhaps out of gratitude for her guidance in completing the group activity, the agreed-upon two sentences became three, then four, and in the end, it was almost a case of Xu Tianzhou reading one sentence and Ni Zhenzhen writing one.

The two worked together seamlessly and completed a chapter in no time.

It was almost midnight, so Ni Zhenzhen decided to go to sleep. She closed her book, turned off her computer, and while stretching, said to Xu Tianzhou, "Thank you so much!"

Xu Tianzhou said lazily, "Thanks and that's it? I said more than just two sentences earlier."

Ni Zhenzhen knew perfectly well what he meant, but pretended not to understand. "So?"

"So?" Xu Tianzhou asked rhetorically, his narrowed eyes revealing a dangerous aura.

Ni Zhenzhen was about to lose her temper, but Xu Tianzhou didn't give her the chance.

Just as she was about to smile, Xu Tianzhou stepped forward, put one arm around her waist, and cupped the back of her head with the other, then kissed her without saying a word.

This kiss, which was supposed to be a punishment, was actually extremely gentle.

Not long after, Ni Zhenzhen became unsteady on her feet. She wrapped her arms around Xu Tianzhou's neck and pleaded, "Is that enough? We have a whole book."

Xu Tianzhou kissed her more passionately and fiercely, saying in a slightly hoarse voice, "Not enough..."

How could that be? This is just the beginning.

The next morning, Xu Tianzhou carried his computer and books up to the 58th floor.

Su Wenjin immediately noticed the slightly worn computer in Xu Tianzhou's hand. The A-side was covered with stickers, featuring pink cartoon characters that contrasted sharply with Xu Tianzhou's serious and aloof demeanor.

She didn't know where her confidence came from, but Su Wenjin was certain in her heart that it was Ni Zhenzhen's computer.

Su Wenjin greeted Xu Tianzhou. He had originally intended to say, "Did you come in a new car?" but immediately realized it was inappropriate, as the car was hardly "new." He then changed his question to, "Did you come by car?"

"Hmm." Xu Tianzhou put down his things, seemingly lost in thought. "From now on, we should postpone meetings a little longer, until nine o'clock."

"Huh?" Su Wenjin was a little surprised.

Xu Tianzhou didn't say why it was postponed, so there's only one possibility: it's related to Ni Zhenzhen.

Su Wenjin had always thought that Xu Tianzhou set the meeting time so early to show off his diligence, but it turned out that it wasn't what he thought.

Indeed, it's always safe to connect anything, whether you can think of a reason or not, to Ni Zhenzhen.

So that matter...

Su Wenjin refused to believe it.

He complained to Xu Tianzhou in a joking tone, "You have no idea how difficult it was to find that car. It's a 20-year-old car, and you needed it so urgently. I contacted used car dealers all over the city, but they were either heavily repaired or the color was wrong. I finally found three that were acceptable, and then I picked the one in the best condition. I also bought the other two as salvage parts, so that there would be parts to replace them if they broke. Because I needed it urgently, I didn't even negotiate the price. Even the real estate agent thought it was strange, wondering why I didn't just buy a new one with that kind of money."

Su Wenjin deliberately exaggerated a bit, which indeed earned Xu Tianzhou's gratitude. He even smiled slightly when he spoke, saying, "Thank you for your hard work."

“It’s only right that you work hard, since you’re my boss. But…” He smiled slightly, leaned forward, and asked casually, “I just want to know, what’s so great about this car? If it’s good, I’ll buy one too.”

The brief silence made the heartbeat around him grow louder, and Su Wenjin regretted asking so many questions.

But if he doesn't ask, he'll be unwilling to accept it.

After a long silence, Su Wenjin heard Xu Tianzhou say in a calm tone, "You called me here just to say this?"

It didn't sound like a rebuke, but it was definitely not a compliment either.

For a moment, Su Wenjin felt a mix of emotions, not only because of Xu Tianzhou's attitude, but also because her suspicions had been confirmed.

Su Wenjin didn't have time to express any further feelings, as Xu Tianzhou was still watching him.

He quickly chuckled and said, "Of course not."
