Even today's bustling, lavishly decorated luxury hotels, their dazzling brilliance exists only for them.
The surroundings became noisy again, but because I was far away, I couldn't hear clearly, nor did I intend to.
Many familiar faces were walking around, gathering in twos and threes with elegant manners, smiling and chatting intimately with each other.
"Isn't Mr. Yumi going?"
Hanging crookedly by her side, Hikari muttered to herself, "There are so many people here, maybe I'll run into someone I used to know."
I shook my head: "I'd better not show up at a time like this. Although my parents don't mind, who knows who among the people there might make a fuss about it."
"What about my old playmates? I remember them talking about it."
"It seems he didn't come."
"Don't you have a good relationship?"
"It's not a matter of good or bad, it's just that something happened."
"Hmm... Hikari doesn't understand. Didn't she save everyone? A kind person should be loved by many, right?"
"Who knows?"
The quietly flowing music gradually stopped, and in the increasingly tense atmosphere, the bell on the main stage was struck crisply. The well-dressed young man took a deep breath nervously, then instantly put on a bright smile, strode to the center of the stage, and drew the attention of all the guests: "Ladies and gentlemen, please pay attention."
"On this exciting day, Mr. Yuel, the heir to our Lovech Workshop, and the beautiful and kind Miss Leticia are about to step onto a new stage in their lives..."
"Although it's an engagement party, we're going to do our best to make sure it's not as bad as a formal wedding."
Qiao, who had entered the room at some unknown time, quietly crept over, his swirling glass filled with a strong liquor that exuded a fiery intensity despite its transparency.
Although he claimed to be a skilled worker who frequently shuttled between mechanical components and magical devices, getting covered in the indelible smell of smoke and tar, he looked quite presentable after changing into a slightly tight-fitting tuxedo—if one ignored the cuffs that were half-rolled up to his elbows.
He gulped down the strong liquor, his squinting beard revealing a hint of smugness: "Young Master, that's the kid I mentioned to you before. Although he didn't manage to get into the academy after graduating from the General Education Academy, he's still a clever and quick-witted child."
"I heard that in order to prepare for today's emcee segment, he didn't have much rest all day long after boarding the boat. Even when an accident occurred, he couldn't help but revise the script over and over again. Fortunately, he made it in time."
I was a little surprised: "What happened?"
Joe waved his hand: "It's nothing serious. It's just that the guys from the Prophecy Tower, trying to avoid the dragons' migration route, stopped on a slightly off-track path and spent about half a day there. Although it's become more frequent in recent years, it still happens quite often."
"Ha! Have a great day! I'm off to have a drink with my old buddies!"
He chuckled for a moment, then quickly shut his mouth before everyone's eyes turned to him. He clinked glasses with me and staggered toward a group of people in the distance who also looked rather ill-fitting.
The crowd in the distance seemed to make a commotion due to the unexpected event, but soon applause rang out again. The two who exchanged rings were surrounded by iridescent arcs of light under the dazzling crystal chandelier, as if they were encircled by a rainbow of blessings, forming a complete circle that was inseparable from each other.
"...It looks so beautiful."
I muttered to myself, letting the water glass cover the corner of my lips.
"Is Mr. Yumi envious?"
Her clear eyes looked on curiously once again, and the carefree little fool swung her feet lightly, just barely missing the ground, causing her sheer skirt to flutter back and forth.
It's hard to describe the feeling.
Thinking back, the last time I spent with my brother was before I started school. When I found him sweating profusely at the entrance of the dimly lit alley, I instantly felt at ease. Without even wiping my muddy hands clean, I stumbled towards him and was lovingly carried home.
Before we knew it, we had both grown up, and my brother had found someone to settle down with.
I tried to choose my words carefully: "I was just thinking that time really flies; in the blink of an eye, everyone has found their own place. I've never heard my family mention Miss Leticia, but she seems like a very nice person. I hope she and my brother can both be happy together..."
What am I saying?
My mind felt like it had short-circuited, or like it was about to catch fire. I didn't mean to say that, but the words that came out started to rearrange themselves into a jumbled mess.
At the center of the crowd, a nightingale's melody rose, followed by a faint orange magic that cast a hazy, warm light.
The magic, a blend of clear light gold and pure white, rose and fell like spreading wings, but unlike the fiery passion of what I had seen a few days ago, it was like a warm spring breeze brushing against a veil, or a kiss from a celestial messenger, carrying a sweet and light atmosphere.
After the cheerful tune, a melodious tune began to play again.
It was a waltz. The two, who were the focus of everyone's attention, walked hand in hand into the center of the empty dance floor and started dancing the opening dance amidst cheers from Swift and her friends.
The fluttering skirts brought the atmosphere to an even greater climax.
Everyone's face was radiant with warmth.
The father gently put his arm around the mother's shoulder and stood to the side of the stage. Even without being illuminated by the dazzling lights, his glistening tears still shimmered with the glow of happiness.
As Yuel emerged from the dance floor, he strolled around with Leticia, exchanging warm greetings and clinking glasses.
