Xia Youyou felt like her heart was about to burst out of her chest. What kind of eyes were those? Cold and indifferent. She felt frozen in place, not daring to move. The eyes glanced at her, then turned indifferently and walked towards the black market.
She moved stiffly, looking at the tall figure, thin, but as cold as ice, cold and lonely.
"Do you know him?"
The gatekeeper tapped her shoulder with his fingertips, waking her from her stiffness.
Xia Youyou looked at him blankly, "I don't know him."
"Stay away from him, he must not be a good person." Apart from this kid, who else would be dressed in black and wrapped tightly?
"Does he come here often?" Xia Youyou walked aside with him curiously and asked.
"No, I come occasionally. But I've been coming here regularly these past few days. I don't buy or sell anything."
Xia Youyou looked at the gatekeeper with suspicion. If he wasn't doing business, why was he coming to the black market?
Bidding farewell to the gatekeeper, she struggled to reenter the black market, carrying her backpack. As she entered the wide-open field of vision, she saw the man in black leaning against a corner. They quickly surrounded her, so she shifted her gaze back to where she had been and handed out food again.
She could feel that cold gaze looking at her, or more precisely, looking into her heart.
Xia Youyou looked up inadvertently and her eyes met his. The man was obviously taken aback, not expecting her to be so perceptive, and quickly looked away.
Xia Youyou sent the buyers away, and the baskets were empty. She wasn't going to sell any more today, so she told the others who hadn't bought any that she would come back tomorrow.
As she left the black market, she could clearly sense the man following her. Her heart began to beat violently, and her skinny hand touched her chest. She casually tilted her head and glanced behind her. A scrap of clothing in the corner made her even more certain that the man had followed her.
He quickly thought of a countermeasure and quietly took out the needle from the space and held it in his hand. If someone came over and gave him this needle, he would be courting death!
She deliberately chose a secluded road and walked to a deserted place.
"What are you following me for?"
The man in black didn't expect her to notice him, so he slipped out from the corner and stood behind her. "How much are you selling your food for?" His deep, rich voice was clear and melodious, like the sound of piano keys.
Uh? So he wants food?
Xia Youyou turned around and looked at the man in black who was as tall as Cao An. His thin figure made him look a little cold.
"15 cents. I just gave it to someone else for 14 cents. I'll give it to you at that price too."
"If you don't have money, do you want to buy small yellow croaker?"
Xia Youyou's already large eyes widened in shock. Such a good thing? Using small yellow croaker to buy food? She gradually calmed down and adjusted herself before speaking, "How much food do you want?"
"As many as you can get. It depends on how you sell it."
She laughed inwardly. How much do I have? The food in my space is enough to last me ten lifetimes. "Then how are you going to get it? Come home with me?"
The man in black thought for a moment and shook his head. "I'll wait for you here tonight. Just find someone to bring the food over."
"Is one hundred pounds enough? Also, how are you going to take it away after I move it in?"
"Don't worry about these. One hundred kilograms or two hundred kilograms will do."
"It's a bit far from here. Did you know there was a black market over there? Have you been there?" Xia Youyou saw him nod and said, "Let's go to the black market over there. My house is close to it, so it's easier for me to deliver. Is that okay?"
"Okay. I'll wait for you there at 9 o'clock in the evening." After saying that, he turned and left.
Xia Youyou was a little stunned. Was the deal done just like that? Looking at the alley where the man disappeared, she tilted her head in confusion, wondering why someone would trade small yellow croaker for food.
She slowly returned home. Her mother was already cooking. She quickly put down her backpack and went up to hug her. "Mom, guess how much money I made today?"
"Oh my, girl, you're really breaking my old bones!" Liu Hui slapped her hand that was hugging her and said, "Let go quickly, or the oil will splash on your hands."
Xia Youyou let go obediently and sat down in front of the stove to put wood in. "You can't imagine how much I sold today." And I can sell small yellow croaker tonight, just wait for my brother to come back.
"How much did you sell?" Liu Hui took a bowl and served the dish, which was Youyou's favorite goose eggs.
Xia Youyou looked at the goose eggs in the bowl and her mouth began to water. "Mom, let's go take some food to my brother. He must be hungry." Cao An panicked when he was hungry, and he felt uncomfortable if he didn't have enough to eat.
"Okay, then I'll cook another dish."
"I made 15 yuan from selling them today. I carried them on my back twice, so I still carried over 100 kilograms!" He rubbed his shoulders in frustration, "My shoulders are all red!"
"Mom doesn't care whether it's a lot or a little. I told you not to go, but there's no point in being a spoiled brat now!" Liu Hui walked over and imitated Cao An, rubbing her head. She also pulled open her clothes on her shoulders, and sure enough, a red spot appeared. "Mom will rub it for you later."
Xia Youyou smiled when she got the attention, "No need, I have my own medicine, it will be fine after just applying it!" She just wanted her mother's care.
Liu Hui was helpless and reached out to touch her forehead. "You clever little thing, you just want to make your mother feel bad, right?"
She raised her chin proudly and said nothing.
The mother and daughter finished their meal before going to deliver food to Cao An. Xia Youyou took her over there and saw that many people had already been cultivating the wasteland, and it seemed that their efficiency was quite good.
Xia Youyou stood on the ridge of the field and looked out, easily finding a touch of olive green that stood out in the crowd. She shook her hands vigorously, "Brother~"
Cao An was discussing land planning with the village Party secretary when he heard a familiar voice and turned around. He smiled when he saw the mother and daughter approaching with a basket.
He went up to her and asked, "Mom, sister, why are you here?"
"Your sister is worried that you're hungry, so she wants to bring you some food." Liu Hui smiled and nodded to the people behind him before continuing to say to Cao An, "She feels sorry for you and is worried that you won't have enough to eat here."
Cao An rubbed Xia Youyou's head as she was about to dodge, grabbed her with his big hand, and pinched her face again. "So good!"
Xia Youyou looked at him accusingly, unable to dodge! She raised her hands to cover her face, "You pinched me and hurt me!" She didn't have any flesh to begin with, and he was pinching her!
"I'm checking to see if you've eaten well and if you've gained weight."
"Alright, alright, come and eat. Stop bullying your sister, she's already grown up!" Liu Hui couldn't stand it any longer. She took out a piece of cloth, spread it on the field, laid out the dishes, and asked Cao An to sit down. "Your sister knows you like goose eggs too, so she didn't eat much herself and left them all for you!"
Cao An bent down in front of Xia Youyou, his hands on his knees, just enough to be at eye level with her. "Why are you so good? From now on, eat first, and I'll just eat whatever I want."
She raised her chin proudly, "You need to work. A full stomach won't be so tired!" Remembering she had something to tell him, she leaned close to his ear and glanced around mysteriously. "I met someone today who wanted to trade small yellow croaker for my food. We agreed to trade at the black market behind my house tonight. Come back early tonight and help me transport it."
