Chapter 141 The Demon [Mephisto]
Even though I had never seen anything like it before, the books I had read, the teachings I had received, and my intuition all told me its identity: a demon.
"That guy shouldn't be here."
A soft whisper sounded against my back.
It was Sheng's soft murmur.
Oh~ I think I hear the whispers of a bewildered deer, as if questioning my presence.
Singing ornate arias, a demon with a playful smile on his face gazed at us from afar. His crimson pupils were unlike those of an ordinary person, and when we looked at each other, it was as if we could see a blazing flame burning within them.
Yes, our adorable little deer guessed correctly. This isn't my territory, and there's no reason for me to intervene.
He paused, then flapped his wings at a speed too fast for the naked eye to follow, his narrowed eyes slightly upturned like a fox's, his gaze sweeping over everyone present through the gap.
But now that I know something interesting is happening here, how could I possibly let it slip through my fingers?
I noticed that his gaze fell on Jian Gui, Sheng, and then me in turn. I felt the clothes on my back being pulled tight and the clothes were slightly damp with sweat.
Avoiding the angry glare from the side, he stepped back to his original position and bowed respectfully.
Please don't be too hostile towards me. I am merely an uninvited witness, a guide leading you forward, not your adversary.
“But,” came Sheng’s firm yet trembling voice from behind, “the reason why this hidden dungeon is so difficult, and why we couldn’t open the path just now, isn’t it all because you’re here?”
The crimson pupils shifted back, the heavy pressure like a scorching, inextinguishable fire, followed by a tightening sensation from behind.
[It seems our little deer is a smart child~ And I, on the contrary, don't dislike such smart children; in fact, I like them very much.]
The demon chuckled and whispered.
Yes, you can see all the changes here as a result of my intervention, from those art forgeries to everything that happened afterward. Perhaps the many hardships you will experience can all be seen as trials I have given you.
But, you brave warriors who dare to challenge fate! Is this all the magnanimity you possess? Do you blame others for every little inconvenience, seeking only a false sense of peace?
The demon's eyes, scorched red, opened wide, revealing a furious blaze and an oppressive weight.
After waiting for so long, is all I've got in the end just a bunch of boring and uninteresting cowards?
The demon scanned each person present with his gaze.
A chilling feeling, as if they had been seen through, froze everyone in place.
[You, lovely Miss Fancy Mouse, I know you were originally just a gentle, clingy child who loved beautiful things. But why did you change and come here with them?]
[You, brave and loyal Mr. Bull, yes, you are happy to fulfill the requests others make of you, and willing to give your all for everything you can. Would you choose to retreat here again?]
【You, whew, I've never seen a kitten like this before, getting itself all bruised and battered trying to escape a spider web. Don't argue with me; I believe you know better than I do. Instead of that, patiently calm down and lick your wounds—that's what you need to do right now.】
As the demon spoke, he raised his slender fingers and snapped them elegantly. A shower of shimmering, bright green powder drifted down from mid-air, quickly seeping into everyone's bodies upon contact with their skin, giving them a warm, languid feeling.
I glanced at them sideways for a few seconds, and everyone's condition visibly recovered to good. The sluggishness from the long journey and the lingering effects of the previous shocks had largely dissipated. The sword demon, who was the most seriously injured, was breathing noticeably longer and slower, and he was tentatively clenching his fist to check his condition, clearly indicating that he was mostly recovered.
It was difficult to discern what kind of magical healing substance it was; only a refreshing and familiar fragrance lingered around the nose.
I tried to sense the flow of magic power within my body again. Although I had been trying my best to recover, I didn't expect that after that burst of green light descended, my magic power, which was only slightly more than half, had now almost fully recovered.
However, as we exchanged surprised glances, the devil's whispers and analysis continued.
Yes, and you too, our lovely little deer. I admire how you overcame past hardships and can still stand here so cheerfully. But a new challenge has begun. Will you choose to run away this time, instead of facing it head-on and overcoming it once again?
“I will get over it,” Sheng said softly, “provided you don’t interfere.”
I can only speak for myself, not for those guys. But I can promise that I'm just curious if this time there will be a flash of brilliance worth remembering forever, so I won't interfere in your trials until things get interesting enough, unless I'm called upon.
“Your words are contradictory,” I pointed out.
That depends on how you use it; I will not provide any further guidance in this regard.
He glanced at me briefly, then deliberately slid away as if he hadn't seen me. He then suppressed the illusory anger that was scorching everyone, gently clapped his hands to draw attention to himself, and then grandly spread his arms and wings behind him, showing us everything in the vast hall behind him.
