Chapter 100 Blessing
...I feel dizzy.
Because I'm an adult, I'm allowed to drink alcohol. I hesitated a bit, but I still tried to drink a little.
Ordinary monks rarely drink alcohol. One explanation is that certain substances in alcohol can damage neurons in the brain, while another is that it makes it difficult for monks to concentrate and remain calm, thus causing them to become immersed in the turbulent tides of emotion.
Of course, there are also counterexamples: claiming that moderate drinking can help one concentrate better, inspire creativity, and amplify the power of spells, and even developing a discipline of spellcasting while intoxicated, causing some self-proclaimed orthodox academic mages to turn away in shame.
I naturally didn't pursue that strange subject; I neither avoided it nor actively tried it.
But today is a special day.
It's hard to describe how it feels.
The perfectly chilled, light flavor, the bubbles dancing on the tongue, the slightly sweet fruity aroma, yet a slightly astringent sourness, and the fragrance spreading in the mouth and stomach—it's not exactly bad, but it's far from what I consider to be the standard for a good drink.
It's hard to imagine why everyone is so addicted to it.
It felt like my esophagus was burning, and I almost choked when I took the first sip.
Anyway, it wasn't a good experience.
“Mr. Yumi, your face is very red right now.”
Hikari, sipping her apple juice from her glass, crept closer. Her voice lingered in the air, and it took a while to make out a single sentence: "This child originally wanted the same drink as me, but I insisted on switching it with her."
Why make a child who's already a bit silly drink alcohol? Even if he's an adult, it's not allowed.
However, to be honest, it was quite noisy around today, so it wasn't entirely because I couldn't hear clearly.
To shake off the rising drunkenness, I quickly grabbed a glass of cooled sweet iced tea, took a big gulp, and shook my head vigorously. Although the ends of my styled hair felt tight, at least my mind was much clearer.
Sweet drinks are still the best. Alcohol is too easy to get drunk on; I felt like my brain wasn't even mine just now.
But Princess Grey, who had just finished wishing her brother and new sister-in-law well and turned to leave... damn it, is that considered underage drinking? And why didn't her face turn red after drinking half a glass!
Perhaps I stared too hard, because Gray, who had turned around and was looking for a seat, approached like a real flame, her bright eyes darting around, and her blooming down fan instantly concealed her smiling face: "I didn't expect that senior would actually come, and even get drunk. This is truly an unexpected sight."
"It's my brother's engagement party, how could I not come? Besides, I wasn't drunk..."
I muttered a rebuttal in a low voice, then glanced at the wine glass in her hand: "Isn't she a minor? How can she drink like an adult?"
"It's better than an adult who collapses after just one dose!"
Grey smiled and swirled the amber liquid in her glass. She sat down beside her, slightly raising her glass to let the light from the crystal chandelier shine through the transparent glass and into her eyes: "This is the lowest alcohol content of the finest champagne, the kind that even a child can have a sip of. I specially had it transferred from the Chamber of Commerce to add to the festivities."
She paused, then added, "Besides, I just had my birthday last month. The time I bumped into my senior outside of school was when I was thinking of having a belated party with my friends."
When Ale invited me, he didn't mention this, let alone the others: "Should I also wish you a happy birthday and give you a gift?"
"No need~ We're not that close anyway. Just support my experiments more in the future."
...Thinking about that huge iron egg that cost a fortune still breaks my heart.
If the person in question hadn't been sitting right next to me, I probably wouldn't have been able to hold back from calling her a spendthrift woman.
But thinking about the little tool I saw yesterday, it's hard to say whether she'll actually be able to make anything out of it... No, in any case, she wasted a lot of very precious materials, that's an undeniable fact.
"Hoo hoo~ I feel like I came at the wrong time."
Lost in thought, Grey suddenly let out a strange laugh. As she stood up, the hem of her floor-length gown swayed like a fishtail, casting a dreamlike arc of red and orange light in the glow. She smiled and curtsied, then gracefully departed: "Senior, you can continue to indulge in your sweet embrace. I have other matters to attend to, so I'll be leaving now."
What did she mean?
He looked down and stared at the little silly girl nestled in his arms for a while. Seeing her bright eyes blinking and her little face flushed, she clearly didn't understand what had just happened. He could only take the wine that he had somehow gotten his hands on and pour her half a glass of ice water before gesturing for her to continue drinking.
I couldn't figure it out, so I simply stopped thinking about it.
Anyway, I'm not the main character today. Snuggling in this secluded corner where not many people notice me is just the kind of choice that suits my preferences.
However, it's been many years since I've spent time with my family like this.
My dear family members who gave me life, raised me, accompanied me, and watched me grow up, even after a long separation, showed no ill will towards me. They treated me with the same affection as before, their faces adorned with happy smiles that, for the foreseeable future, will continue to be happy.
And today, my brother, who is almost eight years older than me, will be entering into a contract that will bring him happiness in the future.
He and the beautiful woman standing beside him were the main characters of the day. Even though I had never been so intimate with anyone before, I could still clearly see the traces of their love, like water flowing and still visible, from their gestures and expressions.
