Chapter 4
Chapter Summary: "Isn't this Su Wenjin?"
In the cramped rented room, Ni Zhenzhen bent down and gently stroked a spot with her hand.
That was Xu Tianzhou's newly bought suit, still carrying the warmth of that person.
Xu Tianzhou had good taste; the suit was exquisitely tailored and the fabric was crisp. Even under the old, dim lighting in the room, one could still see the subtle shimmer on the clothes.
Ni Zhenzhen liked it more and more the more she looked at it.
She secretly resolved to work hard, get promoted and receive a raise as soon as possible, so she could buy Xu Tianzhou more and better clothes.
After looking at it for a while, Ni Zhenzhen carefully put the suit into her pocket and hung it on the hanger, planning to take it to the dry cleaners when she had time.
As Ni Zhenzhen came out of the bedroom, she immediately saw Xu Tianzhou sitting on the sofa. He was sitting in a lazy and relaxed posture, with his arms across his chest and unconsciously using the remote control to prop up his chin.
The television was on, and the sound seemed to be from an interview program. The constantly changing light and shadows intertwined on his face, leaving only a solemn, luminous white.
Ni Zhenzhen's gaze casually swept across the television screen before being immediately drawn to it. "Isn't that Su Wenjin?"
"You know him?" Xu Tianzhou asked, slightly surprised.
"How could I not know? He's quite popular online. Many people say he's handsome. In Rong Xiaodan's words, from now on, all the male protagonists in CEO novels will have a face."
"Is that so?" Xu Tianzhou smiled meaningfully. "What do you think?"
Ni Zhenzhen knew it was a trap. She rushed over and pounced on Xu Tianzhou, pinching his nose and saying, "How about you, okay?"
Xu Tianzhou tossed the remote aside, focusing intently on holding Ni Zhenzhen in his arms, a silent smile curving his lips.
On television, Su Wenjin wore a dark gray suit with a striped tie, and no other accessories. Her dignified and reserved demeanor exuded an undeniable entrepreneurial spirit.
When faced with questions from the host, he spoke calmly and eloquently, from the prospects and significance of commercial spaceflight to the company's current preparations. Several of his witty remarks drew applause from the audience.
After listening for a while, Ni Zhenzhen exclaimed sincerely, "This Xinda Group is quite impressive. It is said that the company started as a transportation team composed of fellow villagers, but it grew bigger and bigger. In more than ten years, it went from highways to aviation, and now it is going to do commercial aerospace to expand its business into outer space. I have to say, it takes a lot of courage to take this step."
"Really?" Xu Tianzhou listened calmly, then gave a somewhat dismissive assessment, "So-so."
"Oh, right!" Ni Zhenzhen shouted as she broke free from Xu Tianzhou's embrace. A moment later, she grabbed a notebook and quickly wrote something on it.
What are you writing?
Xu Tianzhou peeked over and saw that Ni Zhenzhen's notebook contained sentences such as "Commercial aerospace is the starting point of new infrastructure", "Economic efficiency + large transport capacity is the key to breaking the deadlock", and "My favorite sentence is..." These were all things that Su Wenjin had just said.
Ni Zhenzhen explained, "A few days ago, our director said that as long as you do well, you will have the opportunity to go to the credit department or private bank. You might even get to deal with people from Cinda Group and maybe even meet Su Wenjin in person. I'm preparing in advance."
"Heh..." Xu Tianzhou scoffed and leaned back. Ni Zhenzhen was really stupid; the branch manager's words were just empty promises, and only she would believe such a clumsy lie.
Xu Tianzhou said, "It's not even close to being settled yet. Even if there is a cooperation with Xinda Group, you'll at most meet a department manager. Su Wenjin? I think you're wasting your time."
“I don’t think so.” Ni Zhenzhen said earnestly while writing furiously, “There’s never a bad thing to make more preparations. Even if you don’t need them, it’s still a kind of accumulation. Life is so long, who knows what will happen? If we wait until we meet Su Wenjin to start preparing, it will be too late.”
Xu Tianzhou scoffed again, whether he disagreed with her or thought she wouldn't see Su Wenjin.
Fine, let her do whatever she wants.
Xu Tianzhou changed the subject, "What are you bringing me tomorrow?"
"Huh?" Ni Zhenzhen realized he was talking about bringing lunch. Actually, she hadn't had time to prepare yet. Fortunately, she quickly recalled what she had in the refrigerator and tilted her head to ask, "Sticky rice lotus root, is that okay?"
"Alright then," Xu Tianzhou replied reluctantly, then got up and went back to his bedroom.
Ni Zhenzhen was secretly delighted. Xu Tianzhou was always stubborn but soft-hearted. It seemed that he was no longer angry about the rent increase.
The next morning, Su Wenjin arranged to meet Xu Tianzhou in the conference room on the 58th floor.
Not long ago, a cargo airline went bankrupt, and two of its cargo planes were put up for auction. The company has not yet reached a consensus on whether to take over the two cargo planes, and Su Wenjin is also undecided.
When Xu Tianzhou arrived at the conference room, Su Wenjin had not yet arrived.
He wasn't in a hurry; he sat leisurely at the conference table and took out his phone.
Ni Zhenzhen is off today. Right now, she is in their rented apartment, perhaps preparing lunch in the kitchen, or perhaps reading and studying at the dining table.
Just as Xu Tianzhou was about to send a message to Ni Zhenzhen, Su Wenjin arrived.
He walked briskly, his unbuttoned suit jacket fluttering with each step.
Su Wenjin was followed by his secretary, who was also jogging.
"Sorry I'm late." Su Wenjin apologized to Xu Tianzhou. "I was in a meeting with Lao Zhang and the others, so I was a little late, but thankfully we have a result."
As Su Wenjin spoke, she gestured to her secretary.
The secretary nodded immediately.
The secretary was wearing a chiffon blouse, a black pencil skirt, and pointed high heels.
The shoes were new, and the secretary wasn't used to wearing them. Su Wenjin was also walking too fast, and she was carrying a large stack of documents. She had just been jogging and almost fell several times.
The secretary placed a mountain of documents on the table, then opened the laptop on top.
Everything is done at top speed.
She was just about to connect the computer to the large screen behind her when Xu Tianzhou waved his hand.
The secretary was slightly taken aback and subconsciously looked at Su Wenjin.
Su Wenjin nodded to her, and the secretary immediately understood, put down her computer, and quietly left.
After the secretary left, Xu Tianzhou tossed his phone onto the conference table and said casually, "At this stage, we should prioritize stability."
Su Wenjin, who was about to report the meeting results to Xu Tianzhou, suddenly stopped.
The matter, which involved three departments and more than fifty people and had been discussed for over half a month, was finally settled.
Su Wenjin nodded. "I understand."
His purpose in coming here was to tell Xu Tianzhou that the conclusion of a meeting among several departments was that the two aircraft had unclear debts, excessively high maintenance costs, and a continued slump in the international cargo market, making it unsuitable to take them over at this stage.
Xu Tianzhou had already made up his mind, and since the result of the discussion was consistent with everyone else's, he didn't need to say anything more.
Su Wenjin should have expected this. Xu Tianzhou was decisive and had a keen business sense, but he was a low-key person and never wanted to show off in front of others.
Su Wenjin was still lost in thought when she suddenly heard Xu Tianzhou snort coldly.
"Don't let them write so much useless stuff in the future," Xu Tianzhou said with a hint of disdain, glancing at the beautifully bound documents.
Xinda is in the logistics business, not publishing.
I don't know when it started, but the analysis reports from several departments have become increasingly thick, and the PPTs have become increasingly elaborate, with a growing trend of competition among them. As soon as they say they're going to make an analysis report, regardless of whether it's useful or not, they just pile on all sorts of text and charts, while the truly useful content is only one or two pages.
"They should be made to pay for their own printing costs and see if they still waste paper."
Su Wenjin was amused by Xu Tianzhou's words, "They're doing this to please you. How else would they show they're taking things seriously if they didn't make it this thick?"
Xu Tianzhou gave a light snort, neither agreeing nor disagreeing.
"However..." Su Wenjin's smile faded, his expression turning serious. There was something he still needed to remind them of, "This auction is rather special. The parking fees for the two aircraft exceed ten million yuan, and the airports in both locations are suffering significant losses. They're desperately need this money to alleviate their financial difficulties. However, looking across the country, there aren't many companies that can take over. Therefore, the local government has high hopes for this auction and has even asked people to contact us. If we just refuse like this..."
Xu Tianzhou picked up his phone again; the little red dot on the screen was still there.
"Then send someone to take a look," Xu Tianzhou said absentmindedly.
"I see."
Xu Tianzhou's meaning was very clear: he definitely had to go, but whether he would buy anything was another matter.
The two talked about other things until Su Wenjin's secretary brought two lunches, at which point Xu Tianzhou realized it was lunchtime.
Unsurprisingly, Xu Tianzhou pulled out a palm-sized glass lunchbox from somewhere.
Su Wenjin curled her lips into a smile, her tone playful, "What good stuff is it this time?"
"Sticky rice lotus root," Xu Tianzhou said casually, then pointed to the glass lunchbox. "Would you like to try one?"
Su Wenjin hadn't eaten glutinous rice lotus root for a long time. He might have encountered it at a dinner party, but no one goes to such occasions just to eat. Even if he had eaten it, he wouldn't remember it. Besides, he has never liked sweets.
Su Wenjin couldn't explain what he was thinking at the time. Maybe it was out of curiosity, or maybe it was out of habit. Anyway, since Xu Tianzhou said so, he went along with it and tried a piece.
As soon as Su Wenjin put the glutinous rice lotus root in her mouth, she noticed that Ni Zhenzhen's glutinous rice lotus root was different from the ones sold outside. There was no osmanthus, only honey. It wasn't as sweet as she had imagined; it was just the right amount of sweet. Taking a bite felt like falling into a marshmallow—sweet, soft, and chewy, leaving a lingering fragrance on her lips and teeth. It was truly delicious.
Su Wenjin raised her hand again and suddenly noticed that the glass lunchbox that had been casually tossed aside was now held between Xu Tianzhou's arms, while the lunchbox that the secretary had brought was still in its original place.
Xu Tianzhou didn't touch the lunch filled with delicacies; instead, he focused on eating the glutinous rice lotus root prepared by Ni Zhenzhen.
Su Wenjin then realized that Xu Tianzhou's statement about letting him "try one" really meant just "try one".
"I really envy you." Su Wenjin put down her chopsticks and said half-jokingly, "To be honest, I'm thinking about getting married too."
Xu Tianzhou looked over and raised the corners of his mouth. This smile was very strange; it didn't seem like a polite response to being complimented, but rather like gloating.
Su Wenjin looked puzzled. "What are you laughing at?"
"You don't know, do you?" Xu Tianzhou's smile deepened. "Zhenzhen said you're really popular online. A lot of people say you're handsome. If you let that out, I don't know how many people would throw themselves at you."
Su Wenjin asked in surprise, "She knows me?"
"She not only knows, she even memorizes your preferences while watching TV, saying things like she might need you if she gets a job transfer." Xu Tianzhou shook his head and sighed softly, his tone full of helplessness, "I really don't know what to say..."
“Is that so…” Su Wenjin lowered her eyes, lost in thought.
