Chapter 5

Chapter 5

Chapter summary: "He's not targeting you, don't take it to heart."

Xu Tianzhou rarely talks about his private affairs.

Since Xu Tianzhou didn't say anything, Su Wenjin, given her status, naturally couldn't ask too many questions.

If Xu Tianzhou hadn't mentioned it by chance, he wouldn't even have known that Xu Tianzhou was already married.

Strangely, every time Xu Tianzhou mentioned that person, he would use "she" instead of "wife" or "wife". It took a long time for Su Wenjin to piece together the person's name, Ni Zhenzhen, from his fragmented words.

But this is only the first step.

If it weren't for some tricks, Su Wenjin wouldn't even have been able to determine which character was in "Ni Zhenzhen's" name.

Needless to say, “Ni” originally meant neither “zhen” (the pearl) nor “zhen” (chastity), but rather “zhen” (innocence).

He was quite excited by this strange tacit understanding, because when he first heard Xu Tianzhou say "Zhenzhen," those two words were the first thing that flashed through his mind.

Su Wenjin had never met Ni Zhenzhen and did not know what she looked like.

However, there was one thing he was certain of: Xu Tianzhou disliked Ni Zhenzhen; to be precise, he loathed her.

This left Su Wenjin somewhat confused.

If he dislikes someone, he will stay far away from that person, preferably never to have anything to do with them again, and he will definitely not marry that person.

Su Wenjin couldn't figure out why Xu Tianzhou insisted on marrying Ni Zhenzhen. At first, he thought it was an arranged marriage or a business alliance, but Xu Tianzhou had made it clear that it wasn't.

Xu Tianzhou had no reason to lie to her, because Ni Zhenzhen still didn't know Xu Tianzhou's true identity. Moreover, he was with Xinda, and if it were truly a business marriage, he couldn't possibly not have noticed any clues.

Could it be...?

The thought of such a possibility sent chills down Su Wenjin's spine and made her feel cold all over.

Could this marriage itself be Xu Tianzhou's masterpiece born of hatred, his weapon for revenge against Ni Zhenzhen?

Su Wenjin couldn't understand how Ni Zhenzhen had offended Xu Tianzhou. Just now, the person who had been calmly inviting him to eat glutinous rice lotus root suddenly seemed like a completely different person.

Xu Tianzhou's lips were tightly pressed together, his gaze was gloomy, and his whole body was shrouded in coldness.

Su Wenjin could tell that this was the result of her extreme patience.

Without a doubt, the only person who could make Xu Tianzhou so angry is Ni Zhenzhen.

“Why did she go again…” Xu Tianzhou frowned, his eyes were deep, and his voice was as cold as ice in the dead of winter.

On his phone, a small red dot is stuck where it shouldn't be.

Xu Tianzhou, ignoring the half-eaten glutinous rice lotus root and the unopened lunchbox, suddenly stood up. As he was staring at his phone screen, he didn't notice anyone behind him.

Xu Tianzhou was extremely fast and tall, so the secretary had no way to avoid him and bumped right into him.

"Ah..." the secretary exclaimed, the tray in her hand tipped over, and two glasses of juice rolled over, spilling all over Xu Tianzhou.

"sorry……"

"Who let you in!"

Xu Tianzhou's voice wasn't loud, presumably he was trying his best to restrain himself, but even so, the secretary was still startled and couldn't stop trembling.

"Yes..." The secretary looked at Su Wenjin blankly, her eyes filled with tears and grievance.

Before and after joining the company, she, like everyone else, always thought Su Wenjin was the boss of Xinda Group. It wasn't until Su Wenjin spoke with her that she learned the company's boss was someone else entirely.

If Su Wenjin hadn't told her, she would never have imagined that there was another floor above Su Wenjin's office. Su Wenjin said that was a forbidden area in the company, and only a few people were qualified to go up there.

She will always remember that it was an ordinary evening when the afterglow of the setting sun shone on the ground, reflecting a golden light.

Su Wenjin sat in the halo of light, her voice gentle and sincere, "Normally it wouldn't work, but I'll make an exception for you and ask you to come and help."

The secretary also noticed that among the attendees, she was the lowest-ranking, and all of this was thanks to Su Wenjin's promotion.

Faced with Xu Tianzhou's questioning, the secretary only glanced at Su Wenjin before quickly looking away.

She lowered her eyes, bit her lip, and remained silent.

The secretary was glad she had made the right choice, because Xu Tianzhou did not delve into the matter further.

"Really..." Whether he already had an answer or was in a hurry, Xu Tianzhou, still angry, cursed under his breath, ignored her, and walked straight towards the elevator.

The secretary didn't snap out of her daze until the elevator doors closed.

She dared not utter a single complaint and knelt down to clean up the mess.

At the same time, Su Wenjin's voice came over. Surprisingly, he didn't blame her, but instead said something comforting, "He wasn't targeting you, don't take it to heart."

If it wasn't targeting her, then what was it for?

The secretary looked up and saw that Su Wenjin had already walked over. He was backlit, casting a shadow on her.

The secretary was eager to know the reason behind it, but dared not ask too many questions.

“This is…” Su Wenjin also squatted down and asked, pointing to the light pink liquid on the ground.

“It’s juice,” the secretary replied respectfully, then added, “I made it myself.”

These days, portable juicers are all the rage, and the secretary had a brilliant idea: she wanted to make some juice for the two of them. She experimented repeatedly with the combinations and proportions of fruits, and that's how she made these two glasses of juice. But unfortunately, not a single drop was left.

"Is that so?" Su Wenjin nodded, as if she had thought of something. "Very good."

This "very good" didn't seem like a mere formality, because the secretary saw approval in his eyes. If it weren't for the difference between men and women, he might have patted himself on the shoulder to show encouragement.

so……

The secretary had some concerns before, but now all of them have disappeared.

It seems she really did the right thing this time?

On the overpass, Ni Zhenzhen was caught in a dilemma, holding a chicken cutlet rice she had bought from a convenience store.

Yesterday, she specially rushed over from the branch during her lunch break to deliver food to the old lady, but the old lady was not like she expected. She not only wanted food, but also money.

She hadn't recovered from the shock when she got home late due to traffic, causing her colleagues to not eat dinner until very late.

Now, Ni Zhenzhen finally believes that the beggars on the street are all fake.

She should have thought of that sooner.

It wasn't too surprising, really. Xu Tianzhou had told her more than once that beggars were liars, but she refused to believe it, saying that Xu Tianzhou was too cold-hearted and lacked compassion.

Perhaps she should apologize to Xu Tianzhou.

Even though this incident turned Ni Zhenzhen's years of persistence into a joke, it wasn't a big deal upon closer examination. On her rare day off, Ni Zhenzhen didn't rest; she was either maintaining client relationships or reading books to study the business.

For some reason, the image of the old woman kneeling alone on the overpass kept appearing in her mind.

Just now, it suddenly occurred to her that even if the old lady asked her for money, it didn't necessarily mean she was a swindler. In today's society, you can't get by without money; perhaps the old lady was facing some difficulties and urgently needed the money.

Moreover, the way the old lady wolfed down the steamed buns didn't seem fake at all.

It's almost mealtime, will she go hungry?

Ni Zhenzhen was determined to get to the bottom of it.

The heated chicken cutlet rice was still scalding hot. Ni Zhenzhen carried the rice over and slowly squatted down in front of the old lady.

The sky outside was overcast, as if it were about to rain. People were coming and going on the overpass, and no one noticed what was happening here. Ni Zhenzhen was about to speak when she was suddenly attracted by a sound of footsteps.

Actually, it wasn't exactly quiet here. The loudspeakers of shops and the honking of cars were mixed together, and there was the occasional vibration from the passing subway. However, even so, that string of footsteps seemed to have a magical power, standing out in the chaotic world and suddenly grabbing Ni Zhenzhen's attention.

The footsteps grew closer and closer, finally stopping beside Ni Zhenzhen.

Ni Zhenzhen looked up and her heart suddenly clenched.

The man was wearing black leather shoes and a dark gray suit, with a cold and sharp profile.

It was Xu Tianzhou!

Why would he come?

Xu Tianzhou always said the beggar was a fake, and she didn't want to upset him, so she secretly bought food for the old lady. Ni Zhenzhen was still relieved that he hadn't found out about what happened yesterday, but now, he had caught her red-handed.

"you……"

Xu Tianzhou didn't look at her, as if he didn't recognize her.

He took out his phone, scanned the QR code in the aluminum basin, and heard a "beep" sound.

"I've transferred it to you." Xu Tianzhou showed his phone to the old lady.

With just one glance, the old lady was overjoyed, "Thank you..."

The old woman kept kowtowing to Xu Tianzhou, who looked down at her, put away his phone, and remained expressionless.

Seeing the old lady's distress, Ni Zhenzhen reached out to help her up. At the same time, Xu Tianzhou squatted down so that his line of sight was level with the old lady's.

"I'm from the catering company, my name is Xu Tianzhou." Xu Tianzhou said slowly and deliberately, his attitude was respectful and friendly, making it hard to associate him with the usual stern and cold person. "Our company wants to do charity, so we have specially prepared some grain and oil. Where do you live? We will deliver it to you."

"Great, great..." The old lady was overjoyed to hear that she was going to receive something. "Thank you, merciful Guanyin Bodhisattva, I've only been here two days and I've already met such kind people..."

The old lady muttered to herself as she got up from the ground.

Xu Tianzhou also stood up, his legs long and straight.

Ni Zhenzhen looked puzzled. She couldn't understand why Xu Tianzhou, who always scolded her for being too kind, would suddenly act out of character, not only giving money generously but also sending gifts to the old lady.

Ni Zhenzhen looked over and met Xu Tianzhou's particularly cold gaze. He neither avoided it nor intended to explain. He simply said indifferently as the old lady put on her bundle, "Let's go."
