"Safety, be careful!" Xiao Anhe quickly interrupted before Bian Wei could call out his name.
Bian Wei, a seasoned veteran, was adept at reading people's expressions. He guessed that Xiao Anhe was flirting with a girl, and his originally straight back suddenly became hunched over. Following Xiao Anhe's words, he quickly lowered his head and said, "Yes, yes, young man, you must be careful on the road. Walking with your arms around each other's waists like this is the safest way. If one of you falls, the other can help you up."
Xu Moran felt embarrassed to be teased like that by an old man with frilled hair. She pulled her hand away from Xu Ye's waist and whispered a reminder to him, "Be mindful of your behavior."
Xiao Anhe looked directly at Bian Wei, his eyes conveying a clear message: Are you here to cause trouble and make things worse?
Bian Wei pretended not to see the reproach in Xiao Anhe's eyes and walked with his back bent towards the direction where Xiao Anhe and Xu Moran were standing.
Just as Bian Wei walked to Xiao Anhe's side, suddenly, for reasons unknown, his body swayed and he fell directly to the ground.
Xiao Anhe reacted quickly, reaching out to catch him before he fell to the ground.
Just as Bian Wei regained his footing and Xiao Anhe was about to pull his hand away, Bian Wei grabbed Xiao Anhe's hand tightly and wouldn't let go, saying, "You bumped into me!"
Xu Moran saw it clearly and thought to himself, "There's a saying that's really true: it's not that there are no bad people anymore, but that bad people have all gotten old. And now that bad people have gotten old, they're all out there fighting for bus seats and staging accidents."
Bian Wei held Xiao Anhe's hand and asked him, "Tell me, what should we do? Should we settle this officially or privately?"
Before Xiao Anhe could speak, Xu Moran interjected, "What about settling it officially? What about settling it privately?"
Bian Wei continued to put on a professional elderly scam, saying, "If we go to court, we'll call the police and take me to the hospital for a full checkup. The cost of that checkup will definitely be high. As for a private settlement, that's much simpler. You just need to pay me back."
Xu Moran sneered, "Sir, I wonder how much money you'll have to pay before you're satisfied."
Bian Wei thought about it seriously for a moment and said, "Forget it, I'd better not say it. I'm afraid it will scare you to death if I do."
Xu Moran pretended to pat the dust off his hands. "You should just tell me. I'm not afraid of being scared, much less scared to death."
Bian Wei rolled his eyes at Xu Moran. "Why should I tell you? It's not like you hit me. I'm not telling you."
Xu Moran looked at Xu Ye and smiled, "But, sir, I'm his girlfriend, and all his money is with me. If you want to talk to him, I'm afraid he won't be able to give you a single penny."
Bian Wei was taken aback. He glanced at Xiao Anhe and then at Xu Moran, his expression revealing more than just a subtle change.
It hasn't been long since he last saw Xiao Anhe, so why is he acting like a completely different person, so obedient to this woman who isn't stunningly beautiful, at most just a pretty girl from a modest family?
"Alright," Bian Wei sighed, "Since the money is all with you, I'll name my price."
Xu Moran nodded, "Okay, sir, you go ahead and tell me."
While Xu Moran wasn't paying attention, Bian Wei quickly glanced at Xiao Anhe. He saw Xiao Anhe hold up one finger to him and say, "Ten thousand yuan."
Xu Moran chuckled, "Grandpa, I think you really are here to rob people." He paused and then said, "How about I let you crash into me? You don't have to pay me too much, just give me a thousand."
Bian Wei gritted his teeth, "I've never been good at math since I was a child, and now that I'm old, my math is even worse. I miscounted the zeros just now; I meant one thousand yuan."
After he finished speaking, as if afraid that Xu Moran would not believe him, he raised his hand and started counting on his ten fingers.
"Ones, tens, hundreds, thousands... No, no, I miscounted again, it's one, tens, hundreds, thousands..." He counted seriously, and his acting was also very convincing, but Xu Moran couldn't bear to watch anymore.
She interrupted him, "Stop counting, I'll give you a thousand yuan."
If it weren't for the fact that the person he was trying to scam was Xu Ye, Xu Moran would have insisted on arguing with him to the end and wouldn't have given him a single penny.
Xu Moran naturally didn't have a thousand yuan on her. The nearest bank was a block away. Xu Moran was worried about leaving Xu Ye and Bian Wei alone, fearing that when she came back, the thousand yuan would have turned into two thousand.
Xu Ye noticed Xu Moran's hesitation and reassured her, "Ranran, it's alright, don't worry."
Xu Moran glanced at Xu Ye again before running toward the bank across the street.
She was really running in order to get there and back quickly.
Bian Wei glanced at Xu Moran's retreating figure before lowering his voice to ask Xiao Anhe, "Anhe, have you been with her all this time?"
Xiao Anhe nodded. "Yes, I was stabbed by Qian Yue'e's men that day, and she was the one who took me back."
Too many things have happened in the Xiao family recently, and the changes are too great. Bian Wei has a lot to say to Xiao Anhe. After looking around, he suggested, "How about we go to that bookstore to talk?"
Right next to Xiao Anhe, there was a bookstore.
Xiao Anhe had no objection to this; he simply jokingly reminded Bian Wei, "When Ranran comes back later, have you thought about how to explain it?"
Bian Wei sighed, "An He, I'm getting old, and I've been around for so many years, I can easily fool a young girl. Didn't I just manage to get her away?"
Indeed, if Bian Wei hadn't been so quick-witted and used many of the old men's and women's disrespectful tactics to stage accidents, he probably wouldn't have had a chance to speak with Xiao Anhe this time.
At a table by the window in the bookstore, Xiao Anhe and Bian Wei sat facing each other, each with a cup of tea in front of them. It wasn't made from any good tea leaves; it was just the kind of tea bag.
