Chapter Sixty-Seven: Being Assigned a Mission

The cleaning lady glanced quickly at the clock on the wall; indeed, it would be nine o'clock in ten minutes.

Honestly, how can time fly by? She's only just started talking.

No, she has to hurry, otherwise she'll be so upset if she doesn't finish what she's saying.

She could have gone to chat with Mr. Wang, but ever since he discovered her peeping at him taking a bath last night, he has blocked her on WeChat.

Even the most thick-skinned cleaning lady wouldn't have the courage to approach her beloved, lest she be hurt a thousand times over.

The cleaning lady quickly took out her phone. "Officer Xu, I have something to show you."

Xu Moran continued to rub her forehead, "Auntie, I really have to go to work."

Listening to the cleaning lady gossip so early in the morning is such a waste of time. Xu Moran wanted to end this meaningless, pointless, and incredibly time-wasting conversation as soon as possible.

"Officer Xu." The cleaning lady, undeterred, insisted on placing her phone in front of Xu Moran. "Take a look at the young woman on this screen."

Xu Moran quickly glanced at the cleaning lady's phone and indeed saw a picture of a girl on her screen. However, the picture wasn't taken of a person, but rather of a photograph, so it wasn't very clear.

Moreover, the slightly yellowish color at the edges indicates that this is an old photograph.

"This is..." The cleaning lady had been talking about Sun Xingchao, and mentioned that she had no choice but to clean his office, so this photo must have been taken in Sun Xingchao's office.

Sure enough, when the cleaning lady saw Xu Moran take the initiative to ask her a question, her emotions became even more intense. "This is what happened when I was cleaning your Captain Sun's office. I accidentally knocked over a book that he had placed in his bookshelf. This photo is what floated out of the book. After seeing this photo, I realized that I had misunderstood your Captain Sun. It turns out that he is not gay, and he didn't let his private parts become a nuisance. He refused my introduction because he already has someone he likes."

"So, you took a picture of the girl in the photo so you could introduce a suitable one to our captain based on her appearance?" Xu Moran guessed.

The cleaning lady slapped her thigh and gave Xu Moran a thumbs up, saying, "Officer Xu, you're so smart!"

Xu Moran forced a smile. "Auntie, thank you for the compliment, but I really have to go to work now."

As he spoke, he picked up the mouse and opened the public security system homepage.

The cleaning lady, talking to herself, picked up Xu Moran's phone, took a picture of it, and said, "Officer Xu, save this photo on your phone. When it's convenient, could you help me find out about that girl's background, what she does, and what her parents do?"

Xu Moran reached for her phone, didn't even look at it, and put it directly into her pocket. With her eyes fixed on the computer, she said perfunctorily to the cleaning lady, "I know."

The cleaning lady repeatedly asked Xu Moran for help, saying that because her distant cousin's daughter had been obsessed with uniforms since childhood and would not marry anyone who wore a uniform, that was why she cared so much about Sun Xingchao.

There are many people in this world who wear uniforms, but few can catch the eye of her distant cousin's daughter.

Putting aside her own circumstances, she has very strict requirements for finding a partner, with many criteria in mind.

Wearing a uniform is the most basic requirement for entry.

The second condition is that they must be cadres; that is, she will not consider ordinary civil servants or soldiers.

The third condition is that the family must own a car and a house, and both parents must be deceased.

After hearing these criteria for choosing a spouse, especially the last one—that both parents were deceased—Xu Moran could only remain silent.

What if her parents are still alive? Does that mean she has to go back and strangle them to death before she can marry her?

A woman like that deserves to be unmarried at thirty-seven or thirty-eight.

Finally, it was time for work to begin. The other police officers entered the office one after another, and the cleaning lady walked away from Xu Moran with a somewhat embarrassed and reluctant expression.

After the cleaning lady left, Xu Moran picked up her water glass and took a sip of tea. As the warm water went down her throat, a suspicion popped into her mind: Could it be that she had unknowingly acquired an aura that attracted gossip, which was why the cleaning lady had been chattering on and on with her?

No, it needs to be changed.

She felt that the first thing she should do to stop attracting the cleaning lady to gossip about her was to delete the photos she took with her phone.

I had just opened the photo album, and before my finger could even touch a photo, the phone rang.

At this hour, the only person calling her would be Jiang Moli, no, now there's also Xu Ye.

Since it was a private call, I left my seat and went to the break room to listen.

As I swiped to answer the call and held it to my ear, I was prepared to hear Jiang Moli crying, but surprisingly, I didn't. Instead, a voice strained against my throat came through the receiver, "Hello, Ranran, are you at work?"

"I'm at work," Xu Moran sighed. "Lily, where are you? Why are you speaking so softly?"

She thought that Zheng Heping and his mother had bullied Jiang Moli again, making her afraid to even make phone calls from hiding.

"Ranran, is it convenient for you to talk now? There's something I'd like to ask you."

The voice Jiang Moli spoke to her was completely different from usual; the tension in her words made it seem as if she had done something wrong.

"You beat up Zheng Heping's mother?" Xu Moran made a bold, direct, yet unlikely guess.

On the other end of the phone, Jiang Moli lowered her voice and gently scolded Xu Moran, "Ranran, what are you saying? How could I possibly hit his mother?"
