Chapter 19 [VIP]
Chapter summary: "You can stay here and see if Mr. Xu needs anything."
Su Wenjin just went to another city to attend the groundbreaking ceremony of the rocket manufacturing base. Today, he is mainly here to report on the situation.
This was the first project that Xu Tianzhou had led since joining Cinda, so he attached great importance to it. He listened attentively and nodded from time to time.
About an hour later, the secretary came in to remind Su Wenjin that there was another meeting later, "The car is ready, but there is a bit of traffic outside."
Su Wenjin did not leave immediately, but looked at Xu Tianzhou.
Xu Tianzhou opened the book beside him and said, "You go first."
Su Wenjin then stood up and said, "Then I'll be going now."
As soon as Su Wenjin came out of the conference room, the first thing she asked her secretary was, "Did you notice the book Mr. Xu was holding?"
The secretary nodded. She had noticed it when she brought Xu Tianzhou coffee. "I didn't see the whole thing, I only saw 'Financial Leasing,' which should be about financial leasing."
Su Wenjin hummed in agreement, and said as they walked, "It's 'Financial Leasing as a Funding Instrument.' Why do you think he would read this book?"
"The company has been using its own funds to the most extent as it has developed. This rocket project requires a lot of financial support. Perhaps Mr. Xu wants to use financial leasing to raise funds and alleviate the financial pressure."
“That’s right.” Su Wenjin thought so too, and then asked, “What preparations do you think we should make?”
This was something the secretary hadn't considered. After a moment's thought, she offered a few points, which, though hastily put together and not entirely complete, were well-organized.
After the secretary finished speaking, she looked at Su Wenjin somewhat nervously, as if waiting for his evaluation.
However, Su Wenjin only smiled, leaving everyone puzzled. The secretary became even more uneasy, wondering if she had said something wrong.
“Very good.” Su Wenjin finally said two words.
Before the secretary could even catch her breath, Su Wenjin gave several more instructions, such as finding this person to come over, having dinner with that person, and needing information from certain years.
Time is precious, and Su Wenjin will not repeat herself. She must write it down quickly; if she doesn't remember it or makes a mistake, it will be her dereliction of duty.
Fortunately, the secretary had already gotten used to this work rhythm.
After finishing her business, Su Wenjin said, "You can stay here and see if Mr. Xu needs anything."
Su Wenjin opened the door, and the executives who had been waiting for a long time came up to him and said something. On the other side, the people attending the meeting were ready, and the elevator was waiting for him at the end of the corridor.
Amidst the orderly flurry of activity, the secretary had to stop, nod blankly, and say something no one would care about: "I understand."
The secretary felt somewhat regretful.
The conference that Su Wenjin is about to attend is not large in scale, but it is of a very high standard, and he will be able to meet many well-known entrepreneurs.
Unfortunately, all of this has nothing to do with her anymore.
The secretary thought about it carefully and realized that it had always been like this. Whether it was a business trip or a meeting, Su Wenjin rarely took her with him when he went out. He usually took another male assistant instead.
The secretary couldn't understand the reason, only feeling that she was probably incompetent and not capable enough to handle such a situation.
Following Su Wenjin's instructions, she returned to the conference room and asked Xu Tianzhou if he needed anything.
However, Xu Tianzhou's only "need" was "not to be disturbed".
He sat alone in the conference room, translating a chapter with complete focus.
When he got home, Xu Tianzhou put his computer on the dining table.
There was already a computer on the dining table, and two computers were placed side by side with the same pink sticker on their A side, which was obviously Ni Zhenzhen's doing.
Su Wenjin was wrong; the computer Xu Tianzhou brought to the conference room was either Ni Zhenzhen's or his own.
International schools require computers for classes, and Xu Tianzhou's parents had no choice but to borrow money to buy one for him.
Before Xu Tianzhou could even feel happy after receiving the computer, his parents' words of advice weighed on him: "Don't break it!"
A few days later, the computer's top cover was accidentally scratched by a classmate.
The classmate looked at it, touched it, and casually said, "It's fine." He held up his tablet, "Look at mine, I've swiped through it countless times. Isn't this great? I can ask my dad for a new one, hahaha..."
The brand-new computer looked different, but Xu Tianzhou didn't feel heartbroken; he was just scared.
If your parents see this, they'll definitely scold you, "How can you be so careless with your things!"
If he says that his classmate scratched him, his parents will say, "Why don't you take better care of your things!"
Ni Zhenzhen could tell he wasn't happy, so when he wasn't looking, she took out a sticker from the book and covered up the scratch.
When Xu Tianzhou returned, Ni Zhenzhen proudly asked, "How was it?"
Xu Tianzhou glanced at it and frowned. "Why is it pink?"
"Uh..." This was something Ni Zhenzhen hadn't expected; it did seem a bit inappropriate. She quickly peeled off the sticker, but Xu Tianzhou stopped her.
"Forget it." His brows furrowed even deeper, and his voice was cold. "Leaving the glue behind would look even worse."
After Xu Tianzhou finished speaking, he carefully smoothed out the area that Ni Zhenzhen had scratched with his fingertips.
This caress has continued to this day.
Over the years, Xu Tianzhou has never changed his computer, and he has kept the stickers. Whether he takes them to the lecture hall or to Xinda's conference room, he doesn't seem to think there's anything wrong with them.
Xu Tianzhou then placed his finger on the sticker and gently stroked it.
Ni Zhenzhen was on the phone with an auntie she'd met at square dancing, who was calling to ask her for financial advice. Later, the conversation somehow drifted to other topics, like bank salaries, which jobs were better, the difficulty of passing the civil service exam, and her children's marriages.
Ni Zhenzhen finally realized that her aunt probably just wanted to keep her company.
However, she wasn't too averse to it. On the contrary, she felt gratified to have gained her aunt's trust and did her best to give her aunt advice.
After Ni Zhenzhen finished her call and sat down next to him, Xu Tianzhou casually said, "I've finished translating the last chapter."
Since yesterday, he has imagined countless times how Ni Zhenzhen would beam with joy and surprise when she heard the news, and maybe she would even rush over and kiss him.
But no.
Ni Zhenzhen showed no sign of happiness. "The last chapter? I've already translated it."
"..."
Ni Zhenzhen also felt a little reluctant, but that was the reality.
At that time, she had no background knowledge whatsoever, and the pages full of technical jargon made her dizzy. She barely managed to finish translating the first chapter, and thinking of a change of pace, she translated the last chapter instead.
Xu Tianzhou sighed. He had been busy for so long, but it had all been for nothing.
Perhaps to comfort her, Ni Zhenzhen rushed over and kissed her, then exclaimed, "We have such great chemistry!"
"What kind of tacit understanding is this?" Xu Tianzhou was completely unimpressed.
"I don't care, this is what we call tacit understanding."
"Alright," Xu Tianzhou conceded.
If you really had to put it in perspective, it could be considered a kind of tacit understanding. Thinking of this, Xu Tianzhou's mood finally improved a little.
Through their joint efforts, the thick book "Financial Leasing" was finally translated.
Ni Zhenzhen went to a print shop to print the books, bound them, and only after she felt everything was in order did she take the two books to the director.
She pushed open the door and said enthusiastically, "Director, I've translated the documents you requested."
"Translation?" The director seemed to have forgotten about it. When Ni Zhenzhen took out the book, he slapped his forehead. "Look at my memory. I forgot to tell you that the training course later issued a Chinese version, so there's no need for translation."
"..."
Ni Zhenzhen couldn't help but feel disappointed that her carefully prepared items were not used, but fortunately, she gained something else.
Ni Zhenzhen smiled nonchalantly, "It's okay, I still learned a lot."
The director's use of the word "you" was deliberate and suggestive. Of course, he wouldn't reveal his true thoughts, but instead said in a grand and respectful tone, "Young people should always learn more. Work hard, you have a bright future."
"Thank you, Director."
Just as Ni Zhenzhen was about to leave, she remembered that she had come to return the book. She no longer needed the one she had translated, so she should return the original.
She took the book out and said, "This book... is returned to you..."
The director scoffed, "What would I do with this? Who would read this if there's Chinese?" He waved his hand generously and said, "Do you want it? If you do, it's yours."
“Okay.” Ni Zhenzhen was more than happy to agree. She quickly put the book away. “Then I’ll be going now.”
In just a few minutes, Ni Zhenzhen felt like she was on a rollercoaster, going up and down several times. She came out of the director's office, but after taking only a few steps, she quickly turned back.
Ni Zhenzhen pushed open the door. "Director, could I see the Chinese version?"
"..." The director hesitated for a moment, probably out of pity for her having done so much work for nothing, so he mercifully said, "Sure."
This time, Ni Zhenzhen didn't give the book away; instead, she brought back an extra one.
Although she was carrying an extra book, Ni Zhenzhen's steps were much lighter, while on the other side, Qian Lina saw everything she did.
Others might not understand, but she understood it perfectly.
A few days ago, the director approached her and immediately said, "Translate a book for me." His reasoning was quite convincing: "Aren't you an English major?"
"..."
Who told her to be someone she couldn't afford to offend? Qian Lina tried hard to suppress the urge to roll her eyes.
Since majoring in English, it seems like I owe everyone a debt. This relative asked me to tutor her child in English, and that classmate I hadn't contacted in a long time suddenly popped up asking me to translate a paper. They all just talk to me as if asking me is a favor, but they don't mention money at all. I don't know where they get the nerve.
Qian Lina didn't want to get involved, but luckily she reacted quickly and immediately pushed Ni Zhenzhen out.
“Director…” Qian Lina called out sweetly, “Although I majored in English and passed the TEM-8, I learned it all in China. If we’re talking about English proficiency, Ni Zhenzhen, who studied abroad, is better.”
Qian Lina believed that she had spoken very skillfully. She not only emphasized her professional level to the director, but also put herself in a very humble position. Most importantly, she achieved her goal of pushing the work to Ni Zhenzhen.
The director believed him as expected. "That's right, how could I forget? Ni Zhenzhen is an international student." He immediately ordered, "Then call her over."
"No problem," Qian Lina agreed with a smile and went to find Ni Zhenzhen immediately.
Ni Zhenzhen asked her if she knew what it was about. Qian Lina neither said she knew nor she didn't, but just told her to hurry up and go, "Don't keep the director waiting."
Qian Lina was certain that Ni Zhenzhen wouldn't refuse, and now that she saw it, she was right. She was once again impressed by her own wit.
However, it's still a bit strange. Why does Ni Zhenzhen have an extra book in her hand?
Qian Lina really wanted to ask, but she didn't know how to bring it up.
Just then, Rong Xiaodan skipped over and asked, "Zhenzhen, what did the director want to see you about?"
Ni Zhenzhen never intended to hide it from her, and told her everything in detail.
She also suggested to Rong Xiaodan, "Why don't you take a look? You never know when you might need it."
"I'll pass," Rong Xiaodan yawned. "I hate reading. I feel sleepy as soon as I start reading." She turned to Qian Lina and said, "Lina, do you want to take a look?"
Qian Lina was worrying about this when this unexpected offer came to her. How could she refuse? She immediately said, "Okay."
Ni Zhenzhen readily agreed, "I'll go back and make a copy, and I'll give it to you the day after tomorrow."
