Chapter Sixty-Six: The Gossipy Sweeping Aunt

Following the arrest of the police chief of City B by the Discipline Inspection Commission, Grandpa Wang, who was known as "Uncle of Understanding," has now earned the title of "Expert in Fighting Corruption."

It should have been "Anti-corruption Expert," which would have been easier to pronounce, but since Grandpa Wang is already quite old, "Old Expert" would have been more appropriate.

The newly appointed police chief of City B was transferred from another place. He must have done his homework before taking office, especially regarding Grandpa Wang outside the door, whom he investigated very thoroughly.

Therefore, he was very polite to Grandpa Wang and never invited him to his office for tea or tried to persuade him to change his mode of transportation to and from get off work.

And Grandpa Wang never took a helicopter to work again. He stuck to his ways and continued to drive his family's most unassuming BMW X6.

As time went by, Grandpa Wang, who was once more popular than top-tier celebrities, gradually lost his fame and returned to the peaceful life that a gatekeeper should have.

The cleaning lady said a lot more about the gatekeeper, Grandpa Wang. Some of it was nice, like how he treated her to KFC yesterday; but some of it was bad, like how her courtship had failed again, and how Grandpa Wang used the excuse of not wanting a long-distance relationship to reject her this time.

The cleaning lady immediately objected, saying, "What do you mean by long-distance relationship? The two of them are clearly in the same city and work in the same place, so how can it be a long-distance relationship?"

Mr. Wang told the cleaning lady very seriously that his house was very big, and he was used to living alone at the garden end, while his bedroom was near the kitchen.

This is what Grandpa Wang meant by a long-distance relationship. The cleaning lady was completely speechless. If she didn't know that Grandpa Wang was a very honest person, she would definitely think he was bragging, even if someone's house was that big.

However, since these words came from the honest and upright Grandpa Wang, they are 100% credible.

"Sigh..." The cleaning lady sighed deeply, ending the topic about Grandpa Wang with a sentence filled with regret and hurt.

The sentence, filled with resentment and the flavor of a wronged woman, went like this: "It was my own fault for being so clueless. When I was pursuing Mr. Wang, I didn't take a good look at myself in the mirror first. With a face like mine that I only use five yuan worth of Dabao skincare products for, how could I possibly catch the eye of Mr. Wang who wears Armani perfume?"

This is a personal matter, and Xu Moran shouldn't interfere or ask questions based on any pretext.

She picked up the mouse, trying to subtly signal to the cleaning lady that she was about to start work even though it wasn't her turn yet, and that if the cleaning lady was sensible, she would leave soon.

Sigh, she overestimated the cleaning lady's awareness. When she saw her pick up the mouse, the cleaning lady actually looked at the clock on the wall and said, "Officer Xu, it's not time to start work yet."

The implication is that if you start work early, you won't get extra pay or bonuses, so you might as well chat with her instead of working for free.

Xu Moran took a deep breath, really wanting to say to the cleaning lady, "We are civil servants, not employees of a company. We don't have to worry about everything, just about wages and bonuses. Since we chose this profession, we are here to serve the people wholeheartedly."

She felt a little disgusted with herself, but ultimately didn't say it aloud, because in the time it took her to take a deep breath, the cleaning lady who had finished talking about the gatekeeper, Uncle Wang, started talking about Sun Xingchao.

Xu Moran had heard quite a bit of gossip from the cleaning lady, but this was the first time she had heard her mention Sun Xingchao. Putting aside the fact that Sun Xingchao was her captain, she was grateful to him for taking a chance on her half a year ago and transferring her from the traffic police to the criminal investigation team.

Therefore, she doesn't like to hear others gossip about Sun Xingchao.

The cleaning lady didn't notice the displeasure on Xu Moran's face; she was already spitting as she got into her gossip.

Xu Moran was worried that the cleaning lady's saliva would spray into her cup, so she not only put the lid on but also placed the cup on the other side of the computer.

As for herself, she slightly adjusted her posture to keep as far away from the cleaning lady as possible, so as not to get her face covered in spit.

"Officer Xu," the cleaning lady glanced at the door to make sure no one was coming in before continuing with Sun Xingchao, "Your Captain Sun looks to be in his thirties, but he's still not married and doesn't even have a girlfriend. Do you know why?"

Xu Moran felt a bit disgusted by the cleaning lady's shifty eyes and her attempts to keep Sun Xingchao a secret from her.

Since she was already emotionally offended, her tone was bound to be unpleasant. She replied to the cleaning lady in a harsh tone, "This is our team leader's private life, and we subordinates have no right to interfere!"

Logically speaking, after being confronted like that, the cleaning lady would surely be sensible enough not to continue gossiping about Sun Xingchao.

However, whether the cleaning lady was unenlightened or shameless, she didn't pay any attention to Xu Moran's tone and continued talking about herself.

"Last time, I introduced him to the daughter of my distant cousin. The girl was a little short and a little chubby, but he rejected me without even looking at her picture. As the saying goes, it's better to tear down ten temples than to break up one marriage. With the intention of doing a good deed, I introduced another girl to Captain Sun. That girl was very beautiful, except for her stutter. But Captain Sun was different. I even brought her to the lounge and asked him to take a look, but he refused. After these two times, I started to suspect that there was something wrong with Captain Sun."

Xu Moran was rendered speechless by the cleaning lady's endless chatter.

Since she couldn't get a word in edgewise, she chose to listen quietly.

"I suspected that your Captain Sun either had a physical or psychological problem," the cleaning lady said. "To find out exactly what was wrong with him, I devised a plan."
