Chapter 123 The Roads Are Connected
The sudden change was confusing.
Turning my head in the direction of the sound, I saw a familiar figure standing close by, backlit by the light. The figure was leaning slightly forward, reaching out to gently brush his hair from his forehead, trying to check on me.
It's Hikari.
If I'm not mistaken, I've now returned to my own world from the game world constructed by [Simulated Law Ring].
Why did you suddenly come back?
Was the game automatically saved because I just stepped into the safe zone?
There were many perplexing issues, but the worry on Hikari's face was undeniable.
Shaking my still-drowsy head again, I cleared my throat and whispered to comfort her, "No, no, I just happened to wake up."
As I spoke, I tried to straighten up. But perhaps because I hadn't moved for too long, my body, sitting in the chair, felt like a rusty machine, making a sour creaking sound, and my legs felt slightly numb and sluggish because they had been pressed down by something.
Turning my head to look out the window, where the curtain was half-drawn, I saw that the distant horizon was already showing faint shades of pale pink and golden yellow, indicating that daylight had quietly arrived.
"Why are you up so early?"
I asked in confusion, standing up and slowly rotating my arms one by one to stretch my muscles and bones.
The blanket covering me slipped off as I got up, but I caught it just before it hit the ground and put it back on the bed. The cat that had been nestled on my lap before bed, and the hunting dog that had been sleeping peacefully at my feet, had all quietly left, probably off to find some fun somewhere else.
The white halo that I had been holding in my hands had shrunk to a silver-white ring, like a small bracelet or a cuff that secures a sleeve. It no longer exuded any spirituality or magic, nor did it display any special radiance or outward radiance. It looked quite ordinary.
I thought for a few seconds, then casually slipped it onto my sleeve and pulled it down halfway to cover it. At the same time, I heard Hikari, who was walking towards the door, reply: "Well, because I want to prepare breakfast for everyone, and also take care of those kids who are running around in our place."
"Without their help, it would be quite troublesome to move quickly through the mountains like that again, wouldn't it?"
Several horse neighs came from outside the window.
Pegasus strolled to the window and coquettishly echoed Hikari's words.
"Don't rush me, don't rush me! I'll come and take care of you right away!"
"Oh, right, Mr. Yumi. Now that you're awake, why don't you eat something first? You can go back to sleep later, since you're resting anyway."
Watching the girl's cheerful figure leave the room, I felt my mood calm down again.
Everything I had seen before was still etched deep in my mind, and it was hard to accept, but that was all.
That tragic ending is not for me now. Even though I have witnessed similar scenes many times in places unknown to outsiders, it only strengthens my resolve.
At the very least, we can't let those bastards who are still conducting chimera research cause the same consequences on this land.
Even by the standard of the weakest chimera, it would be enough to completely overturn this continent.
After pausing briefly, I decided not to leave the room immediately. Confirming that the defensive barrier inside was still functioning properly, I tried to draw a wisp of magic power from my overflowing body.
Imitating the feeling I had experienced in the [Simulated Magic Ring], I closed my eyes and began to manipulate the magic.
A gentle breeze arises from nowhere at my fingertips, swirling and circling, emitting a soft whistling sound and a crisp crackling when they collide. Like a swaying wind chime, like clashing blades.
It was a wind far gentler and more intense than anything I could unleash before. Though they were mutually exclusive, they were also harmoniously integrated, constantly changing and flowing, freely oscillating between two extremes according to my will.
"You've become more skilled..."
I put away the broken wind and simultaneously ignited flames.
The cluster of fireballs condensed into a single point, the orange-red flames barely flickering or overflowing, but rather tightly surrounding the core, like a smooth, round orange-red glass bead, yet constantly radiating subtle light and heat outwards.
Soon, with subtle adjustments to the distribution of magic, even these faint lights and heat began to converge into the core, causing the originally fiery red core to condense even more surging energy and radiate a bright light comparable to sunlight.
The fireball's outer shell became cold and hard, so that touching it with a fingertip would not cause a burn, while the inside became extremely bright, with active magic surging and colliding rapidly, condensing an even greater amount of energy inside.
However, it is not stable enough yet.
If the control over the magic contained within is relaxed even slightly, the condensed fireball will revert to a vibrant flame, and once again, the chaotic core caused by the intense collision will shatter into brilliant sparks the instant it crosses the extreme point.
"This could be a very good bomb."
I tried to hold it in my palm and squeeze it hard to burst it.
After a brief struggle, a dull explosion followed, accompanied by a wisp of smoke rising from the palm. Upon closer inspection, one could clearly see patches of dark red scorch marks on the exposed flesh.
That was the fireball that had just condensed, which penetrated the established defenses upon exploding, leaving behind the traces.
Considering its minimal to almost non-existent magic power consumption, it can already be considered a very good attack method.
There's not even a need for chanting. You just need to send your own magic into the other person's body, and before the connection is broken and the other person notices, quickly channel it to a vital spot and condense and detonate it to achieve a great effect.
